Stop Two - Paul Streng Winery As we made our way back to Rothenburg, we stopped at a small winery in Sulzfeld. This was a suggestion from our innkeeper at the B&B. Good thing we had GPS in the car or we would have never found it. The vinter’s name was Tobias Streng. His family owned this winery. They handle all aspects of their wine, from harvest to bottling. He was very friendly and spoke English. Yah! Their wine was very good and only 4 Euros for the “very good” stuff and 3 Euros for just the “good”. Needless to say, we bought 3 bottles of each and some of their brandy. I hope some of it makes it home! Stop Three - Rothenburg The main square of Rothenburg was within 5 minutes. We watched a ... read more

Game today was dissapointing, but, in all seriousness, the US team really wasn't that good. They are a solid team, and deserved to be there, but 2 goals in 3 games won't cut it. They didn't deserve to move on, and they won't. Anxious to get to Prague tomorrow - can't wait to leave Germany. You can tell that Americans are not well liked here - I guess they forgot all about the Marshall Plan! Munich yesterday, so of course a trip to the Hofbrau Haus was in order. Huge beers and sausages! Lots of fan from all over. Loudest were the Serbians, which is strange since they are sure to get eliminated today. ... read more

Tuesday, the 20th of June Our original plan when we walked the 2km down to the train station yesterday was purchasing tickets to Triere, and we’d ride from there to Köln. We looked at the map again before bed, and realized we’d blown our math again and couldn’t make it to Köln. Math is hard! So, when we got to the train station this morning we spent 20 minutes or so getting the tickets exchanged for Cochem, quite a bit further down the river. The Luxembourg train station has an AMAZING amount of traffic going through it! Luxembourg’s population basically doubles during the workday with all of the workers for the European Union government commuting in from surrounding countries, mostly by train. While we were on the train we met a 67 year old retired German ... read more

Day 20, 20th June. St Goar - Bingen - Mainz - Lörsch - Heidelberg Woke early feeling much better with appetite back. We were all on the road at eight. Toby was dazed and confused as usual, he keeps losing things; camera, sunglasses, mug… We had breakfast in a bakery and carried on down the Rhein. The mists lifted to reveal a blue sky, it was to be a hot day. Once at Bingen the scenery flattened out and we followed a rather confusing path along the river to Mainz for lunch. At Oppenhein we went on the roads through villages to the Rhein ferry across to Gernsheim, and then roads to the Bergstraße which would lead us to Heidelberg. We stocked up on food at Edeka* and reached Heidelberg as the last rays of the ... read more

Disclaimer: We’re too busy to play on the internet and update this often. Plus, it’s been hard to find an internet café so far. So we’ll update when we can. Love you all. Day 1 - To Frankfurt We got off well from Seattle but getting to Cincinnati was another story. We flew around in circles waiting for the severe thunderstorms to end. The pilot came on saying we were being diverted to Indianapolis. No way. You’ve got to be kidding. All the thoughts of how this would really screw up our first few days in Germany starting flying through my head. As it was with everyone else on board that was flying to Germany. The pilot came on again about 20 minutes later saying we’re now heading to Dayton because we have no more fuel. ... read more

We decided to leave Munich a day early for Nuremburg, the site of the final US first round game which would decide America's fate in the tournament. The guys initially grabbed a seat in a smoking car of the train and ended up staying there because they had found four seats together. I found an empty seat in a smoke free car next door, so I stayed there and read. When we got off the train a couple hours later, Adam said something about Josh getting his own room. Apparently there was a tiff about hotel points for the night and a separate "rough housing" incident between the two on the train didn't help the situation. After some heated discussion in the hotel room Josh left to "find himself another room." In reality, that meant going ... read more

Munich Saturday June 17th was the second US game against Italy in Kaiserslautern. Since I did not have a ticket to the game, I thought it would be more fun to go straight to Munich to watch the game at the FanFest, and then go out in one of Germany's biggest cities. After watching the game, I made my way out to one of Munich's best clubs, 8 Seasons, to see a Hed Kandi DJ set. The inside area was ridiculously hot, but I found temperature relief on the cooler outdoor terrace. By 5am, I was ready to head back to the hotel, not long before the rest of the group would arrive. Conveniently we had booked a hotel for that night, with plans for the group to arrive at 6am the following morning, straight from ... read more

Have left Berlin after spending the last few days at an amazing old monastary and then celebrating Andre's 34th birthday. The train ride to Stuttgart was uneventful, apperently I'm finally understanding how to travel here. Stuttgart is a beautiful city. It sits in a crevass with hills all around it and is much more managable than Berlin, although by the time I left Berlin was managable as well. But it is very cute and Claudias apartment is right in the heart of the city so everything is in walking distance. Yesterday Claudia and Valentin (her 1 year old boy) took me on a walk through the city and then her younger brother Michael took me to the huge new Mercedes museum. It was really cool but probably wasted on me. Haha. Today I'm wandering and shopping, ... read more
