Got on bus just before 8am - had tons of room and was full of westerners. Stopped at Jurantut so that the Han travel agency here could sell us our ferry tickets (70RM return). Had lunch at a restaurant in Gua Musang -roti with a curry dipping sauce (roti reminds me of sausage roll pastry and is totally delicious though prob has about 30,000cals in it). Changed onto a mini bus here (group split into those going to Cameron Highlands and those going to Perhentians). We had been on the road about 5 1/2hrs before stopping for dinner and we spent another 2 1/2hrs in the mini bus where some guy tried to freeze me to death by insisting the aircon be turned right up and pointed at him who unfortunately was sat right behind me! ... read more

We got a luxury night bus from Penang on the west coast of Malaysia to Kuala Besut on the east coast and got some sleep thanks to the very nice adjustable first class seats (woo hoo!). We arrived at the harbour in Kuala Besut at 5.30am and in plenty of time to get the first boat to the Perhentian Islands. Fast boat set off at 7.45am and the ride was very bumpy but very exciting. We asked to be dropped off at quiet Coral Bay on Perhentian Kecil (aka Small Island) and were pleased to see only one other couple also looking for somewhere to stay (we'd heard many stories about the stressful search for acommodation first thing in the morning). Just a short visit to do some dive, before i depart to Jogjakarta next week. I choose to go Perhentian during weekdays, really awesome while i can see more beautiful underwater creature at this time. This is a test for my new gadget G11 + WP-DC34 d;D. Till then ...... read more

By far the most amazing thing we have ever seen and are likely to see. At around 6:30pm this evening we saw 158 green turtles hatching in front of our room. Along with Debbie, Hash, Kerry, David, Steven and Zul plus other guests from Petani we watched as they made there way out of the hole (which the female turtle came and laid the eggs 2 months ago) and instinctively walked down to the beach and in to the sea. Unfortunately 4 were dead and there were 5 unhatched shells, of the ones that made it to the sea hopefully at least 3% will survive and count towards the decreasing turtle population. Hallo! De tijd is aangebroken om de Perhentian eilanden te verlaten, het is een heerlijk gevoel om te vertrekken wanneer we zelf willen of juist te blijven. Voor ons is dit het juiste moment om te vertrekken, de Koreaanse toerist is erg in opkomst en nu de westerse toerist het eiland heeft verlaten is het strand in eens niet meer zo wit. Het lijkt alsof de Koreaan pas sinds kort blootgesteld wordt aan vakantie vieren, zo wordt het cliché beeld van een gemiddelde toerist (die met een camera op zijn buik) erg overtrokken. Vanmorgen toen ik mijn camera op ging halen aan het vaste land stond er een gezin waarvan vermoedelijk de vader een hawaïhemd droeg en een passende broek met bloemenprint, zijn vrouw idem, maar droeg een hoed met muggennet voor haar gezicht.
