Hi, I really need your advice as I do not know exact dates when I will be in Perhentian I can not book any place to stay. So maybe someone knows how possible would it be just to arrive in Perhentian at mid March 2011 and get a room without reservation?
Thank you so much in advance for the help.

I deleted your duplicate request about Penhentian Besar as it was identical to this one. You can just ask about both islands on one thread.
Thanks
Reply to this Hi Elina,
Mid March is the low period for Perhentians, so you should have no problems rocking up without a reservation. If you need some advice on where to stay I can give some recommendations, if you tell me what kind of place you want, and things to do.
I am a project coordinator for Help Our Penyu (HOPE), we are a sea turtle conservation organisation based on the islands, do look out for us as we will be running info booths and activities around the islands- spreading marine awareness to tourists and locals. (By the way you can also volunteer with us if you so wish).
Do drop by to say hi at our info booths, and enjoy the islands, they are beautiful.

I arrived there with my daughter on the smaller of the Perhentian islands last August. Accomodation wasnt plentiful, but we did get some. We had a double hut, because it cost the same as 2 dorm beds.
What was a bit strange were the prices. Expect to pay way more that what the Lonely Planet books states. 3 to 4 times as much would not be an exaggeration. At least that was how it was on the beach we went to. I think, it was called Long Beach.
Try to arrive on the island as early as possible. Know which places you would like to stay at and be ready to grab the first available room or bed when somebody checks out.

Reply to this Elina, I edited the title of this thread, to include Perhentian Besar. Hope that is OK with you. 😉

If you need advise on which Perhentian Kecil ( Small Island ) is more for backpackers and party-going as for Perhentian Besar ( Big Island ) is more for relaxing but the accomodation is much more expensive. <snip>

I would like some recommendations for accommodation please I will be there in about a week. Not looking for a party scene prefer more chilled. Basic is fine, on the water would be nice :-)

Last year I stayed in Lemongrass chalets on long beach on Perhentian Kecil. They were the least expensive beach huts there but still cost 60RM for a double. I dont know if the price has gone up since or not. They were basic but nice and the views of the beach from the Lemongrass cafe are lovely. They are hard to get because the seem to always get full up(probably because most/all of the other accomodation is more expensive, so get there early.
I think, there might be dorms someplace on the beach too, which are less expensive.
