It was Dan's choice of walk today and he chose the Adelaide Botanical Gardens. These gardens are located on North Terrace in Adelaide city. We spent 3 hours wandering around these lovely gardens and I managed to take 94 pictures! A selection of them are saved here. We started out walk in the park behind the zoo (access from Hackney Road). On Sunday the car parking is free - and of course there is no charge to enter the gardens. There is a fee to get into the Rainforest Conservatory, but more about that later. On the North west corner of the park is where we entered. From here we went to the kiosk and bought lunch and headed past the Duck pond and in front of the Palm House for our picnic. We headed inside ... read more

Hello everyone from Adelaide! After finally leaving Alice Springs on Sunday, I began the 2 500km drive down to Adelaide. Although there wasnt much to see on the way down, what we did see was just out of this world - despite the 4am-5am starts!!! We started our trip to Kings Canyon which was really impressive. Ive done so much stuff its difficult to remember some things but ive taken hundreds of pictures!! What I do remember though is the big red rock - Uluru. Its easy to see why the rock is so spiritual to the Aborigines. Ive never seen anything like it to be honest, especially at sunrise and sunset - wow!!! Some of the colours and the way the rock changed was an incredible site to see. I also climbed the rock - ... read more

Now this was the dark horse. Neither of us knew what to expect from this city, but we were both pleasantly surprised. Enough to say we stayed here for 9 nights!!! The weather was fantastic, along with the caravan park, and the 2 nearby villages/towns, which were very popular. Lots of lovely food and drink were consumed....to the point we had to remind ourself that we are on a budget as backpackers. It didn't stop and spoil Lorraines choice of Fillet Steak off the menu, rinsed down with 3 bottles of lovely Barossa Valley Chardonays (the Valleys werew 15 mins away) :) Not the stereotype backpackers I have to say!! None-the-less, a thoroughly enjoyable stay!!!... read more

... read more

Introduction This bushwalk was in Onkaparinga Conservation Park on the southern side of Adelaide. It is a tough walking park as the river, over millions of years, has caused the valley to have very steep sides. There is often water here, even in the height of summer, which makes for good animal and bird spotting. So this park is one to visit with older children and only with appropriate footwear. We have visited this park a few times and it ranks high on Peter's favourite parks, but this particular walk was new to us. How to get there... From South road, heading South, take the expressway as far as Honey Pot road. Using a street directory, make your way East to Penney's Hill Road, then Upper Penney's Hill Road, which terminates on Piggott Range Road. The ... read more

Hi folks. we have been in Adelaide for nearly a week now and we are, surprise, surprise, having a wonderful time. Just to get the Adelaide jokes out of the way; we arrived on 'Adelaide' flight; and 'Adelaide' odds against that happenning! Sorry. We spent the first couple of days getting our bearings - not too difficult in this wonderful city which is very compact and built on the American block system - and also looking for better, cheaper accommodation. This we did, finding a motel that reduced their rates to twenty quid a night when we asked for a discount if we stayed for seven days. We went to the beautiful beach suburb of Glenelg on Wednesday. We liked it so much we found yet another motel and booked in for the following week for ... read more
