I am flying home so soon. The last month has gone by so fast and I do not want to leave, but miss everyone at home a lot. Enjoy some random thoughts I have about Oz and life here: Cheers to the ending of an epic adventure across the Pacific from everyone I know. Conny came back from Ayers Rock/Uluru (middle of Oz) with these Games learned in Australia 1. I can see the moon in the spoon 2. A trip around the world 3. 2 up, 2 down, 1 up 1 down I've noticed I really do hear the f word more in one day here than I usually do for a week in the U.S. For example, one day I was walking along the esplanade past the Wharf Tavern/Fridays and there were three blokes ... read more

Today is 9-9-09! I had my first exam at USC. I think it went well, but we will see when I get it back. I have been overloaded with assignments, a ton of reading, and studying over the past week. The instructors are loading it on for us to work on over semester break. :( Well even though I have had a lot to do, I manage to make the most of my time on the sunshine coast and met up with Milo and a few others to go to a house warming party after watching the Australia vs. South Africa rugby game last Saturday. The house warming party was for another Jessica and I met a few more Germans of course, but also was introduced to many French, Australian, and of course Milo is from ... read more

Hello! Hope you enjoy by blogs about my time down under :) I am hoping to update this at least once a week while I am here for the next four months! Make sure to comment and leave me lovely messages. So to start off the trip, my mom, grandma, and me spent an hour Wednesday morning doing last minute packing and weighing of my suitcases at the house. They were so much help and I got everything packed into two suitcases, both under the 50 lb. limit, success already! We left a little early, around 1 to get to chicago before my 6 p.m. flight. We stopped and picked up snacks along the way and did not even run into construction back-ups or any jams in the Chicago traffic, which was wonderful! Mom talked the ... read more

OK, so I thought it was about time that I put this up here. I was waiting for Sara to get back to me with the names of all the places & the stuff we did, but we all know that she's a slacker & busy with Uni, so will forgive her on this occasion, and just get these pictures up as this whole thing is weighing on my mind. Day 1 So anyway, in May 2009 Vaughan and I went to Australia to catch up with Sara (and Sarah) in Brisbane, and to see Vaughan's Mum (Marianne), and Step-Dad (Bill) in Maroochydoore, on the Sunshine Coast. We arrived in the morning on a nice sunny day, and made it into the city on the train from Brisbane Airport. We were staying in town, with Sara ... read more

Day 57 - Warwick to Coochin Creek We move out of Warwick today and head, somewhere else! When we woke up this morning neither of us had fully decided where we should go! Our quandary is that we have to be in Brisbane by Wednesday night to fly out to Melbourne on Thursday morning. That means we can’t head west from Warwick to go inland because we’d not get far enough for it to be significant ie we wouldn’t make the desert in two days and there’s not point heading too far north to say Noosa because we’d only have to turn turtle and come back, then do the same trip again when we return from the party! Decisions, decisions! We opt for a trip towards Esk and then beyond to a campsite at Somerset Dam. ... read more

The time has come for us to leave Mooloolaba and keep travelling. It's been a fun 3 months and we'll miss the friends we've made here but we've only got 2 months left in Australia and there's plenty to see. We've decided to rent a campervan in Brisbane and drive it up to Cairns then all the way down to Melbourne. First we'll spend a long weekend in Brisbane before hitting the road.... read more

We've settled in Mooloolaba for some time now. I am still doing night security and Jay has had a few promotions, from day cleaner to night cleaner and from that to receptionist. She now works 35 paid hours a week so we've been able to save up some cash. It's been nice to stay in one spot for awhile and form lasting friendships with the rest of the long-termers. We really love it here despite the usual annoyances that come with living in a busy hostel. So much has happened in the last few months that it all sort of blends together, but here are some of the highlights: -Jay and I celebrated Valentine's Day with a beach BBQ of steak and corn-on-the-cob. Imagine trying that back home! -A few of the guys here began a ... read more

Well, I am now in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, although so far, we have only seen about an hour of sun, tomorrow we are off to Fraser Island for three days and two nights of 4x4ing on the largest sand island of the world, it is going to be great! In the meantime, I will get you all up to date, when I last left you it was Sunday, April 5 and we were headed up to Phillip Island near Melbourne for the world famous penguin parade... After successfuly navigating us out of the Melbourne city centre we made our way towards Phillip Island, there were showers on and off in the area, and as a typical rainy day activity we stopped off at a winery to taste the local flavor. We ended up tasting ... read more
