We have spent 5 days on the island, the largest on the south east coast of Thailand. It is only 100km around, but varies from Malia esque strips to tranquil deserted beaches. After the over night train and ferry, we arrived on our little isle or paradise at approx lunch time and were taken to Monkey Samui, a Hostel near Choengmon, on the nothern peninsula. From the website, it looked awesome, with a pool, private rooms available to upgrade to and a shuttle bus to the town every hr. This was a stretch of the truth and when we arrived (having already requested an upgrade as we were here for 5 days) the room still had bunk beds in, with no plug sockets and a main light that wasn't working. The pool.... i wouldn't go in as it was, not sure i would even put my dog in it as it was, and the 'bus' had broken so we had to walk the 20mins to get anywhere. I was pissed off! We asked polly whether we could move to somewhere closer to the main strip (a further 60min walk away) 10 out of the 12 of us, expressed the
want to move, however, due to the accommodation bring 'ok' we were staying put... makes me wonder if we have to threaten to sue to be listened to, as our accommodation in Laos, 10 of us out of 18 were happy with! Rant over!
Anyways, myself and Jay decided to go and find somewhere in town to stay, as it was off season, there was bargaining to be done. Bearing in mind, out bunk bed room was 600 Baht a night, we managed to find a lovely hotel, with restaurant, pool, gym, spa on the beach front for the same price! So after one night, we moved, as did dan and vicky once they returned from their diving. I was so much happier, as i was looking forward to the beaches here so much and needed to get away from the group for some me time.
There were a few things that occurred from here on in the next 4 days, but cant remember really when what happened so here are the points!
Walked to the strip, and indeed it was tourist, lads on tour heaven. But with little public access to the beach.. the majority of the access was resort owned, i
preferred our little place. We had a beverage on the beach as the sky turned pink. Had a look around the shops and bought a new bikini 😊 and then got an expensive taxi back!
Hired a Ped to go around the island for the day (£3 for 24hrs) saw the big Buddha, stunning beaches, a view point, a view point in the torrential rain, the elephant gate, the mummified monk (with sunglasses on as his eyes fell out!) and grandfather rock (the penis rock!). It was a fab day, until we returned to find that Becca had been knocked off her ped on a different journey and had stitches in her hear, a broken wrist and road rash! Bless her heart! She is continuing on the trip though 😊
Beach bummed and swam in the pool alot!
Ate alot of Thai curries and fish of varying varieties
Had a glass of wine on the beach in the evening
Got to wear my maxi dress
and that's about it. just nice to have a 'holiday' in all of these travels! Off to Malaysia at 1am tomorrow.... cannot believe another country is done and dusted... now need to decide whether to come home for xmas or carry
on to oz! Why are these decisions never easy! x
