How YOU doin? - Interesting experiences on the Sunshine Coast that was not so sunny. Melissa, Bird, and I made the train but Maria and Leah got left behind because they took the elevator since stairs weren’t an option with their suitcases. I felt bad seeing their sad faces through the train window but I couldn’t really make the train stop. They had a pretty good time at McDonalds so I'm not too worried (lots of wine involved). We somehow made it to Dicky Beach campsite. We had a gigantic tent pitched that fit 10 people – it actually had rooms in it and 4 doors to get in! Uncle Hal could probably stand comfortably inside. We left our bags in the tent, hit up the beach, met up with Maria and Leah later on, then ... read more

All good things come to an end, so we are typing this up on a sunny Sunday afternoon in the Brisbane suburbs, with the sounds of a rock band filtering up from the village green a few blocks away. We really haven’t done much of note over the last two weeks; it’s pretty hard to keep describing the 20 something temperatures and the white sands. We’ve been playing tourist and winter refugees as we travel, so after 1770, we had stops at Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Coolum and now Brisbane. We’ve tasted overproof rum (high alcohol, low flavour), took a Hummer tour onto Fraser Island (NOT taking our Landcruiser there) went whale watching in Hervey Bay, (or were the whales people watching?) Eventually we arrived back at the Coolum Beach Campground, which was our no 1 in ... read more

The weather has fined up and we are now enjoying balmy days and mild nights. No rain for three days which has been wonderful. We have had a visit from a pelican who is trying to join the feeding line. Monday was a public holiday. Barbara and I did some housework and Rob and Graham played with some boy things in the garage, our car etc. The end result of this is we are now looking for a new boy toy. Something called a rattle gun and it has to be the specific brand which Robert has because it fits the very tight area around the wheel nuts of our car. In the afternoon we went off searching for a specific strawberry farm which also sells orchids. No success. There are fields of strawberries all around ... read more

We have been out and about all over the place in the last few days. On Thursday we went to the caravan and camping show in Brisbane. We did the park and ride thing and went via train from Zillmere into the city and changed trains to one which dropped us off at the showgrounds. We wandered about all over the place and my big purchase was a special cutter to go with my Fresheild. Graham got some towing mirrors (we discovered it doesn't matter if you don't need them, you have to have them by law) and an aerial for the caravan TV. Friday we had a quiet day though Robbie managed to get a bunnings fix in. Graham and Robert replaced the tow hitch on our vehicle because we discovered ours was too low. ... read more

We left home on Saturday morning after Chris finished all be obligations for Brinkworth Management Committee. First we found that the caravan was not properly balanced and we spent some time trying to correct that. Finally got on our way on a miserable overcast drizzly day all the way. Right up to the border of Sa fuel was 1.469 and we left filling up until we got to Broken Hill were it cost $1.559! Continued on and were planning to stay overnight at the stay at Little Topar Roadhouse, one look and we changed our mind. Went on a further 20+ kms to an overnight stay at Spring Gully. We took the very last space available. No one was intrusive at all. Headed off next morning after a freezing dawn and we had another overcast day ... read more

... read more

A couple of weeks ago I picked up a book based in India, from the library. The story was about an Irish alcoholic who meets a budhist monk while he's travelling the East drinking himself silly. The monk turns out to be his saving grace and after a bucket load more beers and much deep spiritual soul searching, the drunk dries himself out and joins the monk in the monastery. Ten years later, he's doing well..., up early... chanting and praying, eating rice, living lean and completely off the booze. One afternoon when he's out and about on monk business he meets an Australian photographer who is in India for a Memorial celebration. The monk's deeply buried passions are aroused and they fall in love. Travels and experiences of the wonders of India follow and then..., ... read more

Worked from home all day, then off to complete the last minute chores before I leave. Strapped Zimmy's bed to the roof racks, landed myself with an octopus strap welt... to the backside!!! Don't ask me how - I have no idea. Drove off to Sunshine Plaza very slowly, partly so the bed didn't fly off, and partly because the car behind me insisted on joining our conversation. I think about it now, and still find it incredible why the metal framed bed did not hit this impinging car when it flew off, but was grateful I didn't have an insurance claim on my hands prior to departure. Red-faced and red-bottomed (remember the occy strap), fumbling on the motorway, I somehow squeezed the bed into the boot, cursing becuase it actually fit and I didn't try ... read more
