Not much to report for the week, we spent the days by the pool and the evenings we would go for food and maybe a drink if we could be arsed. The food in the resort was amazing so there was really no need to leave the resort plus the area in we were staying in, Lamai Beach during low season is full of old western men and their "girl friends" aka Lady boys and prostitutes so there really wasn't much reason to leave either. One of the evenings we went to Chewang which is another popular beach area, and spent two hours looking for lights Debbie decided she wanted. It was way busier but also very commercial. Luckily we were in Samui for rest and relaxation it didn't matter much. G fell in love with ... read more

So today we have to figure out how to get to the islands, G isn't feeling too good, we think she has a sinus infection! Debbie manages to get a late check out so she can stay in bed and hopefully get better . We still need to decide which island we are actually going too. So Debbie decides to waste about 2 hours looking into flying to Koh Samui, even though we knew we couldn't afford it. G had read that under no circumstance should you book an overnight bus from the Koh San Road or anywhere near it! So we wanted to get a government bus but they were all booked out and Debbie wouldn't wait till the next day to travel as she only had 5 days before she had to return home. ... read more

August 20, 2011: Koh Samui, Thailand. This place has a nice energy about it. It has the touristy vacation area in case you want to have some great Italian food or dance the night away. It also is a large enough island that you can rent a scooter for 200 Baht ($6 US) and take a full circle of the island in about 2 hours. There are some great temples as you circle around, a few fishing villages, some waterfalls, hiking, and lots of small public roads you can head down if you want to see how the locals live. Now go have some fun. ... read more

Finding it hard to believe that by the time some of you are reading this we will hopefully be safe and sound back in Manchester wondering where the time all went. Finding it hard to deal with the mixed emotions of wanting to stay in paradise just a little bit longer and the overwhelming excitement of seeing people, which is now intruding on sleep and lots of my thoughts during the day as well. Struggling with the reality of home was always going to be hard but the news reports from the UK this week have made us realise just how difficult this transition may be. From TV reports and newspaper clippings it feels like we are returning to a very different country than we left-hoping and praying that everyone we know and care about has ... read more

We arrived on Lamai beach, down the south end at the Green Villa which was run by 2 french men and were shown to our room. We walked up the steps of our little shack and opened the door which revealed a double bed and just about enough room down the side to place our bags. Opening the door to the bathroom we discovered a toilet without a flush; with a bucket of water next to it…at this point we felt we were proper travellers. We soon realised we were not alone in in our little shack after finding lizards and giant ants crawling around, this would account for the price we paid a night of only £6 for both of us. Unpacking a few bits we went to the restaurant and had a brunch of ... read more

Arriving at Baan rom mai we settled into our room by spreading our stuff around and finally hanging up some clothes. We had a quick dip in the pool after another sweaty journey then headed off to the beach in search of some food. Chaweng beach couldn’t have been more different to the one we had just left in koh Tao, all along the beach front were big posh hotels with fancy restaurants We learnt this when we sat down at the first place we came across and embarrassed as we couldn’t afford anything of the menu just asked for 2 fantas which ended up costing the same amount as we had paid for a full meal and drinks in Bangkok. After walking about 2 miles down the sandy beach we decided to stop at arc ... read more

We were quite nervous about this trip to Thailand, we hadn’t been to Koh Samui for 10 years and we had been wondering if we had made the right decision to revisit since we booked our flights! Again, our flight arrived close to midnight so being the tight arses that we are, we waited in Bangkok airport until it was time for the first flight to Surat Thani. This time we were fully prepared for the transport mafia on arrival at Surat Thani as we had pre-researched our options. After our night in the airport with little sleep, we decided to go for the faster ferry option to Koh Samui. It was expensive at 650 baht each (£13) but it was half the journey time and we just wanted to get there at this point. We ... read more

After catching the 'drug runner' multi engined speedboat back to the mainland from Koh Tarutao we wandered in the heat of the day to find the bus station to get back to hat yai (the bus itself was quite something – neon upholstery, pink and green panelling and a TV playing Thai pop music videos, which all seemed to centre around a love triangle, the whole journey!), then tuk-tuked to the pier to cacth the night ferry to Koh Samui...night ferries are the best way to travel between the islands in my humble opinion as they're cheaper than the day ones and you get a bed for the night … saving you the cost of a hostel! The crossing was calm and peaceful and we managed to grab a few hours sleep. Once we'd docked we ... read more

On Wednesday after we enjoyed another massive breakfast at the Park Royal, we packed our bags and chilled out by the pool for most of the morning as absolutely NOTHING happens in KL for tourists before 11am. Then it was a super quick trip across to Sengei Wang for some last minute shopping before catching a taxi out to Subang Airport for our Firefly flight to Koh Samui. Traffic was horrendous right near the hotel and we were stuck in a traffic jam for what seemed like an eternity. Funny tho', when I told the driver that we were probably going to be late for our flight at the rate we were going, he was suddenly able to change lanes and duck and dive thru the traffic and we were on our way. It took about ... read more

Surat Thani, 19.červenec Právě máme před sebou let s Thai Airways do Bangkoku a pozdní příjezd do hotelu Chatrium rezidence.
