Mon 6th Feb - Fri 10th Feb Spent a few days in Adelaide on either side of the KI tour exploring the beach at Glenelg, reading books, and just generally chilling out! Weds 8th Feb - Thurs 9th Feb Made a 2 day trip with another tour group over to Kangaroo Island. It’s a fantastic place to see wildlife in the wild! There are roos jumping all over the place, koalas chilling out in trees along the road, Met mad Irish chick Maria who was very amusing but quite scary in a lunatic way!! She provided much of the tour bus’ entertainment for the 2 days! First stop of the day was to a place called Pennington Bay with lots of sand and sea!! Then to Prospect Hill, we had to climb and exhausting 512 steps ... read more

We are now in Australia after what seemed like a two day trip. Spent last night looking around the main centre of Adelaide and I hate to say it but it looks absolutely bloody marvellous. Longer update to follow once we have done a few more things - last night we just found a few bars one of which had a live band! Also on Mondays they give away 50 free steak and chips from 7 o'clock. And they seemed to strugggle to be rid of them! No photos. Ken and Linda... read more

2nd January 2006 HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL! Update for you! At last I hear you cry! Well, here goes, hope it’s not too boring for you! I have completed a Thai cookery course & now have a cupboard full of ingredients it will take ages to use up! But it was good fun & I’ve gained a few good recipes from it. Even though in the process, I managed to burn my brand new wok! Have also completed my ‘Learn to Row’ course - good fun, but more difficult than it looks! Got on better as a team in the last 2 weeks, though I was struggling to do everything, i.e. using the slide correctly, feathering the blade etc. Not easy! Once my blade got struck in the water & I had great ... read more

This is another local walk that Dan and I did alone as Peter went off celebrating his birthday (again) by playing golf with visiting friends from the West Coast. The walk was around West Lakes and over Delfin Island, a man-made housing development (circa 1975) constructed from the swamps of the Barker inlet. It is an easy walk, about 5.5 km, originally shown to us by Willy, and it would take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours depending on the age of any children accompanying you. Most of the walk is around the lake, however private property means that you need to head into the streets at several places to make the journey. You can find out more about this area and the Port Adelaide waterways here "Urban Ecological Communities 3: The Barker Inlet-Port River Estuary" ... read more

January 13th And the rollercoaster exploration continues of course… Ups and downs, valleys and mountains, waves and gullies. “This too shall pass”... January 20th Mostly waves of excitement these past days. Remember to ask for what you want ~ Ask the universe and the universe shall provide ~ ...haunted by these inspirational gleanings. My angels love me and love to put my mind back on track. ‘Focus’ they say. ‘Think about what you want, not what you don’t want. Guard your thoughts carefully, because they create your experiences… We always choose our thoughts - every moment. Our thoughts always have an effect, and there are no neutral thoughts. One half-second before you hold a thought, you decide to hold it. So, with practice, you can learn to monitor and alter your thoughts. This is the equivalent ... read more

My journey to Adelaide was long but not too uncomfortable - thank goodness! I arrived at 6ish in the morning and instantly was faced with the dilemma of finding my hostel - why do i always leave it to the last minute at silly-o'clock in the morning - hopefully i'll soon learn?! Luckily for me, the coach station had leaflets on some of the hostels, and mine was there..YAY...and to top it off, it was only a short walking distance away..phew!!! I had just enough time to get to my hostel, check in and have a quick shower etc, before i was being picked up for a Wine Tasting Tour in the Barossa Valley - it was going to be a LONG, LONG day!!! Although i was feeling extremely tired, i still managed to get a ... read more

Next day, toured around the Barossa Valley, approx an hour from Adelaide centre. Had a great day, and it's suprising how many massive wine exporters are based here, lots of the UK's favourites: Wolf Blass, Penfolds, Lehmann Bros, Jacob's Creek, just to name the ones we made it to: Wolf Blass. Fab new cellar door and marketing suite, very corporate and caters for large groups and tours. We got a really personal service, as we arrived just as a large group left. There is a good exhibition of the man himself, Wolf Blass, who is now local to the area - still lives on the property. Spen bought a nice bottle of Shiraz. Penfolds A smaller, more cosy cellar door, but again, really nice service and attention given to us. Learnt about the relevance of Bin ... read more

Adelaide is a nice, compact City, with pretty good shopping, bars, things to do. They don't make the most of their river though. We spend the first day wandering around getting our barings, and in the evening get tickets for the Moonlight Cinema in Adelaide Botanical Gardens. We took wine, a picnic, blankets and hired 2 waterproof beanbags to sit on. The film was Chasing Amy, a cult classic starring Ben Affleck. Great evening. 16th - Debs needed a culture injection, so went to the South Australian Art Gallery which had some really interesting English and European art from early settlers, as well as Australian/Aborigony pieces. Spen went trainer shopping (say no more!) but we met for lunch in the gallary and had a nice snack. ... read more

I headed out of Melbourne and on to the beautifull Great Ocean Road, we went throgh stunning coastal towns and ended up watching the sunset over the 12 apostles with a few glasses of wine! The following morning, after viewing part of the 12 apostles including Loch Ard Gorge, London Bridge and Razor Back I decided the best place to view them was from the sky, so for $60 Aus I had an 8 minute trip in a helicopter - very good fun but boy did it go fast! After lunch we headed up into the Grampian hills to a place called Hall's Gap via the Ontos Sky Tree Walk and did a 6Km walk up to the Pinnacle Point - very stunning views at the top but boy was it hot! The following day we ... read more
