A cruise down the Murray River was on the agenda for today, but I quickly began to realise why the company organising the tour was called Prime Mini-Tours. It wasn't a boast about the tour being prime amongst a group of lesser tours, more an indication that most people going on it were in the prime of life. Other people fooled by this were a Japanese guy and a Dutch family. On the way out of Adelaide the driver indicated the O-bahn, a cunningly engineered "railroad" on which normal city buses can get out to the suburbs at high speed, and with no traffic hold-up. Some sort of buffer flicks up from the side of the bus and then locks into guide rails on either side of the O-bahn, meaning the bus follows the direction of ... read more

Adelaide as a city seems to be very similar to Melbourne, in that it is walkable, clean, and in possession of everything you could want from a major conurbation. And though the city itself isn't bulging with singular tourist attractions, it's a good base for forays into the surrounding countryside - I did a Murray River cruise and Barossa Valley wine-tasting tour from here (I'll write separate entries for these.) I found an extremely good selection of Italian restaurants, all with a complement of local wines. The hostel had a very similar turnover of guests to Melbourne, and I ended up being one of the longest-staying guests again. Most of the people I spoke to were of the opinion that Adelaide was boring, hence their rapid moving on. My favourite dorm-mates were a pair of Scottish ... read more

Hi lovelies! well, after three days on another tour bus, we've made it safe an sound to Adelaide. Our time in Melbourne was great! We spent nearly a week with Benji's second cousins the Kohns. We had such a blast hanging out with our Australian family. Maurie and Fay have four children: Naomi, Simon, Josh, and Benji (married to Ella). They are all amazing people who we were so glad to be able to get to know during our short stay with them. Definate highlights of our stay were the Australian footy game on AnZAC day, and overall fun times with the family :-) Needless to say, we were also fed amazingly well. We also managed to see Rabbi Guevertz (from Temple Bat yahm) and, yes Edie and Papa, we contacted your friends in Melbourne though ... read more

Alrighty, all packed up ready to jump on that big bird out of here. Just sitting down knocking off a bottle of Rockfords, watching a bit of Air Crash Investigations - it's important to know what to do in case something goes wrong - so far I have learnt that all you can do is sit in your seat with a concerned look on your face, but that hasn't seemed to help anyone in the past. So, on the first flight out tomorrow to Sydney then a couple of hours of swanning around in the Qantas Club before making our way to Hong Kong just in time for Michael to have dinner with his Grandma and Grandpa. The next day will be a big one for Michael because he'll get to meet all his heroes at ... read more

Went to 'Adelaide's Biggest Easter Egg Hunt' with my Adelaide family at the weekend. It turned out to be such a bright sunny day, which was great as we had brought chairs, blankets and an esky full of yummy food :) I was unfortunately too old to enter the egg hunt...I've never actually been on an easter egg hunt before come to think of it... We all went into the city afterwards to get some tea. Steve and I bought a pie floater each. They are THE best! A gorgeous meat pie swamped in pea soup...ahhh it was so good! You can only get them in South Australia as well and from this special pie cart in the city. They are even mentioned in all the TNT and British Balls (free backpacker magazines) issues... Friday night ... read more

After 4 years finally get to meet namesake Michael Treloar, only to find out he was in Helston on his first visit to Cornwall last July - not a hundred yards from where we live. We could have passed on the street and not known it! Have been to Mooloolaba and met his Uncle Les (Leslie Treloar!) and Aunty Peggy, hope to meet his Dad Harry shortly. ... read more

Adelaide City, oh so pretty...it's like a country town, nothing like Melbourne or Sydney. Alot smaller and prettier :) I'm staying with friends up in the hills. Their house is beautiful surrounded by 10 acres of land...with sheep, dogs, cats, chickens...and 2 wonderful children who I've been playing 'heads down thumbs up' with :) The couple who I'm staying with have also put me on the insurance of their car, so I've had the freedom to drive and explore adelaide. They're so kind to do that for me... The first day with the car I was quite nervous, as I hadn't driven in ages and had only really just passed my test...and the car is an automatic which I'm not used to either! Anyway, it was raining for the first day so I drove lots of ... read more
