Geo: 52.5235, 13.4115Had a shower in the dodgy hostel room. The shower is in the corner and the sides are painted cream, so its not see through. As I have stayed here before I know the trick. Get in, through over your old clothes, have the new ones ready and hanging over the side. Just don't lean against the door, or it will open to everyone else in the room and scare them! Checked out and walked down the street to drop off some clothes to be washed. Then caught the tube and tried to find a bank, wanted to pay my credit card. No luck, looks like I will be charged a late fee, as I won't be back to the UK for about a month. Went to collect my CLEAN clothes!!! Clean clothes are ... read more

Geo: 52.5235, 13.4115I was very excited about being back in Berlin. There is a lot that I want to see that I didn't get around to last time. Had a quick shower and walked to the train station with my crappy map supplied to me by the hostel. I had to catch a train on the S-Bahn and then the U-Bahn. Was quite confused about which direction the trains were going, hoped for the best and ended up at a major station. Then caught the U-Bahn to Unter ven Linden. As I walked up the stairs the Brandenburg Gate was in front of me and so was a huge soccer ball. The city was full of tourists. I went into the huge soccer ball and saw some soccer stuff and soccer shoes. There was also the ... read more

Hi from World Cup land. We have made it to the soccer-mad city of Leipzig, and are awaiting the big France-Korea game to be played here tomorrow. The French and Korean fans are flooding the city, thank goodness neither are known for their hooliganism. It´s not often you hear "Watch out for those rowdy South Koreans!". Since we last wrote it has become summer here and the World Cup has started. We finished a lovely visit with our friends Cydney and Peter (and Peter´s parents) by watching the exciting first game between Germany and Costa Rica. The next day Cyd and Peter headed back to Boston and we headed on our way to the east. From Bad Godesberg we had planned to head east, since neither of us had been to that part of Germany before. ... read more

I can't put the pics up yet. My friends have dial up internet connection. I may do it when I am in Budapest. Anyway, we went to the Marienplatz on saturday morning which is the city square of Munich. At 11am, they have a little display show of jousting knights and dancing coopers, it was quite boring. Afterward we went to the city's oldest parish church. It got damaged good in the WWII. I went up to the top of the church to see the view of Munich. It was not as exciting as I thought it would be. Now here is the good stuff, Deutsches Museum supposes to be the best science museum in the world. I wouldn't doubt about that. Their math section is very fun. Not alot of history but a lot of ... read more

We had a late start in the morning as we actually had a bit of a sleep in!! We said goodbye to our American friends as they were headed off to Prague, and we went into the city to go for another wonder. We went to the old church in the middle of town which was once a huge cathedral. It was bombed in WWII and only a very small portion remains today and they left it in this state to show what war can do. The windows are still totally blown away and its quite sad to see so much of the cathedral as well as many other landmarks where destroyed due to the war. You can still see bullet holes and schrapnel marks in some walls and columns around the city. From there we ... read more

June 10 to June 16 Singapore is burning. My first night in Munich at the massive Tent and my only chance at a place to sleep, crazy enviornment complete with large campfires nightly. We gathered around a semi drunk Singapore man on the guitar, a great time chatting football and listing to his very karaoke voice with matching guitar scratch. He would dive into a Bob Dylan song, say, 'the Hurricane' and not but one minute he would lose his place, re-sing the chorus three times, then reach for his mystery bottle. I walked over to take a peak at the juice and found it was a German hot sauce bottle, contents unknown. It was a laugh, sitting around a bonfire in modern Munich with 30 people, then all of a sudden he fell to his ... read more

So I arrived in Berlin after getting off at the wrong Berlin stop and then checking the schedule and getting on a train which claimed to go where I needed to go and having all the German's tell me I was wrong. I ended up calling my couchsurfing host, Thomas, and he devised this whole plan, when in the end, all the German travellers were wrong and I was right, the train stopped at the main station after all. Right when I made it to Alexanderplatz to meet Thomas, it began to pour. We ran through the huge droplets to the car and by the time we arrived we were both soaking wet.... read more

As my title suggests I know now the entire public transport system and can navigate my well around the greater Berlin area on my own very well. As I have not updated very recently this will be quite a large post. Tuesday the 13th: I headed out early in the morning to Berlin by myself. I saw Alexander Platz, the Berliner Dom, Pergamon Museum, Bradenburger Tor (and the huge soccer ball that is currently in front of it), the Riechstag, the Jewish memorial and Potsdamer Platz. I got a feel for the city and spent a lot of time just wandering and laying in the many parks that dot the city. Berlin is so green because during the time of the wall, many parks were made and trees were put up in order to distract residents ... read more

Hello all. I have not written in a while but furtunatly John has so at least you all know where we are at. Life in Tübingen is good. We spend alot of our time over here watching the soccer ( i refuse to call it football) from the beer garden. John and I orderd an AFL footy off e-bay the other week and it got delivered a few days ago. So in between soccer matchs we usually have a kick, good times. Although a few days ago I kicked it into the lake next to the park and in my hast forgot to take out my wallet, mobile phone before i slipped and fell in. Good news is after drying it out it still works. I also have some big news. Im going back to Canada. ... read more

Day 14, 14th June. Tessenderlo - Leopoldsburg - Roermond (HOLLAND) - Elmpterwald (GERMANY) Woke up early, had breakfast and set off the same time as yesterday. There was blue sky and good cycle lanes ahead of us. After passing Leopoldsburg we went through a huge military area of Belgium before getting to Bree where we used up all our Belgian francs at Aldi and ate in the town square. My appetite was back with a vengeance! After then it was a straight ride to the Dutch border and coffee shops. We just cycled in, past an empty border station and along confusing cycle ways to Roermond where I managed to post my Barbie card off to Kathryn. Afterwards, Scott, Rory and I found an internet coffee shop which sold Colombian ‘specials’. We had one and checked ... read more
