so i went to a place called ecsholzplatz to watch the game, it's basically a massive park filled with picnic tables (about 800) and beer stands. I met two other australians on the way there and we were probably the most depressed people in all of germany for 80 odd minutes. then we scored, and of course sam went crazy, i jumped around knocking over a bench, and threw someones tennis ball straight into the crowd...... THEN we scored again, more similar celebrations but the best was yet to come. I made everybody stand up so we could make fools of ourselves when the final whistle went, BUT we scored AGAIN!!! this time, i decided to jump on a picnic table, and run down the length of them (about 50) giving everybody in my way high ... read more

World Cup Europe » Germany » Frankfurt By Lnelson June 13th 2006 I got to exprience a world cup soccer game on June 13th, 2006 in Frankfurt Germany. The game was Togo VS Korea at 3p local time. Me and my friend arrived that day the game started and first figured out how to get to the game via public transit. As on the ticket it advised that you had free public transit all day on the subways/public transit all day. The problem was trying to figure out the public transit which was all in German. Before the game we went to the main train station down town Frankfurt and it was a zoo with pubs, the train station, food places on the street and many tacky tourist shops in this area. On main thing that ... read more

i rode into switzerland, but in fact, nothing's special, unless i were a retired person, who owns a bicycle or even a boat. ... read more

AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE!!!! OI OI OI!!!! What an experience!!!! We woke up early, dressed in our green and gold, carried our flags and made our way to to the train station. There weren't many at the station nearest to us, but as soon as we got to the main station we were surrounded by both Aussies and Japanese! What a buzz! We were lucky to get a German info guy to help us buy tickets to Kaiserslautern. Ended up costing 54 Euro to get to Kaiserslautern from Frankfurt. That cost more than our tickets (45 Euros)!!! We grabbed some brekkie from Maccas and then ran onto the train to K-town. WOAH! All the Japanese fans had seats and the Aussies didn't! Guess they had planned ahead and made their reservations months ago! Some Aussies (like me) ... read more

I made it to Berlin. I took the night train from Paris to Berlin which was very pleasent, but wouldn't have been half as nice if I didn't have a private sleeper (thank you Mom). But by not paying attention, I missed my stop and had to figure out how to take the Sbahn back to my original stop. I arrived half an hour late and Steffi and I found eachother with both of us on the verge of tears. We then spent the after noon walking around Berlin, sightseeing (checkpoint Charlie, etc). The day before yesterday and zesterday were spent at the local festivle here in Bernau. They celebrate a midievil battle in which the people of Bernau beat the Hueseten. It was great with a parade with handmade costumes and horses and beer carts, ... read more

After a great night sleep, we decided that we would get a train up to Gelsenkirchen even without tickets around 11 am. As soon as we stepped into the train station in Dusseldorf, we could tell it was going to be an amazing day, and one that we could NOT miss. From one station to another, we met more and more American fans who broke into random chants and cheers. We met three cool kids from Wisconsin who were going to the game, then an awesome 27 year old couple from the US (but who lived in London) - Ryan and Brooke. Once we arrived in Gelsenkirchen, the athmosphere exploded as thousands of Czech and US fans poored into the streets. I was real confident of the game, and thought there was no way Czech Mix ... read more

Nothing new since yesterday's post, but have been trying to add some pictures for you to see. It is a slow, slow process so may not get many up today, but will try to add whenever we can. We are still at Megan's enjoying the visit and the full-size hot shower. The one in the RV is very small with limited water so this is a real treat! ... read more

So here I am, all the way in Europe, it’s hard to believe I had spent 3 months of my life trundling around the USA after so many months… about 7 months of planning in fact … and I had already completed half of my journey. ‘Half’ … yep that’s right, I still have the western and northen reaches of this new and bizzare foreign speaking continent to explore before I can return home to reality and lazy afternoons playing video games on my days off from work. Note: I haven’t played a game for way too long, im having withdrawels.. Prey must be out by now.. the expansions for Half Life 2? The Twilight Princess?? Im sure Bangers has already completed it and Michael has downloaded all the new PC games.. how I long for ... read more

After finishing up at the Heineken Factory yesterday we caught the tram to the city centre, had lunch at Maccas (don't worry I had a salad this time not another burger!) and did some souvenir shopping. We then caught the bus back to the hotel to collect our luggage and took a transfer to the airport. Checked in and ready to go, we watched the Holland vs Serbia & Mont game at the sportsbar in the airport. One big orange family! Seated on the small KLM plane we were surrounded by soccer fans! The plane ride took about an hour from Amsterdam to Frankfurt. Arriving in Frankfurt, we took a taxi to the hotel (about 20 mins away). Frankfurt is clean and very modern. It's not what we were expecting at all! Arriving at the hotel ... read more
