Today after our delicious buffet breakfast (again) feeling very bloated and content, we decided it may be a good idea to go for a bit of a walk. It was rather hilarious that whilst we were walking the streets of Frankfurt this morning, it was peak hour and all the Frankfurtians were travelling to work in their suits etc. Meanwhile here is craig in a T-shirt and Shorts (it was FREEEZING THIS MORNING) and Kellie was in a skirt and sandles. People gave us some funny looks. They must have thought we were from ICELAND or something and we found the Frankfurt weather warm!!! We are weirdos! We went for a long morning stroll and saw lots of the main business area of the city. We caught a few trams, and buses and now have ... read more

So, I have no time to write this since this computer keeps timing me out and the letters are all over the place, but here goes. Paris is amazing. Totally more than anything I was expecting. We are all totally exhausted from running all over the place, but so worth it. Weather has been fantastic, as are the crowds of Europeans on their spring breaks. Oh well, part of the experience I guess. Took a tour yesterday around the whole city and spent today at Versailles wabdering around the amazing gardens. Can kinda understand the whole revolution actually based on the extrvagance we saw, but its fun for the tourists. Tomorrow we go the Louvre, for a quickie tour around and on Thursday, we head off to Mont St Michel, then Italy. Hope all is well ... read more

Hello again! It’s just us, reporting to you live, from the other side of the planet. Happy Easter to you all - hope you had a great long weekend & got the chance to chow down on some chocolate eggs, or perhaps you even had a BBQ. Mmmmm……..BBQ’s!! ANYWAY, we arrived home safely from Ireland late last night. I really enjoyed the trip, & I think Vaughan kind of enjoyed himself, but not as much as he had expected unfortunately. However, the weather couldn’t have been more brilliant & it was well worth the visit to the land of leprechauns. Here’s what we got up to: Day 1 - We left the house really early (6am) to make the trek north in the car, up near Manchester & Liverpool, through Northern Wales, & over to Holyhead ... read more

Wednesday, April 4, 2007 I didn’t really have any plans for us for Wednesday morning, so we decided to try to do some shopping. We walked through the shop area, Travis bought his belt and sweatshirt, Mom bought her shirt, and Dad, well Dad walked along. We wondered up into the shopping area of the Albaycin and Dad bought a cool little cut out coin there from this guy. Well, then we headed toward Monica’s mom’s house where we were having lunch. She made chicken and vegetable paella. After lunch we sat around and talked some, Manolo (Eva’s husband) and I translated the best we could. I have a much harder time understanding Monica’s parents than I do her though! Well, Travis and I sat down at the couch and started to play connect four. However, ... read more

I left Corfu on saturday the 7th of april for the peloponese city of Patras. As i carfully stepped over borken peices of pottery, which had been hurled from windows as part of the easter celebrations, and doged the horeds of people and fire works that were randomly being set off, I considered trying to stay on the island for a bit longer. But I had already booked passage on on a ferry that would sail for 8 hours to the main land, and besides i had spent almost a week on the Island and I was getting a little to comfortable there. I took those all as sgins that it was time to move on. As I sat starring out the window on the ferry i started wondering what I was going to do ... read more

This morning was great... I went to a midday briefing at the European Commission (European Union). It was amazing to actually be in that room with all the other journos from around the world... especially considering so many people working at home will never get to do it. I picked up a great story about Europes inacceptably bad policing of the fisheries industries. It really was very cool to be doing an interview at the European Commission. (The online component of my Tour de Flanders story, by the way, can be read at http://www.euaustralia.com/2007/04/10/sport-bike-season-heralds-the-summer/#more-529). After the briefing we had lunch in the fabulous cafe inside the EU Commission building.... great food and really cheap - they really look after journalists in Europe and Ive noticed this a LOT so far doing various stories in Germany and ... read more

Its as easy as ABC.. Thats right Another Bloody Castle! Once you seen one castle you seen em all! haha no not really, every castle is that little bit different and all have their own special features.. Not sure what Dublin Castles are though, this was a rather boring castle I must admit, very big as many people lived inside its walls at one time but yeh not much to see.. I've seen better castles! From Dublin Castle I went off the City Hall which houses an exhibition about the history of the city, this didnt thrill me either or maybe I just really wasnt in a "tourist" mood today.. After City Hall wondered down to the Museum of Archealogy and History.. and yes this bored me too! haha must have been the mood I was ... read more

Europe » Spain April 10th 2007

Greetings from in-transit Danielle. I’ve just embarked on my first long-distance train trip in Spain. I’m on my way to Barcelona from Bilbao on a 9-hour journey to spend my Easter vacation. I usually take the plane for convenience purposes as it only takes an hour and costs a mere 30 euro more, but I thought that this time it might be nice to see some of the country side between the Basque country and Catalonia. Anywho, I’ve taken short distance train trips before, no more than 2 hours. The trains that are usually provided for such distances somewhat resemble a city bus, standing room and hard plastic benches. The train that I am is well-equipped for long distance travel all the way down to reclining seats. The only thing is that it looks like ... read more

Eric Coutu has had a rough week, one of the most ‘unlucky’ weeks I have ever seen. (Eric is the history professor from Quebec who took me on a tour of Rouen when I first arrived. He pitches and plays shortstop, he also coaches the Cadet--15 year old--team at Bois-Guillaume. He is also the one in the picture in a previous blog with a balloon on his head.) Last Sunday on his way home from our game he rear-ended another car at a traffic circle. Then on Tuesday he went to the emergency room because of severe stomach pains (he has been having intestinal problems for a while). Then Wednesday at practice he was hit with a ball at first base; the ball hit a rock, came up and popped him in the face. He was knocked ... read more

Way up north now in Ireland and is fantastic. The scenery is great and of course the people and pus are still the same as before, just brilliant! Left Belfast a couple of days ago after spending 5 nights there properly to long in one place but such a fun city now compared to the recent history of Belfast and the whole Northern Ireland. Everywhere I went there is reminders of the troubles of the past that was only 10 years ago some off it but is real peaceful now. On the Easter Sunday over here they have a parade in Belfast and I thought oh great a Easter parade maybe I could get a egg or two but instead it was a remembrance day for the Easter uprising that happened in Dubin in 1916 and ... read more
