We arrived at our relatives' place in Munich early Saturday morning, in good time to prepare for the match at 5pm that afternoon. A few beers were inbibed in preparation for the main event later on, and so we headed off for the stadium, in an extremely packed S-Bahn train. When we got there, lo and behold there was no record of our tickets, nor of the security man we'd gotten to know in Stuttgart, so we went away somewhat saddened, but really only with confirmation of the scam we'd known all along. Then I remembered that I'd managed to get a rather nice photo of our 'FIFA Friend', and also had his mobile number which I'd previously reached him on, so we decided to file a report with the police. We were taken in, through ... read more

hello everybody, first of all sorry if i cant write too well, this keyboard is crazy! well Ben and I went to the Socceroos game on Thursday night, it was easily the best experience i've ever had. We, I especially worried all day that we might not be allowed to enter because of the fact that the tickets werent ours, but it was easy, I play it down to either my charm or the fact that the girl at the turnstile was just plain lazy... So we were in,with approx 2 hours to go before K.O .. many beers followed and to our absolute joy we found ourselves seated in the middle of around 10,000 blissfully ignorant croatian fans. This ensured that my singing voice in the national anthem could be heard from twenty rows away, ... read more

Day 3 - The End of the Romantic Strausse (Road) We let the girls sleep in so Ted and I went for a walk top the inner wall of Rotherburg. It was still cool and no one was really up yet. We started at one of the watch towers near our B&B and walked thorough three or four before heading back down to the main square. The overhead cross beams were so low that Ted had to duck the whole time so we made it a short walk. In the walls of the inner wall, there are bricks that are engraved with peoples names that have contributed money to the city to reconstruct after the war. In the beginning these brinks cost less than 1 Euro. Now you can buy them for about 1500 Euro. Don’t ... read more

Only ended up staying in Luxembourg for one night and then headed off into Germany and up the Mosel Valley. Wineries on both sides of the valley and sometimes you wonder how the hell they manage to operate them seeing as some of them are hanging off the side of a cliff. At this point I should also apologise if a few stray letters appear in the text but I am typing on a German keyboard and a few letters are in different places (eg the y & z are swapped around) so forgive any spelling mistakes. Spent the night in a great little town called Cochem, although we chickened out of the camping, and instead stayed in a really nice little hotel on the river overlooking the town and castle. The Germans were playing just ... read more

Day 3 - Stop One - Wurzburg - The beginning of the Romantic Road. It is another beautiful city. Large churches and huge old buildings The first stop was the Wurzburg Residenz. It was the prince’s palace. The gardens were beautiful. Everything was in bloom. The smell of the roses was incredible. Awesome! We heard that 15 to 20 weddings happen each day there in the spring and summer. We saw 3 brides and their parties taking pictures in the gardens when we were there. There were many gardens so they probably didn’t know the other was there. A short 5 minutes walk took us through the market square to the Old Main Bridge. The market square had all kinds of fruits and flowers for sale. There was a Germany high school band playing “Dancing Queen” ... read more

Day 23, 23rd June. Röshof - Großhubersdorf - Nürnberg - Pommelsbruhn We were on the road early again, a lovely day again. We stopped off at a village to finish off last nights pasta on a brötchen. It was a short ride into Nürnberg, a confusing city and very busy until we entered the Altstadt - it was amazingly beautiful. We bought our pepper-sprays here and tried to find bike bits but with no luck. Scot and Rory went to McDonald’s against my advice, paid €5 each (twice the price of last night’s meal I cooked for all of us) and ended up saying it was the most disgusting food they’d tasted for ages, Ha! I stocked up on Spiritus* before the shops closed and we headed off east out of town. Just outside the city ... read more

Day 22, 22nd June. Jagsthausen - Schrozberg - Rothenburg - Röshof We arose early, packed, and left without paying the €2.50 requested on the sign - there was no-one there to take it to anyway. It was 7 when we carried on along the Jagstal cycle path. We stopped for breakfast at a Backerei and watered up before the climb at the end of the valley which was pretty hard. Scott’s legs were paining him again so we slowed down. The thing with following the rivers is that we do only about half the distance as the crow flies - Scott finds this out on his GPS. We notice a big difference being only three, we are much quicker on the move and making decisions. So, after leaving the rivers we were on the plateau with ... read more

Day 2 -We met up with Breanne. It was so good to see her! She looks the same… just a Danish hair cut (which she hates). I think we smiled and talked for hours. Yes, she still talks 100 mph. It’s now the next day around 11:00am (we got no sleep) and we head to Rothenburg ob der Taber. On our way, we travel through a town named Spessart Specht. My niece’s last name is Specht. We had to stop and take a picture. We’ll figure out what is means when we finally get on the internet. Rothenberg, what a beautiful place! It’s an old medieval city that is surrounded by two stone walls. There is an outer wall, that has a few pieces still remaining, and an inner wall where most of the current town ... read more
