hello travel world, well, we have eight months until we leave on our adventure over to Europe. the thought of having to wait 235 days until we can pack up our lives into two backpacks and board a plane to Dublin, Ireland makes me sad. I would like to leave yesterday if that's at all possible. such is life. I can't be too much of a downer considering we're going for an entire year and hopefully longer. in the meantime, we've planned Ireland, UK, Scotland & Wales. the rest of Europe will be done sporatically throughout our summer here. I know, we've started this travel blog eight months too early, but i'm getting antsy. besides, I can read about all the places I want to go to on this website. and if we go on any ... read more

I have finally arrived in Canada...yes I travelled for something like 30+ hours all in the same day April 28th. Leaving Perth at 00:25am (April 28) for the first flight to Melbourne was difficult as i'm a homebody and i'm leaving my fur babies for 3 months. In Melbourne I had a quick 3 hr layover before I jumped on the mother of all flights to LA. So time to stock up on magazines and well that was it. Did some downward facing dog in that airport and I was set. The flight to LA was suprisingly good. I rode in cattle class of the A380 although I was a little nervous considering all the engine problems in the past and the bad publicity about Quantas etc. So everytime we hit turbulance I thought I was ... read more

Thursday morning, still with Ian’s thoughts in my head, I wrote it down and tried to crash out. In the morning, I phoned my father-in-law. I posed Ian’s theory to him. Explained what was going on. He spoke for over an hour with me. He gave me his opinion on Ian’s theory and gave sound advice on dealing with salespeople at dealerships. Thanking him I contact Peace River, only to learn that my credit application efforts last night failed because someone this vary morning had purchased the Trail Team Edition. A sigh of relief fell over me. Another FJ gone, they were falling out everywhere. We ended up at Mayfield Toyota, Thursday night to test-drive a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 and a red 2008 FJ. Upon arrival we were given keys to the Tacoma. Taking off out ... read more

It's true... as they say, buying a new vehicle whether it has zero-kilometers/miles or thousands can be nerve wracking, make you stressss-OUT and even make you lose sleep. I know. You shouldn't let it get to you. But what if it meant the difference between getting the job you love or not having that job? That is exactly how all this started. I was offered a job in another small town about an hours drive from home. I accepted. Then declined. Nerves. "How could everything be working out this easily?" I thought. Its not the usual suspect with me. I'm use to working odd jobs while the job I'd prefer is still dangling out there in front of me with the usual labels: over-qualified, too much experience, not enough history. I've heard it all. I always ... read more

So I leave the day after tomorrow. This time skipping the UK all together and flying right into Paris. Amelie references will be made. So will lots more typos. And family friendly editing. Things that will not happen: -stolen wallets -stolen cameras -crazy Irish women who attack me on planes Things that will happen again: -International drinking with Jessi -Really cheesy things said by me in this blog -CB (that is non-family friendly reference for any of my friends who feel like reading into that) I leave the day after tomorrow and all I've packed is socks. Here we go friends... Europe Round Two. I'm calling it Thirty Days For Thirty... That's years... in case you forgot. Just like last time, I promise not to take the time to read entries over... ... read more

After the quaint little village of Jasper, it was off to Edmonton and North America's largest mall, over 800 stores with the largest indoor amusement park and the largest indoor waterpark with many tube slides. There are 3 new slides this summer and they feature an electronic launch system. Sliders step into a glass capsule and the floor drops from beneath them, sending them on their journey. Cyclone, the first waterslide of its kind in Canada offers both the unexpected drop plus a vertical loop. After the floor releases from beneath them, a slider plummets 17 meters straight down, as fast as 60 km/h, before arching upward into a near-vertical loop and blazing out into a splashdown lane. The two Sky Screamer Extreme slides both have the electronic launch system, but one of the slides is ... read more

It seems like it was a long time coming, but when we crossed the border into Alberta today, boy did it feel good. It was a great year in Quebec, but by this point we were all very excited to be home. Claude has been saying that he could smell home since we crossed into the prairies and today we finally made it home! It is funny but when you have been gone so long, it really seemed great to catch the first glimpse of Edmonton as we approached. We had left last year with our last dinner being with family at the Asian Village on the west end. Our favorite Indian restaurant. Claude had been craving their food since we left so we detoured on our way through Edmonton to have dinner there today before ... read more

It is my last day in Edmonton before I head out on a one month trip from Vancouver, cross the US, to Toronto. But before I leave the capital of Alberta, I will write one last blog about some of the many things that Edmonton has to offer. Edmonton is not a beautiful city. It is way too spread out and unless you have a car, living here would be a hell. However, in between the more or less disastrous skyscrapers and thousands of dog-trucks, Edmonton has a certain charm. Most of this comes from the people living here. As I have said before, people in Edmonton, Alberta and Canada seem so welcoming, chit-chatting and easy-going. Half the experience of Canada, I would argue would be in meeting the hospitality of the Canadians. But there are ... read more
