We arrive in Rome on a sunny January afternoon. Got to our hotel, just north of Vatican City before having a rest (3:30am start!) and heading to the Eternal City for some much needed culture and quattro formaggi. We stayed at Park dei Massimi which is located on one of Romes 7 hills behind Vatican City. We made the mistake after arriving of walking down said hill to the Vatican - probably not the best idea after getting up at 3:30am and traveling from London! Luckily the hotel offered a free shuttle service up and down the hill which we used for the rest of our stay, along with public transport. Vatican City/St Peter's Basilica and St Peter's Square - we spent quite a lot of time in the square just people watching Vatican Museums The ... read more

Our first wedding anniversary was spent in the beautiful city of Prague in October 2012. We had an amazing 4 days in this historic city. We booked through Easyjet holidays and managed to get a really good deal on flights and the hotel. Unfortunately, like with most low cost flights, they were early. Although having a early outbound flight does mean you get a whole day! We arrived at Ruzyne Airport at 9:40am. After much debating we decided to take the easy route and get a taxi to our hotel Royal Court Hotel Prague. The hotel was in a great location, in the city centre and about a 15 minute walk to Wenceslas Square, shops and the clock tower. On our 4 day trip we visited the Astronimcal Clock Tower (and saw it chime!), walked across ... read more

La Dolce Vita “The Good Life” Saturday 8th October to Saturday 15th October Feeling a bit sad about leaving, but looking forward to our next destination, we left Malcesine and headed back to Verona by taxi to take the train to Lucca in Tuscany. 3 changes and 4 hours later we arrived feeling rather exhausted and in need of....surprise surprise.... a nice meal. We were staying just outside of Lucca in a renovated barn of an old Tuscan Villa (built in the 1700’s). The villa itself was huge, with acres and acres of land on which there was a swimming pool, vegetable garden (where we picked our own veg) and row after row of olive trees. At first we were a bit worried about how we would get in to Lucca as there didn’t seem to ... read more

And finally our adventures in Italy make it to travel blog! I had originally written separate blogs for each place that we visited, but being so busy when we were out there getting ready for the wedding and sightseeing we really didn’t have a lot of time to do much else. Without further ado I shall begin.... Thursday 29th September to Friday 30th September We arrived in Italy on the 29th September to Verona where we spent 2 nights in the Best Western Hotel de Capuleti. Verona is lovely, small and very old with lots of shop windows to browse in, gelato shops galore and amazingly great pizza. It is also home to an ancient Roman Forum, Juliet’s Balcony and a hanging whale bone which was meant to fall on the first persons head to walk ... read more

Welcome back blog followers and greetings to all you new readers out there! It’s been a while since our last blog when we were in Australia – we are now back in blustery old England and getting on with life as normal. Compared to Asia it is a bit dull to say the least and we are already planning our next escapade(s)! Our first journey will be taking us to the continent and on to Italian soil to sample the fine wine, delicious olives and to become Mr and Mrs after 7 years of being together. As many of you may remember, Phil proposed to Victoria on a very hot and humid night back in Singapore last August and luckily she said yes. Since then it has all been a bit of a whirlwind in ... read more

Another (11th to be precise) flight later from Kota Bharu (the nearest airport to the Perhentian Islands) and we were back in the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur. I'd found a reasonably priced place online a few days before we arrived called Serai Inn which was a stones throw away from China Town and Little India. The room was comfy and basic with shared bathroom/toilet and we made the most of the air con room and hot shower - oh AND we had a sink....a big improvement on washing our teeth with a hose and spitting in to the hole in the floor in Suhaila's 'Palace' (it's funny how words just get thrown around) and a proper shower not just freezing water coming out of a hose on the wall. I bet you lot at ... read more

When we were all templed out we took an early bus south to Phnom Penh and then a tuk tuk to the airport for our afternoon flight back to Bangkok. We spent a night in Bangkok doing what we do best when we are there, shopping! We had to work out how we were going to get to the southern province of Krabi to meet our friends Faye and James who were spending two weeks there on holiday. We had experienced an overnight train in Thailand so thought this time we would see what an overnight coach was like, and compare the two. We can both safely say that we have never ever been on such an awful journey in all our lives. We were picked up from our hotel on Khao San Road on ... read more
