I am a student currently attending the California State University at Long Beach. I will be studying abroad for a year in Germany, beginning on August 12th.

Hallo und willkommen! The school schedule insisted that I must arrive in Tübingen by August 12th, as there was a meeting that afternoon. As there were few flights which would take me there early enough to hit that meeting, I thought I'd just go for a cheaper flight a couple of days earlier and use that extra time to adjust to Germany on my own terms. I booked my flight, hotels, and hostel stays in advance. It helps if you can find some bus route information before you try to get to these places, by the way. I arrived in Stuttgart only to find that it was raining. A rather nice German couple gave me an umbrella and I was soon on my way to, I'm ashamed to admit, a taxi. Hallo und willkommen! On the days prior to my journey, I had to pack not only that which I would take but also that which I could not possibly take. Books, games, CDs, and other miscellaneous items were tucked into boxes for storage. Clothing which I had not worn in a year or longer were given away to charity or were tossed if terribly damaged. I packed more clothing than I probably require, a first aid kit, some hygiene supplies, a couple books, and other such things as what people would normally bring. I also packed things which I recommend other students pack, but realize most people forget to bring: A System Recovery CD for the computer, bank policy forms and phone numbers, insurance information, passport photocopies, and instruction manuals for the electronic devices I brought. ... read more

Hallo und willkommen, First, I'd like to apologize for the lateness of my posts. These posts will be backdated and perhaps routinely edited as I attempt to catch up with the most current events. That being said, I will follow the advice of a logician and mathematician, Lewis Carroll: "Start at the beginning, go through to the end and then stop." It will be less confusing this way, I think. There are many concerns for the prospective study abroad applicant. There are many applications to fill out, some of which must be signed, and that is only the beginning.
