We left Patong at 9 am with our driver Chai in his comfortable car and had an easy 4 hour drive through beautiful unspoilt countryside to Don Sak where we caught the ferry ( £3) to Koh Samui and then toom a taxi ( £12) for te 40 minute ride to our hotel which thank goodness is really nice! we only booked for the 2 of us so sorting out elisa was a bit of a problem and we had to change rooms to fit her in with us...so much for romance!... read more

Moving off from Nakhon Sri, and onto what ought to be the highlight of this leg of my Thai escapade - the beautiful Gulf island of Koh Samui. I'd first heard about this place over 10 years ago, when a good friend of mine raved about it after having been there for a holiday with his navy chums. He described the island as Paradise on earth, so needless to say, after over a decade of anticipation, my expectations were high. And I'm glad to report that, while Paradise is a strong word to use, Samui ultimately didn't disappoint. Staying at the busy Chaweng area at the Kluaymay Guesthouse, my first impressions of the beach itself were inevitably in comparison to that of the other beach resort I'd just came from, namely Cenang in Langkawi. In that ... read more

My Bangkok Airways flight from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui was pleasant and included a tasty lunch. However, my introduction to Koh Samui was not ideal. For the first time on my trip it was raining, and the airport transfer taxi dropped me nowhere near my accommodation, (he assured me it was only a short walk but after asking directions, it turned out to be about half a mile). Then, when I ventured out onto the main street in Chaweng (Koh Samui's biggest resort), I was confronted with something similar to Bangkok's Khao San Road, except it is not pedestrianised, so in addition to the hassle from suit salesmen and massage parlours, there are also taxi drivers who constantly beep their horns as they drive past, as if they're driving the only taxi you're going to ... read more

Arrived in Koh Samui and got a taxi from the pier to the hostel, we shared a taxi with James and Sarah but whey werheading to to a nice posh hotel called url=http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g293918-d1604105-Reviews-Mimosa_Resort_Spa-Koh_Samui_Surat_Thani_Province.htmlMimosa as they were meeting Sarah's parents there as they are in the south of Thialand for a few weeks. The taxi was around 800bhat and had to go past theirs first before going on to the area we are staying, Bo Phut, which is where we had decided to stay for the first night, before gloving down to a hotel in Lamai. Our hostel was called url=http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g293918-d2303622-Reviews-Monkey_Samui_Hostel-Koh_Samui_Surat_Thani_Province.htmlMonkey Samui and it was actually a fair old drive from where we docked.

The last few days have been quite interesting since we arrived into Koh Samui. We should have sent one of those floaty boats into the sea back in Phuket to send our bad luck away because the island along with 2 closer islands have had no electricity for the past 3 nights. Supposedly there was a major short circuit with the power line that connects mainland Thailand to the islands and this is not an easy fix because the main line is under water, deep in the sea bed. To make matters worse this is the part of our trip where we decided to stay in a hut like room that has its bathroom outside with nature staring on intensively. Shower is also out in the open so cleaning yourself at night in the dark is ... read more

What's going on people, sorry we have fallen a bit behind on our blog due to traveling from place to place and not being able to access internet so will be publishing a few blogs in the next few days to get everyone up to speed. After the group we met in Koh Tao we were recommended a specific hostel in Koh Samui, that was a bit out of the way from the hussle and bussle of Chaweng beach, the hostel was called The Lounge. We found it very chilled out, maybe a bit too chilled out but we were so tired that we just wanted a smoke, tele, common room and a proper bed. Anyway we did venture out that night just for food and some beers which (the food) was so cheap roughly 1 ... read more

Day 10 God bless the Anantara Lawana and their breakfast spreads. We go to bed at night talking about what comes first in the morning, breakfast or a shower? Breakfast wins every time. Its just so good. Like Christmas morning, we shuffle down to our luxurious beachfront breakfast buffet with absolute excitement. We have now become a bit of a joke to the morning breakfast staff, because first thing we do is order at least 4 drinks.... A water, a juice, an iced cappuccino, and a tea (sometimes hot, sometimes cold). We love our beverages. We sat and enjoyed our lovely meal while cracking up over our wild night last night. If only we had a picture of us on the back of this Brazilian guy's scooter. Too good. We talked about whether or not we ... read more

Day 9 The Anatara Lawan resort provided the most spectacular breakfast spread one could ask for... Smoked salmon, waffles, banana pancakes, eggs florentine, a variety of delicious cheeses, juices, smoothies, and more... All of this overlooking a turquoise tinted ocean. It was a little slice of heaven and this is how we started our day. After eating everything we could, we went for a long walk into town for some light shopping and a foot massage. It was starting to get really hot outside, so we knew we had to get to the ocean to cool down. We ventured down the shore and stumbled across a beachfront hotel called "Akbar" where we rented an umbrella, bought a piña colada, and played in the ocean. We were making right decisions. After hanging out with what kemper thought ... read more
