So having not slept, we packed up and managed to check out and get on our ferry to Koh Samui, Andy was asleep on the floor until about 15mins before we had to get out. Impressive packing skills, I take ages. Short trip and when we arrived we were spoilt rotten as our friend Jun works for a charter company in an office on the pier. He was there when we arrived and let us borrow a bike and a car to get ourselves and our bags to his place. Jun has the most amazing aquarium, with even a little turtle and lobster which make very cool pets. Jun’s let us borrow two mopeds so we went out for lunch before heading to the pier to go on a cruise on his boat. It was a ... read more

Koh Samui We checked in to the Lipa Lovely and headed straight to the pool. We had grand ideas of relaxing in the sun and getting a bit of colour. This proved to be impossible as after catching so much on the ferry, we were white and red all over and couldn't stand the heat. So we retired to the bar at Big Johns and indulged in a couple of pretty hefty cocktails. We then went up to the little shop at the top of the road and met a very friendly crazy thai lady who had a good laugh at our red bits and sold us some aftersun and some beer and fags and we retired to our balcony to relax. All of a sudden the heavens opened and we saw rain like we hadn't ... read more

So, as promised, the blog of the 50 hour trek. We had got on our little fishing boat back to the mainland to meet a private minibus which would race us back up Road 13 all the way past Pakse again and on to the Laos-Thai border. We arrived at the border and had to get out and walk across. We changed the last of our Kip back into Bhatt and walked underground and popped up again in Thailand. On the other side we were met by another private minibus who's seats reclined to complete horizontal. This was freakin amazing!! Cheryl KO'd and had the best couple of hours travel sleep ever. Unfortunately, my usually solid bladder decided 5 minutes in that now was the time that it was going to decide it couldn't wait and ... read more

So it appears that the big long entry I had typed with attached pics for the last leg of Thailand has disappeared. I dont think it saved properly! So i cant really remember what it said but ive added the pics. These last amazing weeks were spent island hopping Koh Samui (tourist city centre!), Koh Phanghan for some full moon antics and Koh Tao for a short stop before Bangkok called again. Our last night was spent in Lebua which is the hotel made famous by the film Hangover 2. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G :) Thats as much detail as im gonna go as its kinda passed now lol. Clairey :)... read more

The ferry ride over to Koh Tao was a bit of a mess - the ferry will hold hundreds of passengers - but no cars.  So it's a a huge mass of people trying to get on quickly so you can find a seat - but in the meantime it's a confusion of getting a spot for your bags, too.  All the bags went in the front of the ferry, so we had to bypass a seat to drop our bags, but then had to wade through the other people getting on back to our seats.  In the end, everyone had a place for both their bags and their bottoms.  It was a good two hour ride, and Mr. Bean was playing on the TV.  I could not enjoy the views as I had picked a ... read more

Arrived in Koh Samui airport- a little wooden shack basically- which featured on The Hangover 2. Got to ARK BAR resort which is by far the best accommodation yet. We have two adjoining rooms with huge double beds and a decent balcony. If I sand on my tip toes I can see the sea. The beach is literally 20 paces away, along with a pool, jacuzzi and bar! What more could we want?! Got organised and had a bit of a swim then got ready for the all important England/Italy match. Lonely Planet once again didn't let us down for food. Went to Gringo's, a Mexican close to Ark Bar. Had gorgeous Fajitas, freshly made on a hot place. Gorgeous! England Shirts on, we headed out to a few bars to get the night started, eagerly ... read more

I've suffered from information overload when it comes to planning where to go in Koh Samui and the other islands to the north in the Gulf of Thailand. There are hundreds of descriptions of hotels, bars, and restaurants in my guidebook, and it doesn't help that I'm using a Kindle (not recommended for guide books), so it's hard to flip through or bookmark interesting places. Also, since it was the beginning of my trip, I hadn't much of a chance to exchange ideas with other travelers. Since research was overwhelming, I decided to stay at 2 days on each of the three main islands -- Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Tao. It's easy to get to Koh (sometimes spelled Ko) Samui on a short flight or a longer overnight train then bus then ferry from ... read more

Day 20 and 21 We arrived on Koh Tao by ferry, a speedier boat than the last with very comfortable seating and air conditioning in a boat that would have held maybe 200 people. The trip was one and a half hours but otherwise quite uneventful. Our accommodation this time was only 10 minutes from the port so we were ensconced in our rooms by just after midmorning. The day was ours. I changed into my lovely pink togs and headed for the resort pool as the beach was quite littered with longboats with people coming in and out on them. Also the sea was quite choppy and there was a strong breeze coming off the sea. The pool was considerably colder than anywhere else so definitely the place to be. Later on in the day ... read more

So on Satursday the 9th of June we left India (following on from our last blog) and flew to Bngkok, Thailand. We flew to Bangkok without any solid plans, with no hotel or forward journey booked. We had however decided on one thing; that our time in South-East Asia will be taken at a much slower pace than we took in India. The flight was fairly short from New Delhi to Bangkok, and as soon as we got through immigration we made the decision that we would try to fly to Ko Samui. At 7:30pm local time, we bought tickets in the airport for the 9pm flight and ran through check-in to the gate. (Grabbing a quick bite to eat on the way!) We touched down in Samui airport around 10:30pm that night and Roxy was ... read more

Our journey from the West to the East coast was a real drawn out pain in the ass. Our long tail boat back to Krabi set off at 8 am, it was raining and misty and we had to wade out to the boat in the murky water that came up to our thighs. We then spent the day on several buses before getting the ferry to Samui and then a songthaew arriving at Choeng Mon hours later! Luckily it was well worth it. We'd chosen an amazing place, both our stay 'O'Soleil' and the beach. Unlike the popular Chaweng down the coast our little village was relatively uncommercialised and laid back, just what we wanted! Our bungalow was in a pretty tranquil garden dotted with ponds, and your nostrils filled with the flower scents on ... read more
