The Waterfall
The "big" waterfall that we swam in. You couldn't jump off the top because it was too shallow and there were too many rocks. I have now officially been here for one month. The rain finally let up for one day so that I could have an amazing Australian adventure!
Before I tell you about that though, let me just say that it has still been raining non-stop. All Ash n I did Saturday was lay around. I finally got some homework done (a first, I must say), and then we made some soup and watched CSI all night. When Mitchie got home from working at Eagle Boys—the amazing local pizza place—he brought us pizza, garlic bread, and dessert pizza. Mitchie is our favorite Aussie boy. No contest.
On to Sunday.
A friend of mine named Desiree had been taken by her roommates to a nearby rainforest with an amazing waterfall that you can swim in. We had been waiting for a nice day so that she could take us, and Sunday afternoon it cleared up and we were ready for action.
Des, Ashley, Misha, Mitchie and I grabbed our suits and towels and caught the bus to a nearby town called Buderim (Bud-rim). Once in Buderim, we walked about 15 minutes down the to the Buderim Forest Park.

Slightly Smaller Waterfall
This was in the area we were exploring. If you put your camera in a certain mode, it makes the water look like mist. took us the long way, only telling us it was the long way AFTERWARDS because she was fairly confident we wouldn’t want to walk back up that way on the way back. She was pretty right about that.
It was so gorgeous! We were in the middle of a rainforest that had been rained on for days in a row, so everything was extremely green—and extremely wet and muddy. The best thing that the rain contributed to was the waterfall. Des said that the last time she had been there (about 4 weeks ago), it was puddles, and the area where the waterfall fell into wasn’t as full. While we were there, there were streams everywhere and the waterfall was pounding down.
I felt like Pocahontas (in the 21st century, armed with a digital camera) while we were climbing over rocks barefooted in our swimsuits. It was so pretty! The pictures I’ll put on here don’t even do it justice. We swam around and explored there for over an hour I believe. The whole trip took us from 2:30-6:30 (including a stop to Woolworths for calling cards, cereal, and hot crossed buns).
Oh, and they DO have

I don't go anywhere here without this girl. mosquitoes here. Let me tell you what. It's not to the scale Minnesota has them, but you really feel it when there are ten on you at once. Not fun.
After that, Ashley and I made dinner, and then got ready to head for O’Malley’s. I thought it was going to be super lame because the bus was only half full on the way there, and it’s usually full and then some. However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was a super fun night and I danced my booty off for about 4 hours straight. We got home around 3:30, and I went to bed at 4. This was NOT a good idea. I’ve been having massive troubles getting any sleep here and consistently wake up at 6 or 7 a.m. every morning. I didn’t sleep well at all last night. Not hard to imagine.
We were all going to skip class and go to the beach today in the event that it was sunny, but the forecast showed rain all week, and the forecast didn’t make an empty promise. It’s pouring as I write this. Still, I’m only going to one class today to ask questions about an
Walkway
I believe that's the walkway we took to get out of the rainforest. There were many people standing up there taking pictures and talking while we were swimming around like fools. assignment, because all my professors do in lecture is repeat verbatim what is on the Powerpoint that we have access to and can print before or after class. Pointless? Yes. Am I complaining? Not really.
Well, I’m outta here. I’ll leave you with one last anecdote. A lot of high schools here are called Colleges, and everyone (elementary school—high school) wears uniforms. Some are nice dresses that look like they’re straight out of Little House on the Prairie. Some are terrible shorts and polo combinations. But most of them include some form of hat—usually wide brimmed for when they’re outside during school. You can only imagine how burnt all of the little kids would get without them.
I’ll be writing again soon as my dad tells me I should start finding one interesting thing a day to write about. It might not be every day, but I’ll try to write more often.
