So, finally I'm almost caught up! On Saturday I didn't do too much...typed up in Microsoft Word the TravelBlogs that I posted through Wednesday...They're easy to just copy and paste! lol However, I knew that there was only one procession in the city on Saturday and is was supposed to go right down the road where my friend's apartment is, so I called Mett and asked him if Laura and I could come watch the procession, hang out, and use his internet! The procession came down the hill from the Alhambra....which as my family knows, is quite a workout. So we knew it'd be cool. He said we could, so we went and watched the procession fromt the small deck outside his window. It was a great spot to watch it from! We then went ... read more

Hey everyone!! Sorry if this e-mail is brief or vague but i just responded to my e-mails in my inbox after not checking for a week (so if you wanted more detail blame Sophie as she had sent me 3 e-mails!!!). So anyway when i last left the post i had just spent some time in Colchester with my Aunt and Mum and had travelled down to Mersea for some really nice seafood (I had a big bowl of mussels!!) and a walk around (where there was sand Daniel ... Europe » Portugal » Central » Coimbra April 10th 2007

In fact, I think Coimbra's got SF beat with its hills. One of these days I'll be able to upload photos and you'll see what I mean. The University campus is on top of the major central hill. Portugal has a saying, "Lisbon shows off, Braga prays, Coimbra studies and Porto works." You gotta want to go to school to walk up there everyday. The BIG SURPRISE of the whole trip (I knew Coimbra was going to be special, but I didn't know how) was on the campus, a library that was built in 1717, especially to preserve books for many years. Its 7-foot thick walls and teak doors maintain the temperature, the teak also helps with the humidity. The oak shelves emit an oder that deters worms from growing, and the resident family of twenty ... read more

Det ... read more

I just traveled to Venice, Budapest, and Prague- all three major cities but incredibly different. Venice was beautiful and quite, but the people, like the Italians in Rome, were just not friendly at all. I appreciated the view and the atmosphere at night when things had died down. But after a few days, I was ready to leave. Budapest was amazing. In Rome and Venice, I missed Copenhagen so much. I missed the toilet seats, the people, the atmosphere and welcoming environment. But in Budapest, I was just happy. We had four days in Budapest and spent a couple going to tourists sites- a Van Gogh exhibit in Statue Park and some churches there as well. It had far less people than Rome and, as a result, the people did not detract at all from ... read more

Well as you will see from my intro i'm just about to set off on a round the world trip. Originally the trip was for 12 months, but hey life changes and I'm now going to cram it into 4.5mths. One good thing about it though, means I don't have to work at all on the trip. So first stop Bangkok. I'd be lying to you peeps if I told you I wasn't absolutely terrified, don't get me wrong, I'm excited as hell too, but you see I've been planing this trip for almost 12 months and then 3 weeks ago my life changed and I'm now travelling alone, which wasn't part of the plan. Hey I'm a big girl now, (no matter what you say Dad) and I can do this on my own. So ... read more

Urazili jsme přes 1200km. Měli jsme trochu obavy, abychom stihli dorazit do 21h do rezervovaného hotelu Formula1, cca 50km přes Avignonem, ale v pořádku jsme to zvládli a ubytovali se kolem 20:30.... read more

My trip across the border Europe » United Kingdom » England » London » Central By bsmurf77April 10th 2007UntitledBrian Murphy Following a very long and horrendous bus ride, I arrived in London, England. Unfortunately, National Express overbooked the bus, and they were forced to call in another bus. We therefore left Edinburgh an 1 hr late, and arrived and 1hr 30min late. Still, it was better getting in at 8am than at 6:45am. The main problem was t... read more

Pictures- http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/558471847GVcNTK Camden Town Market (LOVE IT!!!) Punk + alternative + individuality = Camden Camden has a very strong influence on London fashion. Compared to the US, Londoner’s are more experimental and unique with their own style. Of course, the current trends are obvious and everyone has the latest look, but people like to take more risks. Imagine…. A girl walking down the street with large hot pink platform boots, fishnet tights, a lime green pleather dress, and spikes around her neck….. I swear, not one person gave a second look. Now this look is not the norm, but it shows how individuality is encouraged here in London. With that said, Camden drives this individuality. Its large outdoor/indoor market, open everyday from 11 am to 7 pm, sells everything from preppy sweaters to gothic corsets. The ... read more

So after a good night's rest, we took advantage of the free breakfast and decided to head towards the Barcelona Cathedral. After consulting our maps a few times, we made it to the Barcelona Cathedral, which was also under construction, but very cool. We went inside and it was huge! There was a really big area for the choir to sit in as you walk in with a really big pipe organ. Along both sides of the church were big shrines to saints where you could go and light candles. There was also a room solely devoted to prayer. In the front of the church was a giant altar and below the altar was the crypt of Barcelona's patron saint. After leaving the cathedral, we made our way to the Basilica, which was another big church, ... read more
