3.45am Good Friday morning was the start of our first trip out of London. Talk about getting the most out of your day :) We had to be at the airport bright and early (obviously), us and about 20 million other Londoners who were getting the hell out of London in search of sunshine (amusing considering London experienced beautiful weather over the break). Our first experience with check-in & security at Gatwick airport was that they were very thorough - I didn't even set off any alarms and I still had to take half my clothes off and get patted down! And I've never had my photo taken so many time between getting to the airport and getting on the plane. So after HOURS of security and crowds and god knows what else, Adam and I ... read more

Naar jeg faar loget meg paa en annen maskin en dag, skal jeg fortelle litt om England. Det er saaaa mye aa si, assa. Neida. Men jeg skal legge ut bilder. Fikk 12 timer i London, gitt. Og nauet ikke med det minste av serverdigheter. Saaklart. Buckingham palace, Big Ben, en pub her og en pub der. Atter en pub og litt av ditt og datt. Fikk med meg det meste, kan du si. Spennende, eller? You bet'cha... read more

Although we were happy to spend another week stuffing ourselves with tapas underneath the orange blossoms in Seville, there was more Andalucian glory to explore a short day trip train ride away in Cordoba. Both Seville and Cordoba are overrun with tourists, however Seville somehow carries it off with class whereas Cordoba felt a little claustrophobic and a little cheap. Maybe it's because the old town in Cordoba is not as big as Seville's. The old town in Seville is also better laid out and more spacious - particularly the area around the cathedral. Yet the Cordoba cathedral is a marvel in itself. Lots and lots and lots of pretty arches. In case you feel that we have skimped on the arch photos, there are plenty more to send if you are an arch-itectural geek ... read more
Yep, there are a lot of arches here
Did I mention that Cordoba is famous for the arches in its cathedral

Arriving into the Napoli train station around noon was the start of our southern Italy adventure. We had previously made the decision to pass Pompeii and go straight to Sorrento on a very, very “ghetto” local train. However once we passed out of the direct Napoli area and closer into the Sorrento Coast the views became more pleasant. As the train was nearly at its destination Joye and I decided to have a little pull up contest that turned into hanging from our legs inside the train, while being stared out by the locals that still remained on the train. The first thing on our minds was the beach, but Bailey who as been in Sorrento before explained the beach was a hike away. So, instead we found the tourist information place and ate some ... read more

Here are some pictures from Easter weekend in Liepaja, in the West of Latvia. We were staying with Lelde's family on a farm in the countryside. It was pretty cold-it snowed a bit on Easter day. In Latvia, it is a tradition on Lieldiena(Lit. Big Day) to colour eggs by wrapping them in muslin parcels and adding leaves, flowers and anything else, then boiling them in water with lots of onion skins- nice results this year. We also played a lot of Novus, a traditional Latvian game with a sqaure wooden table with a circular whole in each corner. It 's a bit like snooker/billiards, as the aim is to get your coloured wooden discs into the holes by striking them with the main, larger piece called the govs( pronounced gooavs and meaning cow). ... read more

I'm typing this all after the trip was done, so my memory is shaky at best. Plus my laptop died in which I already had a nice long entry already written out. Ah well. It has been a few years since I've wandered around Norway, and this nation is still amazing. After a long flight in, I finally landed in the outskirts of Stavanger to spend the night. Sadly I never did get any time to venture forth into the city, and the crappy weather made for very little pictures. Typical countryside though I saw which reminded me of home. The highlights though were finally, after 2 long years, grabbing some melkesjokolade (milk chocolate bar) at a local store. Ahhh how I missed chowing down on all the foreign treats I used to gobble up ... read more

After being in Europe for 2.5 years Barrie still hadn’t been to Rome. So for Easter 2007 we thought we’d spend this Christian holiday in the most Christian of Christian cities, Rome. We arrived on Good Thursday night and shared a cab into town with a nice French couple who could thankfully speak a little Italian. Our hostel turned out to be Mamma’s house. A large apartment where Mamma, Pappa, daughter and granddaughters lived in the centre of Roma. It was charming. Contrary to what you might think, everything is open on Good Friday in Roma, except St Peter’s. So first stop, the Vatican Museum. A few hours later after being Moo’ed through the amazing artworks, gardens and architecture, we emerged impressed and hungry. We found a cute little alfresco pizza place down a pretty deserted ... read more

am in a random town at the moment in the middle (literally) of russia.... quite amusing as have jus been let loose off the train today - have been on it for the last x2 nights - slightly longer train journeys here than the usual west norwood to victoria!! quite refreshing to be off!! it's been like a constant 20degrees on the train!! ergh!! we're only here for one night - staying on a BOAT - random!! it's all moored up and everything - but fun huh? it's cheap and cheerful... we've got an amazing view across the river from our cabin (making our way through every type of travel) - quite stunning!! looks like we're in canada or something, as there are mountains surrounding the town!! so much for the cold / snowy weather ... read more

Class was cancelled tonight! Our design professor is sick so we didn’t have class! I spent the afternoon in the studio getting some work done though - Professor Griffen (my design prof. from last semester) is visiting tomorrow. It will be interesting to get a different perspective on the project from him. This morning in class, we went out to the EUR. That’s where the World’s Fair of 1942 would have been, had there not been a war. We learned all about the fascist architecture. It’s actually really interesting. Like I’ve said - I feel like I’ve learned more in this one class, then I have in 2 years of history classes at Philadelphia Univerisity. That’s sort of sad… I don’t really have that many more plans for trips while I’m here, so I’ve decided that ... read more
