Hello all! So far I’ve been in Italy 11 days and I’ve been soaking up every minute of it. The pre-planning has actually paid off. I am overjoyed when I know exactly where I’m going to be putting down my bags. It is a bit heavier than I intended, and when you add about 15 more pounds of camera equipment over my shoulder, it’s not quite that easy to move around. But, we’re still movingggggggg. We started in Milan, arriving in the morning and spending the afternoon viewing the Last Supper and the famous gothic style Duomo. We climbed to the top and the city views were great. We found a park on the other side of a large castle, which reminded me of Golden Gate Park, with people playing sports and a drum circle ... read more

We left rainy and cold London yesterday to arrive here to beautiful HOT and sunny Croatia. We flew from Gatwick to Dubrovnik on British Airways. When we arrived in Dubrovnik we were pleasantly surprised how sunny and hot it was about 33C or 91F. We read in the Frommer’s guide to take a bus into the center of old town which we did. The Croatians use Kuna for their money and it is about 5 Kuna to the dollar so our money goes a long way. This is a nice change from London. We took a cab to our hotel, The hotel Neptune. The hotel is very modern and nice and a short bus ride to old town. Once we got settled we went to the old walled city. It is so beautiful with all ... read more

Well, we are back from our 4 day excursion! Mark always says you can tell if you've had a good vacation if you are tired and broke and we are both!!! We took the train to Munich. Our train went 157 km per hour. We arrived in time to see the Glockenspiel at noon. It is a big clock tower in the Marion Platz in the center of town. Unfortunately it was being repaired so we were unablt to hear the chimes. It does have a bunch of lifesize figurines that dance and move around so we had to be satisfied with that. We ate our lunch in Munich. (Couldn't bring myself to eat the schnitzel, brian although I wish I would have.) Then off to Dachau and the concentration camp. It was really horrible the ... read more

So this morning we had a guest speaker named Andy Golding, he is the director of photography at University of London Westminster. He was absolutely amazing. He was so enthusiastic and genuinely interested in us learning something about photography and life from his lecture. I would love to take a class from him, if it was a possibility I would definatly come here for a semester after I graduate and learn from him. The work we saw at the gallery yesterday was his students and the quality was so good. I could just go on about him forever. After class Meg, B-Town, Christina and I went down to the Park/Graveyard and took pictures for our projects. I think I am going to be focusing on the different food in London rather than couples because I ... read more

“Who’s Jim” is my usual response to “I’ve been to the gym” and now I am one of you!! What has happened, having never stepped in a gym I have JOINED one!!! Actually rather pleased as I can now go swimming lots, before work/at lunch/in the evenings! This not only will help me get fitter (my stomach is growing - perhaps all those entries about food give that away!) but it actually is making me feel better generally. More awake, less grumpy and refreshed. The sauna is also nice, helps me chill down whilst heating up after my swimming. The gym has a golf course that I can use (the 9 hole 3 par bit, and yes I do know what that means - well sort of!). It also has a steam room and hot tub. ... read more

My sleep was so-so at the hostel from about 6am-8am. The recycling truck came and was right by our window, so the loud sound of breaking glass crashed right next to my ear which was quite startling. From then on, it was on and off sleep until my alarm buzzed at 8. I went with Tani to breakfast which was free, and had two small rolls with nutella and one with a soft wedge of cheese. They also has Nescafe (a godsend when traveling) machine so I indulged in 2 cappucinos since I knew I wouldnt be eating until at least 5 or 6 pm that day. I laugh at the fact that I got so excited over instant coffee...what you enjoy when on the road! It was then time to check out and meander through ... read more
