After a Coca Light and my usual postcards, I was off to see the brand new Porsche Museum. The only thing I knew about it was that it was all the way on the other side of town. It was getting later in the day, and if I would be able to accomplish my goal of seeing both car museums, I realized I needed to get a move on now. Well, I got back to the bahnhof and found the next train easy enough. The train station in Stuttgart is probably 4 or 5 levels. It is just a much bigger place on the inside than it would appear as you look at it. I guess that is the case with the Mercedes Benz museum as well. So, I caught the S6 train and within about ... read more

After cramming in yet another weekend long class in Advanced Seminar in Financial Case Studies, I decided a nice couple day trip to the Mercedes Benz Musuem, as well the brand new Porsche Museum would be in order. Both sights are, luckily for me, in the same city, Stuttgart, Germany. I wanted to get an early to Stuttgart so I could perhaps see at least one Museum and then do some other sight seeing. However, as luck would have it: as I left my Logistics class, the professor said, "See you tomorrow!!" See you tomorrow?? We don't have class tomorrow!!!! Well, evidently, he had sent out as email moving some classes around. Which, I never saw, much less read. I really need to check the Em-Strasbourg email more. It is just that you have to go ... read more

The life on the road was really tireing this day. It was heavy rain the whole day. Lots of water on a really worn surface.Traffic was busy as usual with caravans of trucks that you have to overtake and at the same time watch out in the mirror for the high speed travellers this roads are full of. Rain or not. I was knackered after four days behind the wheel in mostly rain. And the early mornings... You know, you have to get up so you can get breakfast before 10 a clock. When do I get to sleep? We shortened this day trip, and asked our GPS about some gasthauses and hotels in the neigbourhood. We searched among a lot of gasthaus in the countryside, most of them closed. When it got dark we finally ... read more

Getting from Amman to Germany is a breeze. Takes only a few hours in a comfortable plane where you get food and drink. Well ok there was one drawback. All flights to Europe seem to leave at the ungodly hour of 3am and so did ours. Enough of the whingeing and on with the story. Kellie always wanted to experience a real winter with snow and all that and I was absolutely against it as winters for me means, freezing cold, rain, slush, being inside all the time and gray skies. So we flew into Germany and to my surprise and Kellies delight we landed in Stuttgart which was powdered in the white stuff. At the airport we were greeted by a friend of mine which took the bags of us and went back to work ... read more

Last Friday afternoon we hopped on a Luftansa Airlines flight to Stuttgart, Germany to see a friend of mine from college, Annie, and her husband Seth! Annie and I studied in England together and traveled around Europe but have lost touch since college so it was great to reconnect. She and Seth have been living in Stuttgart for the last 2 1/2 yrs for his job and have loved it! Jason was excited to meet Annie and also excited for the German food. I'm not a huge kraut and sausage fan but I was looking forward to eating anything NOT Italian. Seth and Annie picked us up from the airport on Friday night and we went to their apartment to settle in and then went to a great German restaurant and enjoyed some Flammkuchen and I ... read more

The main purpose of our trip to Germany was to visit Sylvia's good friend Janka. She and Sylvia were the only two Slovaks at the University of Nebraska Kearney, which is where I met both of them. They have known each other for 12 years and went to high school together in Kosice. Janka is recently married to Fred, and they live in Ludwigsburg which is very near Stuttgart. The one idea I had about this region of Germany was expensive cars, and it became clear quickly that it is very true. Germans in this region take their cars seriously. Stuttgart is of course, the home of Porshe, Mercedes, Daimler, and Maybach. They call this region the 'cradle of the automobile,' since this is where the car (and the motorcycle) was invented. Fred and Janka were ... read more

We left Germany and travelled on to Austria. Our first stop is Salzburg. We didn’t exactly do much the day we arrived. The next day, it was Jacks birthday. We went for a huge walk round Salzburg. We were planning to go to a restaurant for lunch, but we were annoyed to find that it didn’t open till 3:00pm. When it finally opened, we decided to make it a lunch cross dinner. Linner or dunch? It was delicious! We sung happy birthday to Jack. A nearby table heard us and sung along. They were beautiful singers. A man even bought us two marshmallow ice creams and a chocolate umbrella. Yummy! At the end, we had a short play at a playground. Also in Salzburg, we were walking across a small bridge. We saw a little mouse. ... read more

Vom 10.
