There ought to be an iphone app that tells airlines what your preferences are. For example, somehow Delta knew that I prefer aisle seats (except when Alex is with me and then I definitely need an aisle). But Delta clearly didn't know that I DON'T prefer a window in the row before the exit row. I like to put my chair back, but it was impossible. Shouldn't there be some sort of consciousness that this means that when the person in front of me puts their chair back, I get dangerously close to head trauma during turbulence? It should be a domino effect upwards so that if I can't lean back, then the person in front of me can't lean back and so on. Despite the perilously close seat to my almost-asleep face, I managed to ... read more

Ok, so I've been super, well perhaps not super, sick for the last two-three days and havn't really left the hostle. I went to Leonburg the other day and when I got there I realized that this was the sort of town that you needed a car to get around. The whole place is quite beautiful, the whole city is built like Tiburon, but no ocean. Does that make any sence? Yeah sick urban hiking didn't sound like my kind of a good time. Back onto the train and off to the store to get my sick ass some tea. I've been in bed for the remainder of the time. Luckly the hostle I'm at I got a single room. So I've got a TV, little table, and sorage thingie. It's a nice little set up, ... read more

So after having all of a day and a half in München, which seems more like the place to go for a base then leave from there for day trips, and seeing Erwin for a little while I left for Stuttgart this morning. I'm not actually staying in the city, but it is really close. I'm freckin sick though, and trying to figure out how to read the directions for the medicine I got at the Apotek this afternoon. I've got an appartment all to myself though. I didn't know that at all, Hope it all goes well. Time's up. Love ya guys,# I#m having some tea and going to bed, at 2pm ... read more

I made it! I can't get internet on my computer so I'm on Veronika's and German keyboards are really weird. If I mess something up, that's why. I landed on time zestrerdaz. It was a little rough, a few of the overhead compatments popped open if that tells zou anzthing. Bz the waz, the z and y are backward, sorrz. We took the Autobahn to Veronika's house. We were doing 100 mph and getting passed like we were standing still. Tons of cool cars here. It makes me laugh that Detriot's European cars look better than a lot of the American models in mz opinion. We went to a prettz sweet castle thats 1000 zears old and then to a town called Kirchiem Unter Teck that is prettz much textbook German. Everzthing is awesome so far. ... read more

Hallo und willkommen! The school schedule insisted that I must arrive in Tübingen by August 12th, as there was a meeting that afternoon. As there were few flights which would take me there early enough to hit that meeting, I thought I'd just go for a cheaper flight a couple of days earlier and use that extra time to adjust to Germany on my own terms. I booked my flight, hotels, and hostel stays in advance. It helps if you can find some bus route information before you try to get to these places, by the way. I arrived in Stuttgart only to find that it was raining. A rather nice German couple gave me an umbrella and I was soon on my way to, I'm ashamed to admit, a taxi. I say that I'm ashamed ... read more

The flight over was the smoothest I’ve ever flown, I’m sure Bea had everything to do with it. We had a great hot breakfast and landed on time. We breezed through the security check point and found the rental car counter. I picked up the car; they gave us an automatic VW and we met up with Bea and said our last good buys. Lori and I loaded the car she jumped in the navigator’s seat and I got into the pilot seat with all intensions to take us out of Frankfurt. We promptly got lost! Once the navigator and pilot synchronize their frequencies the VW was heading toward Worms. We arrived at Worms quickly found a parking spot and took off to explore the city center. Worms dates back to 400 AD, the city was ... read more

Well Lori and I have discussed going to see the Tour De France since we both watched it when she was in the 3rd grade. A lot of issues have always stood in the way but this year it looked liked the stars aligned and we’re doing it. We left early to go to the Orlando airport knowing we wouldn’t get on the first flight. Well we got seats on the first flight and we were in Atlanta by 11:00. We quickly headed to the Delta departing flight boards to see which gate we were to leave out of and our flight was not yet updated. I told Lori it’s in “Concourse E” my favorite place when I travel through Atlanta. Lori quickly corrected me saying no it’s laving from “Concourse T” look at your boarding ... read more

Today was combination travel day and Stuttgart exploration. We gave ourselves some extra time to sleep in (which is a weird concept on its own, as anyone who knows us will understand. Jet lag does some odd stuff to you. :) ) Got ready to go, packed up, etc, then we headed down to the continental breakfast. Once again, I enjoyed my Nutella and croissant. Once we had checked out, we headed out of town on the way to Stuttgart. It's a pretty good drive, but the view was wonderful. Germany occasionally experiences this really cool weather phenomenon where the early morning fog freezes on the trees, so it looks like fairies have come in overnight and spun delicate ice frosting all over them. It is at moments like this when you start to understand why ... read more

So! From Prague our route begins to change a little - we decided that as we were getting bored of just doing European city after city and they were all blending together, we would continue on to Stuttgart to stay with Mim's aunt and uncle, and then head down to James' parents house in the south of France, near Montpellier for a week of relaxation. We went to Stuttgart via Munich, where our train never made it to the station due to some accident on the line and Alice's German was tested to the limit (i.e. we found some bilingual americans who translated for us haha), and we arrived at Huttenstrasse at around 8.00pm. We were very warmly welcomed by John and Helen, Mim's cousins, and her aunt Catherine, whilst her uncle Christoph was still at ... read more
