Day 10 God bless the Anantara Lawana and their breakfast spreads. We go to bed at night talking about what comes first in the morning, breakfast or a shower? Breakfast wins every time. Its just so good. Like Christmas morning, we shuffle down to our luxurious beachfront breakfast buffet with absolute excitement. We have now become a bit of a joke to the morning breakfast staff, because first thing we do is order at least 4 drinks.... A water, a juice, an iced cappuccino, and a tea (sometimes hot, sometimes cold). We love our beverages. We sat and enjoyed our lovely meal while cracking up over our wild night last night. If only we had a picture of us on the back of this Brazilian guy's scooter. Too good. We talked about whether or not we ... read more

Day 9 The Anatara Lawan resort provided the most spectacular breakfast spread one could ask for... Smoked salmon, waffles, banana pancakes, eggs florentine, a variety of delicious cheeses, juices, smoothies, and more... All of this overlooking a turquoise tinted ocean. It was a little slice of heaven and this is how we started our day. After eating everything we could, we went for a long walk into town for some light shopping and a foot massage. It was starting to get really hot outside, so we knew we had to get to the ocean to cool down. We ventured down the shore and stumbled across a beachfront hotel called "Akbar" where we rented an umbrella, bought a piña colada, and played in the ocean. We were making right decisions. After hanging out with what kemper thought ... read more

Day 8 Eager to get to the gulf side of Thailand we booked a 9am flight from Phuket to Ko Samui. After a fab night of sleep at Karens place we woke up early to head to the airport. Karen offered to give us a lift so we planned to leave round 7:30am to get to the airport with enough time to spare. Around 7:15am there was no sign of karen. Her door was shut and no sign of life yet. Knowing that she had just traveled home from a long trip to the states, we assumed she was still sleeping. Oh god, what to do? Now, we just met karen and were not 100% comfortable waking her up but we didnt want to miss our flight. So we knocked on her door. Nothing. Kemper knocked ... read more

Geo: 9.499, 100.005We have spent 5 days on the island, the largest on the south east coast of Thailand. It is only 100km around, but varies from Malia esque strips to tranquil deserted beaches. After the over night train and ferry, we arrived on our little isle or paradise at approx lunch time and were taken to Monkey Samui, a Hostel near Choengmon, on the nothern peninsula. From the website, it looked awesome, with a pool, private rooms available to upgrade to and a shuttle bus to the town every hr. This was a stretch of the truth and when we arrived (having already requested an upgrade as we were here for 5 days) the room still had bunk beds in, with no plug sockets and a main light that wasn't working. The pool.... i wouldn't ... read more

Our trip on the boat was simple and not too traumatic, which made a nice change. On arrival at Samui, we had the usual tuk tuk arguments until we got a half decent price to the hotel. We were staying in Chaweng, which is the major beach resort and ex pat teratory in Ko Samui. We arrived early again and headed out for the day. The beach area of Chaweng is somewhat reminiscent of any european beach resort! he beach is packed with loungers, fancy resort hotels, jet skis and banana boats, as well as people selling all manor of bits and pieces. Behind the beach there is a long road full of shops selling tat, many pubs and bars and restaurants selling largely western food! Nearly everyone you meet here is European. On the evenings ... read more

So the adventure begins... Today is our 4th day in Thailand. We had a bit of a delayed start to the trip, resulting in a 5 hour stop over in Hong Kong, meaning that we then only managed to spend 3 hours in our hostel in Bangkok before having to leave at 4:30am to catch our next flight down to Koh Samui. Koh Samui is gorgeous! The weather, although it has been slightly overcast, has been very hot, meaning that both me and Laura managed to get a bit burnt on the first day. We seem to have managed to book into an amazing hotel which has its own beach and 2 pools (not exactly the travelling lifestyle!!) but it has enabled us to settle into the time zone and the heat in style! The first ... read more

We finally arrived in Bangkok after a long journey from Jordan. We were met at the airport by our guides as we had 6 hours before we were flying down to Koh Samui. We went to see the Temple of the Golden Buddha, The Temple of the Reclining Buddha and were given a lot of information about the history of the places. Unfortunately tiredness got the better of me and the information simply went in one ear and out of the other. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to do what the boys did and fall asleep as soon as we got in the car to move onto the next point of interest and to say my enthusiasm was wavering would be an understatement. The final stop we made was to a Gem Gallery and this was pretty ... read more

Sophie continued to travel with us as we made our way to Ko Samui. For the first couple of night we stayed in a quieter area called Big Buddah Beach (no buddah in sight!) Here we had nice clean bungalows and a lovely pool to ourselves. We spent most of these two days messing about in the pool with brief excursions to the beach but it was nice doing nothing for a couple of days. We did have a really nice meal out one day and I tried a Catfish Red Curry which was delicious!!! After this we moved to Lamai and stayed at New Hut Bungalows, right on the beach. These were a lot more basic but it was lovely walking out on the golden sand every morning! We spent our first day in the ... read more

Finally arrived at my beach resort on the Thai island of Koh Samui. Did absolutely nothing yesterday. Full day of sweaty tomb raiding on Saturday did me in so I spent the whole day relaxing, swimming, tanning and I guess preparing for 3 full days of beach bumming haha Got up early this morning for my ride to the airport and my flight to Samui through Bangkok. No problems although it was all one flight # on Bangkok airways and the first part was delayed a half hour. So I get to Bangkok and have to get off to go through immigration. I go off and do so and nearly miss the flight! Second last person on the bus to the remote stand and off we go again. Bangkok airways is great two one hour flights ... read more

Koh Samui We arrived in Koh Samui off Nok Air. For those how have not visited these islands, there are 3: Koh Samui: largest island and well established as the most popular tourist destination of the 3. It’s a 30 minute ferry ride to Koh Phangan and 2 hours to Koh Tao. Chaweng Beach is the the busiest and has a beautiful beach with greast nightlife for all. Other beaches we have visited and our thoughts: Choeng Mon Beach is quiet and beautiful. Lamai, we enjoyed watching the girls arrive at work every evening. Bophut, nice village but 5 star resorts dominate the best end of the beach. Koh Phangan: Known for its Full Moon Parties every month, it swells during this time by 10,000-30,000 party revellers. It has many beaches and offers real beach front ... read more
