A car trip that was suppose to take 7 hours ended up taking around 15 hours. There was intense flooding in the towns we were going through and it took us 5 hours to travel 30 miles, the weather was so bad. We left London around eight o' clock and got into Edinbugh, Scotland around one in the morning. It was a pretty tiring day and we could hardly walk when we got out of the car because we'd been sitting for so long. But once the rain cleared up, the scenery on the way was pretty and the apartment is a lot better then the one in London. There's water pressure in the shower, and there's internet! In London we had to pay to use the internet at the nearest Starbucks. So, this is ... read more

Another busy day at work... I like it that way. I didn't really do a whole lot of interesting stuff today... laminated, worked on putting together things for the Cloakroom for tomorrow's event, making cue cards for the host of the event, etc. etc. They kept me quite occupied! Oh and it was funny, I answered the phone earlier today and it was one of my coworkers calling... he immediately said "Why hello, Erin!" I was so surprised how he could already recognize my voice! Then after hanging up I realized that I am the only one in the office with an American accent. Woops! haha! Tomorrow I'll spend the whole day setting up for another event, so it will be a nice getaway from the office, and the events are more fun anyways!! Quite chilly ... read more

Sorry, yesterday wasn't the 26th, it was the 25th. Typo! Today we explored the Edinburgh Castle! It was awesome, and it's right beside our apartment, too. People can look through a window into me and Caroline's bedroom from it. It's kind of weird, actually. But it's not every day that you live beside a castle. Numbers tacked to the wall led us from one exhibit to the next and we carried around audio tapes that told us about each. We went through where they kept prisoners of war and took pictures from different places. There was a dog cemetery where the pets of the soldiers were buried. Look at the pictures. So we went to this seafood place for dinner tonight and my dad ordered this plate of assorted seafood with mussels, fish, shrimp, stuff ... read more

So REALLY.. how good-looking are the ppl in Switzerland? Bonuses of living in Switzerland: -it's a huge melting pot so you get ppl who speak French, German, and Italian.. or all (hot!) -ppl come from all over to visit and study here and most of them speak English -setting off the fire alarm means that fire-fighters and policemen will come (tall, blond, and handsome.. seriously, men are not the same as the US) -European men are extremely charming -European men have a cleaner look here.. you can't compare someone who is considered "hot" in the US with someone who is handsome here.. it's just 2 different categories -men and women both have piercing blue eyes (ice clear blue) and blond/e hair Random Facts about Swiss Life: -outlets have 10 random holes in them so you can ... read more

After leaving our boat crew in Split we jumped on the bus to Plitvice National Park. After 7 days of lying around and eating & not doing very much we were keen to get some hiking in and have a change of scenery. Plitvice is known for its beautiful waterfalls and can be done in a day trip but I'm very glad we stayed 3 nights. We arrived in Plitvice quite late in the evening and were pleased to find our hotel was in a beautiful location on the edge of the national park and had a large room, bathroom etc. It was very 70's though, and we wondered whether it was built in the 70's or designed in this way. I suspect the latter!! The next day we set out for a 3-4 hour ... read more

Er wollte gerne ... read more

I am so lucky to be able to travel off the beaten path. Today, though the usual mix of a little bit of sun, lots of heavy clouds and intermittent downpours my hosts, Horst and Waltraud Junglaus from Hamburg offered to drive us( my friend Val and I) to Travemunde and Lübeck. First, we stopped to see some of the ships ( mostly ferries) from Sweden and Finland unload their cargo of trucks. It was like watching Lucy and Ethel by the conveyor belt except these weren't chocolates rolling steadily downhill but truck after truck after truck. These trucks brings good into Germany and then they are transported all over Europe. It was fascinating to watch. We continued on the seaside resort town of Travemunde. There are great walking and biking trails that go on for ... read more

Tuesday was amazingly hot. Our landlord, Brian, later said it got to 116 degrees F (well, technically he said it got to like 47 degrees C and Uncle Dan converted it on his computer, but close enough). Unfortunately that was the morning that the power went out. No air conditioning in that weather is pretty miserable, so Uncle Dan went on a walk. Bird watching was a little impossible though because as he said, “the birds were sweating too”. When Aunt Mary finally got up, she called Brian and made sure the air would be back up soon, so we decided to head out and it was cooler when we got back. We went to Nafplion, about half an hour away. I loved it there. Uncle Dan and Aunt Mary even put up with shopping ... read more
