I can't believe Eumundi, one of my favourite places isn't on the locations list on here! The markets there are apparently the biggest in Australia! They are pretty big... Went there a few times (mainly for the free food samples!) I spent waaaaay too much money the first time on clothes!! And ginger fudge...The original markets were all products made/grown by the stallholders. There's loads of clothes, food (FREE SAMPLES, did I mention?!) and random hippyish stuff! And some good music around too. On my last day, a few of us from the hostel hired a car and went there which was a really good way to say goodbye to the sunshine coast. It was hard to leave Cotton Tree Backpackers though, it was such a family there and I had been living there for 2 ... read more

After the Glasshouse Mountains, Pip and I went to Maleny and went to Kondalilla Falls, which was absolutely beautiful and so much fun for climbing! We went again a few weeks ago with Amy and had such a great day. Photos will explain this better anyway... Maleny is a cool little hippy town, we saw some good and not-so-good live music there! The hinterland towns are a lot quieter than the coast, but the disadvantage is that the sea isn't there...... read more

I have been on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, just north of Brisbane for the last couple of months. I went there from Cairns after the Cape York trip. I went to visit my friend Amy on my way to somewhere (can't even remember where I intended to go now!) but I lost my purse in Cairns just before I got on the bus and then one thing led to another and I ended up staying there til a couple of days ago! It was great, I got a bodyboard, tried surfing (stood up once and got very battered and bruised!), had 6 different jobs, taught myself to play the guitar, went to the beach every day! My first job was for a sports marketing company, we were selling tickets to raise money for Surf Lifesavers ... read more

Hey everyone, Less than a week before i make my triumphant return to the states! But before i get into that, updates and randomness from the past few weeks. I am finished with exams! Only one more semester ever of exams. That is such a great feeling. In the last update i kind of described the setup of the examinations. Now that i have taken them i can go into a bit more detail. USC is hardcore trying to prevent cheating here. Once you enter the gym you cannot talk at all. The exams are sitting on the tables and you get a number when you walk in. There can be nothing on the table except for you pen/pencil. I couldnt have my watch or sunglasses next to me. How would i cheat with my sunglasses? ... read more

Hey everyone, First off, follow this link... Haha. How awesome is that? I am sure that most of the people who normally read this already saw that thanks to my parents. My Uni friends back home knew about it before i could tell them. But still cool. The paper had my contact information from earlier in the year when I interviewed for a soccer thing. They asked me to call them up and i talked to a guy for 20 minutes about the election, voting, Obama's future, and how i like it here. Now i never said if i was an Obama or McCain supporter, but he decided to pick one for me. Granted, he did pick correctly. Also, i didn't sign any forms saying i would be okay with my picture in the paper. Weird. ... read more

Hey everyone, Sorry i haven't updated in so long. There hasn't been that much exciting things going on up until recently. I last left you guys just after Spring Break. Before i left for Spring Break i had incredible foresight and finished any assignments that were due after spring break. So happy i did that. I ended up needing a week to recover from Spring Break and not having to freak out over assignments was a huge plus. Unfortunately, most of my friends here did not do that so the past few weeks i have been relaxing while they have been up till 2 in the am working on projects. Since everyone has been working, i have just been taking it easy. Hanging out at the beach a lot and just enjoying Oz. Last week was ... read more

After dumping much of our load in the abodes of the kids we headed off for a better look at the area surrounding Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. We have been through these areas many times before but have not taken the time to have a decent look around. Mt Glorious sits 'behind' Brisbane overlooking the city. It is good that, so far, there is a reasonable stand of bush within easy striking distance of the city centre. There are some houses, picnic areas and a road but overall the area seems to provide a pretty good example of the way the place might have looked in the past. Down the other side of the mountain we hit Esk. Pleasant little town just starting to be affected by 'incomers'. Brisbane is less than 100kms away, and ... read more

EN FRANCAIS PLUS BAS MORE PHOTOS HERE Some friendships take months or years to build. Others are obvious from the first minute you meet someone. So enters Sally in my life one May day (no pun intended) just a week before my departure from Paris. It was picnic season, Canal St Martin and Montmartre, and I had not laughed that much and that hard in a long time. And if Australia had not been on my itinerary, I probably would have added it just to visit Sally in her lovely countryside bed & breakfast, just off the Gold Coast. When we arrived at her place late in the evening, Sally had spent the whole week-end playing soccer during the day and dancing and drinking at night (I had originally planned to join the festivities, and somewhat ... read more

Just to add to my father's sleepless nights, this week Jenn, Sandra (Jenn's friend from school), and I booked our trip to Asia. We will be spending two weeks in Thailand, two weeks in Laos and a few days in Cambodia (we are just going there to see Angkor Wat) and then flying back to the Sunshine Coast. This will be a completely new experience for me and I am counting down the days till land in Bangkok. Christmas day will be spent on the beach in Krabi. New Years will be spent on the beach in Koh Phan Gnon My Birthday will be spent in Bangkok and Jenn's will be spent somewhere in Laos. I am nervous I will be terrible at negotiating prices but figure after the first time I get royally ripped off ... read more
