I made a point of getting to the Santa Maria Novella train station so I could find out what platform my train was coming in on and more importantly if it was on time. I found the platform but when I got the latest updates I found that my train was delayed coming in from Roma. I asked around and then discovered that the train workers were on strike down in Roma so all trains going out of Roma to other parts of Italy were delayed and in some cases cancelled. I was a little concerned about that because I absolutely had to get to Bologna so I could catch my plane to Frankfurt. There was little I could do besides wait so that's what I choose to do. I didn't stray too far in the ... read more

(deutsch weiter unten) With my mum celebrating her 66 birthday, it was time to visit my hometown Stuttgart again over the weekend. It was a nice feeling to hit the road again with our old, extremely cheap but somehow unstable car - it was like travelling again, at least for a few hours. It was a tough weekend for travelling as it was snowing, snowing, snowing and snowing. Even the main roads were covered with snow. Wow, it has been a long time since we have had that much snow in Stuttgart. We had a nice family dinner for the birthday celebration (happy birthday mum!) and met a lot of friends. Hey, that was nice to see you all again! And like all birthday parties, we had too much wine, too much food and did not ... read more

There is some fabulous food and drinks around this city. We love to eat, drink, and to try new foods so this is the perfect place. We just have to up the workouts so we dont gain too much weight while were here. I'll be updating this page frequently as I like to take pics of fabulous meals...... The first photos are from a greek restaurant just a few train stops away on Plieninger Strasse on the U3. Walk toward the shops and you will see the blue and white sign on the left on the corner of the street. They also have a small hotel there. We had some beers and each got a nice salat. Then we shared a meat platter. It was HUGE and delish. We also got free Ouzo from the owner and ... read more

After the Mercedes museum we had to do the long walk back to the station to take the train to the other museum. We actually wanted to go to the dinosaur museum where Ute told us there was the remains of the only pregnant dinosaur in the world. I wanted to see this as I was always under the impression that dinosaurs hatched from eggs and were not born alive, but no go for that as we ended up in the wrong museum. Kris was not too thrilled as the dinosaur museum was her choice. Kee also really wanted to go to the hot springs spa called Mineralbad along the way, but I said that it was too cold and that they would catch a cold going from one extreme temperature to another and besides they ... read more

Hello All! Ive been slacking greatly with the travelblog. I do apologize..... Nick and I have made numerous trips out and about town to check out the sites. I will post pics and try to put the story with the pics...... To start...one of my favorite views and places to walk is the Schlossplatz. It's size is remarkable and even in winter is beautiful. Almost all the pictures I have seen of the square in the spring/summer time. Green grass, flowers, people sitting at tables. Now in these winter photos of mine it won't be quite as green but still a site to see. Now in the centre is a tall slender Jubilee Column that was donated by the Estates in 1841. Their are also two identical cup fountains on each side of the column with ... read more

As promised here is the blog on our short visit to the Tv Tower and multiple visits to the Indoor Market. First up is our visit to the TV Tower. It was built between 1954-1956. It rises up from the summit of Hoher Bopser in Degerloch in south Stuttgart. It is the first concrete and steel TV tower in the world. It stretches 217 Meters high. The top portion has a broadcasting studio and cafe. Luckily there is an elevator to make the trip up that much easier. Once outside we almost blew away and froze to death at the same time. Still definitely worth the 5 Euro cost to get up there. The view was stunning and I look forward to visiting again in the summer. Unfortunately the cafe was beyond packed since everyone had ... read more

Kee writing today: This was my highlight of Germany - the Mercedes Benz Museum! Mom and Kris were not too keen to go here, but I was so extremely excited to see all the cars. We took two trains to get there and when we jumped off the train we had a looooong walk to the museum but it was actually kinda interesting coz on our way we saw these boys doing graffiti on the wall - radical dude:) We arrived at the museum and it was huuuuuge. The building is only three years old and very modern in design. It actually had a very futuristic look about it. I couldn't wait to spend my day touring this place learning about the beginnings of mechanized transportation. We had to follow a queue, which as we were ... read more

We drove through a scenic countryside from Luxembourg into Germany and found our host Ute's house pretty easily in Stuttgart, but I think I got the arrival times mixed up again and we arrived to a locked house!!! We waited for a while not knowing whether Ute was gone to work or if she had forgotten about us. Jonny waited with us for a little bit, but he had to leave as he had to drive 4 hours back to Lux. We tried sitting on the step outside the house but it was too cold, so we decided to leave our bags on the step and go look for somewhere warm to sit. The girls wanted to continue sitting on the step outside Ute's house as they found Wi-Fi there but hell no I wanted somewhere ... read more

Hello everyone! Incase any of you dont know..I have made it to Germany safe and sound. I arrived Friday morning and flew directly in Stuttgart Airport. The flight wasn't too bad. We actually arrived about 30 min early. Now we were on an older plane. It only had the big tv with the little ones in each aisle. I really was hoping for the one that has the screen on each headrest but no luck. The man two seats down said it is very rare to get a new plane on the Atlanta to Stuttgart flight. I'll remember for future reference since he said he flies it almost monthly for work. Nick was able to rent a car for the weekend so he met me at the airport. A very nice Audii. I told him maybe ... read more

I have been meaning for a while to write about our recent trip to the Czech Republic as well as to Southern Germany. My cousin Hana lives in Moravske Budejovice, a city in the Southern Moravia region of the Czech Republic. Sylvia's best friend Janka and her husband Fred live north of Stuttgart (the home of Porsche and Mercedes cars) in a city called Ludwigsburg. Our first stop on the trip was to visit my relatives in Moravia. This region is from where many of my relatives on both my father and mothers' sides of the family emigrated. My dad's family came from near Brno while my mother's family came from farther west, near where my cousin Hana lives today. Last summer, Sylvia and I visited Hana and I was able to take her to several ... read more
