This past week marked week one of our two week “fall” break (spring break back in the States). Ash n I took a trip to Cairns and Sydney with Misha and Des (two girls from Concordia) and Berto (Des’s roommate at Uni from Mexico). It was crazy fun, and I will never forget it! Friday, March 26th Des, Ash, Berto, Misha and I headed for the airport in two cars, and arrived with a good hour to spare. We creeped everyone out in the airport by yelling, “UHUHUH” like Lorraine from MadTV does. It’s just what we do. The flight itself was relatively uneventful. Misha had the row to herself in front of Ashley and I, so Ashley sat with Misha (with a seat in between them) and I did the same with some crabby 50 ... read more

I have now officially been here for one month. The rain finally let up for one day so that I could have an amazing Australian adventure! Before I tell you about that though, let me just say that it has still been raining non-stop. All Ash n I did Saturday was lay around. I finally got some homework done (a first, I must say), and then we made some soup and watched CSI all night. When Mitchie got home from working at Eagle Boys—the amazing local pizza place—he brought us pizza, garlic bread, and dessert pizza. Mitchie is our favorite Aussie boy. No contest. On to Sunday. A friend of mine named Desiree had been taken by her roommates to a nearby rainforest with an amazing waterfall that you can swim in. We had been waiting ... read more

Not a whole lot has been going on...it's just been raining non-stop. Yesterday was the first semi-sunny day we'd had in a week! It poured for about 3 days straight without stopping, and then rained on and off until yesterday. I guess this is the most rain Queensland has had in ages! Some towns are flooding, but thankfully not here. Which is good, because I left Fargo so that I wouldn't have to deal with that this year! You're probably asking yourself, "What is there to do in Australia when it rains?". The answer to that question is simple. NOTHING. At Concordia, I had two jobs and more homework than I could handle, so rain or shine I was always busy. Here? Not so much. I planned on sitting by the pool most days, but that's ... read more

I have a few random, but great, stories that I forgot to mention! The first day we were here, we headed to the pool after our long Woolies adventure. After the pool, I decided it was a good idea to throw my towel over my closet door to let it dry. Turns out, that was a terrible idea. I had completely forgotten about the proximity of the ceiling fan to the closet door, and I whacked my hand against the fan! It immediately started dripping blood (no exaggeration), and I ran to Ashleys. I freaked out once there, and that happened to be the first time meeting her roommates friend Shelly, as well as Ashley's other roommate Aleks (I found out last night that the next day, he asked if the "hysterical American" was around). After ... read more

Hi again :) Not too much has happened since my last update, except that I have now been to all of my classes. So, not very exciting. However, I now know all of my roommates! Sarah: An Aussie from Brisbane who was here for two days before I finally met her. She seems really nice so far :) Fanny: She's from France and we haven't really talked a whole lot yet, as I feel a lot of our conversations have been lost in translation. Rudi: The super nice German boy right across the hall from me. He's extremely funny and very talkative. I lucked out and basically got really nice roommates (even though we don't really talk a whole lot yet). I am a surrogate roommate to Ashley's apartment, and I love her two roommates Aleks ... read more

Hello all! Thursday, February 11th, I embarked on the trip of a lifetime with my best friend Ashley. We are currently at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia, studying abroad through our college in Minnesota. This first entry might be a bit long-winded, but that's only because so much has happened in the short week that I've been gone. First, let me explain how the trip HERE went. First stop? Minneapolis, MN. After hearing our flight was delayed from Minneapolis to Dallas, they found us new flights and Ashley and I boarded at 2 p.m. Once in Dallas, we waited for our next plane for 4 hours! For those of you who don't know this, Dallas had a crazy snowstorm that threw off a ton of flights (because they aren't prepared for snow ... read more

This whole trip has been so crazy already! Michelle and I left Blacksburg on Thursday morning, my 21st birthday, and headed for Virginia Beach. I had all of my packing to do, so we spent most of the day doing that and hanging out until we started getting ready for dinner. We went to dinner at Cobalt Grill with mom and dad, and I had Sauvignon Blanc for the second night in a row mmmm, and of COURSE, we had the world famous Sugar Plum chocolate chocolate cake with chocolate chips all around the outside! The cake said “Happy 21st Amy and Michelle” and it was wonderful! We got some rest, woke up at 7, and got on the road headed for Dulles International. Dad and mom drove us, we hit a little traffic, and made ... read more

When we knew we were heading to Woodford again this year we were looking forward to catching up with our long time family friends "The Macks". Christmas Eve we set off for their place near Mooloolaba, and stayed overnight to have Christmas morning with them also. It was fantastic to hang out with them! Christmas eve we had a BBQ, and their daughter took my little guys for a walk to see the lights around. In the morning we loaded the trailer with the BBQ, tables, chairs and plenty of food and headed off to Mooloolaba beach. There we met up with a heap of other families who didnt have any other family to spend Christmas with and we all had breaky and played in the beautiful water. I have to say it was the nicest ... read more

07/12/2009 - We checked out of Colonial Village YHA for a second time then caught the shuttle bus to the Greyhound terminal. Just as we were leaving the owner ran up to us and thanked us for staying, then offered us some free candy, this hostel and its staff truly were outstanding. It was a good few hours before we reached the Caloundra turnoff where we were dropped off. The taxi we had booked earlier came as soon as the bus left, perfect timing, we took it to my Grandma’s house in Pelican Waters. It was good to see her again, it had been a few years since I was last here. For the rest of the afternoon we caught up and settled in for a relatively relaxing week here. 08/12/2009 - Another relaxing day really, ... read more
