So I have finally decided to do one of these travel blog things. I don't really know if it is or will be worth reading, but I'm writing it anyway. I'm only really now starting travelling, although you could say that I have been for seven months already. Well, perhaps not travelling, but at least foregoing some sort of an adventure. At the moment, however, I am no longer in Stuttgart and have actually not been there for almost two weeks now. Instead I am sitting at a computer at my uncles in Switzerland, writing and looking out the window at snow covered peaks such as Mt Pilatus and the Eiger, which from here, climbint it looks like no problem... The Sepulchral Chapel on Wuerttemberg Mountain is the Swabian version of the Taj Mahal in India - well, kind of at least :-). The chapel is dedicated to Queen Katharina of Wuerttemberg. She died unexpectedly at the age of 30 on 9 January 1819. She was the wife of King William I of Wuerttemberg and the daughter of Russian Czar Paul and his wife Maria Feodorowna. Queen Katharina was very popular with the people of Wuerttemberg: She founded for example several charitable institutions. Her death was therefore received with great sadness and dismay among her subjects. Her last wish was that her final resting place be on the 411 Meters high Wuerttemberg Mountain, which is surrounded by vineyards and is overlooking Stuttgart. I took the ICE from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and then had an easy change to Stuttgart. The ICE reached 300 KmPH once we were in Germany. This would have been worth a picture had I not just been on the MagLev in Shanghai going 431KmPH. I met my friend Nieves in the train station and then wandered the downtown area while she had a class. We had a great dinner at an African restaurant near her house. The next day we went to the Daimler museum and to a small town Esslingen with her boyfriend Marcus. We went there because it is a cute town, but it turned out that they were having a festival and there were many groups of people dressed in costumes. Day 9 - 21st February 1972 This is likely to be our last free breakfast and Sylvia's mother did us proud with an extra treat - some traditional Baden-Wurttemberg cake. Although cold, the day started in brilliant sunshine. I walk with Sylvia to find a decent place to start hitch hiking. The first lift took me to the Autobahn and second to the northern exit road to Ulm (the wrong side of town) but by then it was already 3pm and there was a huge change in the weather - a very cold mist. Michael and Heather arrived at the same point at about 5pm so you can see how few people were prepared to provide lifts.
