Although an island we had visited on our travels before, the weather then was pretty much torrential rain the whole time so we were both excited to be going back to Samui. We had originally planned to explore a bit more of the island this time, however, as we were on such a short time frame and arriving in the middle of Songkran, we again based ourselves in Chewang. Our flight arrived from Bangkok on time to probably the smallest and cutest airport either of us had ever seen, the weather was glorious and as we waited for our luggage we couldn't wait to get to our hotel and onto the beach. After a short delay the luggage started coming round the small conveyor belt and after a while out came the super soakers with their ... read more

When we arrived in Thailand, I swore that driving here would be suicidal and probably homicidal too. Zillions of motorcycles, 3 people on each, no helmets zipping all over the road at seemingly their own whim! The roads are narrow, even the major thoroughfares. Today, however, we took the plunge and rented an SUV to toodle around the island. Great day!! We set off to the waterfall at Na Mueang, 80 meters high and about a 20 minute sweaty walk in the jungle, but totally worth it! About half way, there are rock pools that you can swim in, and the kids had a blast! Then on to the top to see the actual falls that were beautiful. The area is very well cared for by the folks that run the elephant trek outfit and the jungle ... read more

We were told "the place to be" for songkran festival was Chiang Mai, and Samui has a smaller, lamer version of the water festival..the Thai new year, but I'm not sure how it could get much bigger than Chewang beach's festival! It took almost an hour to get into town today because of the holiday, and every 10 feet there is a crowd with a hose and a water barrel, water guns and basins soaking every passing motorcycle, car and pedestrian! When we got into the main street of Chewang beach it was mayhem! We were soaked to the skin in moments, quickly armed ourselves with water guns and joined the fray. Some sneaky buggers put ice in their barrels so the soaking was also freezing....for a few seconds....in 35C heat it's no hardship! In addition, ... read more

Arrived here yesterday to beautiful Koh (island) Samui, hot and beautiful! We booked the resort at ShaSa from home....very beautiful and quiet, but a bit isolated. the restaurant is very fancy and $$$$. Will have to find a store for snacks and the like so we are not in the poor house! Not a lot of plans for this stretch...maybe go to the 80 m waterfall or for a little snorkel in a few days?... read more

Appologies people for not writting more blogs those of you who i dont speak to on the phone must have been wondering what on earth i have been doing! Well... Ko Phi Phi was a very pretty island arrived mid afternoon and due to no cars on the island we walked to the hostel which was called Flower Bungalows which was a very hot and sweaty walk. The room was a bed on the floor in a little bamboo shak type thing with a fan and a sorry excuse for a toilet/bathroom lots of mozzies everywhere but nevermind still doesnt compare to the horrors of Cape Tribulation and that spider + snake infested place. We had dinner in a boat in the trees (bascially a tree house made out of a boat) we love our people ... read more

Last year, my cousin Misti and I took a trip to Cebu with a few of her friends during her spring break from school. This year it was just the two of us girls in Ko Samui, Thailand for a week of SUN and FUN. It was soooooooo relaxing and we had a ton of fun. We spent several of our days just enjoying the resort but took two day trips to snorkel and kayak. Here are some pictures of our amazing trip.... read more

For our first night in Bangkok we met up with Fon (Gaffney's cousin's friend) who took us straight to Khao San Road! Packed full of backpackers, bars, clubs and stalls selling everything from fried insects to fake ID, it was mental and a great start to Bangkok! Had thai food for dinner and sampled our first bucket in a bar advertised as 'We don't check ID' before going to Gulivars travels night club! Great first night it Bangkok! Wednesday we spent our first full day in Bangkok, being very cultured. Fon took us to see 3 temples in 38 degree heat and no wind! Massive shock to the system!! First we visited Wat Phra Kaew and the Grand Palace. Was really busy and too hot but still absolutely stunning! The ordination hall is home to the ... read more

26th March ’12 Phuket to Ko Samui Much to our amazement the minibus found the guesthouse and picked us up on time, the time being 6.45am, we then had a little tour round Patong picking up other people. One of the last people we collected was a young, very westernised Thai girl who sat in the front and chattered non stop to the driver. She also turned round and said hello to us and asked us where we were from. The minibus then stopped right in the heart of the real town of Patong where we were told another bus would be along soon. The young Thai girl came and stood with us and explained that she was nervous about travelling on her own without a friend so could we be her friends, we said yes ... read more

Only came back to Samui really to spend some quality time with Stacey and Darryl before they went back home. Stacey and I woke up rather early to start on the tan challenge. It was absolutely boiling, as soon as you put on sun cream it was sweated off. We did create our own little resort in Nolans garden though including pool (paddling pool from his daughters) and beach area (bit of sand in the corner of the garden) and waiters (Jimbo and Darryl) who bought us drinks and even opened them for us! In the evening we went back to the Fishermans Walking Market which was amazing. We had mojitos and street food planned which did occur but for Stacey and I it was limited. We both werent really in the mood for drinking so ... read more

We had arrived in Koh Samui in the dark late at night and so next morning it was a lovely surprise to emerge into the gorgeous fragrant tropical gardens of our hotel, with the heavenly scents of frangipani and the colourful hibiscus and lotus flowers in the ponds. Then to wander through to the beach and see the classic sweeping bay of perfect white sand, fringed palms leaning towards the waves. Koh Samui is a typical tropical island blanketed in palms. It ships huge numbers of coconuts to Bangkok. The island is mostly uninhabited and pretty mountainous in the interior; most buildings are around the coastal fringe. There are many western style hotels, mostly well camouflaged, in our strip of coast anyway at Choeng Mon, one of the smaller beaches on the island. The local ‘samui ... read more
