The day had finally come! I had enjoyed my time in Europe but really did miss home and was looking forward to being back in Australia where I could speak the language, knew how things worked, and just be around family and friends. I had stayed up the night before to pack so didn't need to pack much this morning. Adam left early to go on the Dachau day tour and stopped by to say goodbye. For breakfast that left Nat, Todd and I. Ahh my last buffet breakfast (for a while!). After breakfast I used the Internet downstairs then Todd and I used the payphone across the road to confirm my British Airways flight (Munich to London). Back upstairs, I made some last minute checks. In no time, I was ready to go. Nat stopped ... read more

So after a 5 hour journey with more beautiful scenary we made it to our campsite called camping Oase 40km north of Frieburg. Its a lovely friendly camp site that supplies fresh rolls & OJ every morning and they even do your washing for you (if you can catch reception while its open)...what more can you ask for. Well, actually theres a swimming pool just next door too with loads of sunbathing area which is useful for all the hot weather we're still having. Its quite nice in the evenings coz we get to watch a thunder storm and cool down then its nice again by the morning. Except yesterday when it was a bit over cast so we went to Europa Park. Its a big theme park about 7km from the campsite, we had a ... read more

Day 18, 18th June. Wesserling - Bonn - Remagen A bit Queezy!!! I was up all night with the worse sickness and diarrhea I’ve ever had. I didn’t realize my body could contain so much puke, yuch! Rory helped me out and stood in some of my vomit in the process. It must have been some sort of food poisoning. At 10.30 we set off, I felt weak, but we found the Rhein and continued to Bonn where the guys got their bikes fixed and other bits added too… Toby became one of the ‘Brookes squad’ and then his front pannier rack broke! At Remagen we stocked up on food, after only about 30 miles I was weak, we decided to camp on the site there. It was raining as I pitched tent at 5pm. I ... read more

This time last year I would have smirked at you if you had have told me I would be attending the World Cup in Germany. Furthermore, I would have scoffed at you if it was implied that I would show any form of real excitement towards a round balled game that quite often produces a scoreless draw. And, would’ve been absolutely shattered if told that I would turn down offers of more than $2000 for a ticket I paid $45 for. How things have changed. Whatever judgments are made from what is written and seen here will never completely do it justice. The atmosphere was electric. The excitement beyond compare. The anticipation unrivalled. The 2006 World Cup in Germany - was an event that simply had to be experienced to be believed. With Australia and Brazil ... read more

Day 16, 16th June. Around Düsseldorf The guys, and Leslie, have all emulated their ‘Great Leader’ and bought Brookes saddles*. Today was spent lurking around town. At Kaufhaus we managed to use the internet and I read the many letters from Kathryn, including naughty ones! Later on we went to Mark and Urs’s place to pick up our bikes we left last night then went back to the tents. I cooked dinner and Mark arrived later with Rita, his new girlfriend! Later on I called Kathryn collect, and spoke to her an hour about life and love, many times before have I imagined a future, but this time it seems that fate has stepped in and set this future in stone. I rode back to the campsite lit by fireflies. *Brookes saddles - the best leather ... read more

Now I am in Budapest using a hungarian keyboard. There will be some typos....sorry. First stop, I went to the munich soccer stadium, and then i head to BMW museum. I love Bmw, unfortunately that they are building a new museum and the old one is also in construction so thez have these small little tents to show a little bit. It was quite disappointing. I tried to get the BMW factory tour. Apparently you have to book it 3 months in advance. I tried to sweet talk the guy and they have one tour that day at 6pm in german. The tour is all walking for 3 hours. I would do it, if it was not my last night here. After BMW, I went to the English Garden which is one of the biggest garden ... read more

柏林,04年來訪時我仍然想努力尋找二戰過後的遺跡;今次再來,曾經佈滿彈痕的國會大廈,對出空地已變成「縮小了的Olympiastadion」──'Adidas World of Football',想忘記,原來容易得很。 ... read more

Following a slightly disconcerting 2 day stop in London, it was definitely time to temporarily put the spanish language skills to sleep and insert the German CD ROM into our heads. I do love Germany. We'd arranged, instead of paying an exorbitant World Cup hotel rate, to stay with a local German family in Stuttgart for our trip to the game between Spain and Tunisia. Upon arrival, we were greeted with an offer of a cold drink (beer, natuerlich) and a nice seat in the sun on the balcony. Our hosts, it turns out, were offering their room during the World Cup for a bit of craic, not for any financial gain. We spent that first afternoon drinking beer, Sekt (cheap Germany fizzy wine), and stuffing our faces for free. Much better than any hotel, and ... read more

Another warm morning and another early-ish wake up. Nat, Todd and I went down to breakfast while Adam stayed in. He got sunburnt from the game the day before! After breakfast, we all head to Marienplatz (city centre). Todd and I went to an Internet cafe while Nat & Adam went to the Tourist Information Centre to book some tours. Afterwards we all walked down the mall area, looked for Aussie supporter gear and had lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. Filled with soccer fans, they had plasmas everywhere showing the game. We enjoyed a huge meal before heading to Hofbrauhaus next door. On entering Hofbrauhaus, you already knew it was filled with Aussies and Brazillians. There was a lot of yellow/gold and green about! People were enjoying 1L steins, singing, talking (shouting!) loudly and having ... read more
