I forgot to include St. Patty's Day festivities in the last blog! The Saturday previous to St. Patty's Day a group of 11 or so of us went to Sunshine Plaza (the BEAUTIFUL shopping center near me) and had dinner at the Pig and Whistle restaurant. They were offering a special--- if you buy an "Irish" meal and a pint of Guinness, you get a free T-shirt! We were all over that. The meal was very good too- I had steak and Guinness pie, steamed veggies, mashed potatoes. So good! After dinner we caught a bus back to the apartments, hung out on Rob's patio (he was lucky enough to get a first floor apartment with a huge patio that looks out toward to the University and the small lake that separates the apartments from the ... read more

Well, here we are with a month to go and my anxiety levels are at an all time high! The training is not as frequent as it should be as we have had 2 moves and some sick children, not to mention Trev being away so we are hoping for a quiet period to get completely geared to go. Somehow going for a hike at oxygen rich sea level seems like a cop out and we discuss the effects of high altitude and to what extent we are going to be affected constantly. We head to Brisbane next week for the last of our shopping then Trev is off on the 1 April with only 1 or 2 days at home before we go. He is flying to Kathmandu before me for business so i shall ... read more

So I have had multiple requests to put my pictures on a public website for non-facebook users to view. Finally my roommate Lizzie from LeMoyne (who is currently studying in Barcelona) tipped me off to this site! I am about a month into my journey and couldn't be happier. I have seen some pretty amazing things thus far, and really can't wait to see more. My first few days here were pretty tough. The jet lag was worse than I thought it was going to be. I departed LA at 11:50 pm on Friday February 13th (yikes!) and arrived at the Brisbane airport in Australia on Sunday February 15th around 7am. The flight wasn't too bad- however I only got a few hours of sleep in. The rest of the time was spent doing People Magazine ... read more

I just got back from a wonderful overnight trip to the Sunshine Coast with my roommates and what an adventure we had. We left on Friday around 5pm and arrived at our hostel around 9pm. We checked in at the bar because the reception area was closed and then we went to our room….oh man. This was the grossest thing any of us had ever stayed in, there were people in our room (because we booked a dorm room with 6 people when there were actually 7 beds) who scattered like cockroaches when we opened the door and there was a suspicious stain on one of the beds. We didn’t want to touch anything so we decided to have a drink and then head to the hostel bar. This bar was like a high school dance ... read more

Today Sabrina and I went to the Australia Zoo. The home of Steve Irwin! It was WONDERFUL. It is BY FAR the best zoo I have ever been to! We rode the train for two hours to the Sunshine coast and arrived just as it was opening, the day began hot and then ended up raining, which was fine with us because it was so damn hot. We got to see lots of reptiles, Asian otters, we fed elephants, watched turtle shows and croc shows, we got to pet koalas but best of all we got to hang out with kangaroos, it was so wonderfully awesome!!! I have LOTS of pictures that I will be posting. I can't believe all the stuff there is to do at this zoo. There was a "show" about nearly every ... read more

I arrived safely in Brisbane (pronounced Bris-bin) after a glorious flight with Quantas- I highly recommend the company to anyone in the mood to travel to Australia. The flight attendants could not have been friendlier, good choices for entertainment, AND because there were not many people on my flight- I had PLENTY of room! The trip to LA… was not so great, we were packed in like sardines and had an hour delay due to the wind and Delta sucking. Once in Brisbane, I had to wait an hour and a half for my shuttle- which was not very much fun. The weather was also not very much fun- it rained pretty much non-stop from the time I landed until Sunday. Australia = HOT and HUMID! On the outside, my apartment complex looks like beach houses- ... read more

After getting our cash for 2 weeks work on the farm, we were out of there and excited to be headed for the coast. Chris and Ferdy (aka Munich Boys) had the day off so we borrowed a car and all drove down to the Gold Coast. We stopped at a beach just south of Surfers Paradise for our first Australia beach experience and boy was it ever glorious! The sand was bright white and very fine and the waves were pretty big for such a nice summer day. Despite only being a half hour drive from the farm, the coast is a lot milder. It's about 5 degrees cooler during the day and in the evening there's a nice breeze that comes off the water. We stayed at the beach playing in the waves for ... read more

Well I had to put the location here as Coolum Beach beacuse Mount Coolum isn't on the list (did go to Coolum Beach once though!) and there will be a lot of photos from Mount Coolum although not much writing. We went to the top (it's not very high!) at sunrise and sunset and it was beauuuuuuutiful!... read more
