My friend Phydie, who now lives in Hamburg Germany, visited me in Oslo. I toured her around the city for three days and we had a great time. She arrived at October 26 in Oslo and I picked her up at the Central Station (she took a train from the airport). It was our first meeting since we only got to know each other from the internet and good thing there wasn't even any akwardness between us at all. I was just a bit worried that she will realize that i *cough* don't really look good in person as i do in the pictures I've posted on the internet. But I gotta do what I gotta do and just had to show up. LoL. Day 1 // October 27 2006 We left the house at around ... read more

My first trip was brilliant!! Norway is very expensive- so you have an idea its £10 for Burger King meal or £12 for subway- mental eh?? It even cost me a quid to go for a wee in city centre. What can I say about Norway- met three lovely girls from London(Ali, Amy and Donna) which was great and together (and with some South African girls- but thats a whole new story!) we saw the sites. Visited Viking Museum, Ski jump (with amazing views of Oslo), Viegeland Park( huge park with wicked statues, fortress. palace and the harbour alongside general wandering including seeing where they decide and present the Nobel Peace Prize. You know me- randomly ended up in Russian cafe with Russian TV, which was odd to say the least and also managed to find ... read more

Sept 27 2006 It was a cloudy day the first time I went to Frogner park. We took the t-bahn (Oslo subway) to Majorstua and from there we took the trikk and got off at the 2nd stop. Vigelands Park, the sculpture park of Oslo, is a part of the Frogner Park. You should really see this amazing park when you visit Oslo. There are hundreds of different sclupture depicting people in various human activities. At the main entrance of the park, there are large gates and small ones for pedestrians made out of iron and granite. Then there's the bridge where one of the scluptures you can find Sinnataggen (Little Angry Boy) . He is the one of the famous (if not the most) sculptures in the park. The other sights of the park includes ... read more

Well, Its been a busy few days. In our last day of Amsterdam we visited the museum of Hemp and its well known sister plant!... which was a let down. Theres nothing very interesting about it to be honest. They try and make it sound like a medical treatment for all sorts of things but its merely a pain relief i think. However it was kinda cool seeing the plants beeing grown in a room and the lengths people go to growing and preparing it. Met up with Carla, who we met in Lyon. She's from Argentina and is very cool. Unfortunately she replaced Martin who has left for home (missing girlfriend, money issue, etc). So with our new buddy we trekked to Copenhagen and stayed the night. Cheap hotel- our most luxuriest place so far. ... read more

Hello again, Ive found a slightly cheaper alternative to net cafe's in Norway and that's using the internet in Sweden! How much easier can it be than to travel accross the border to use the net? It's not THAT much cheaper, probably save like $5aud althogether but thats better than nothing I think. I survived my first 11 days in Norway and looking back I didnt spend half as much as suspected but that's because im not constantly forking out for sightseeing excursions or museums, one reason for that is that most had already closed for the season, so I didnt see any 'Whale Museums' in the North or 'Seal Bashing Halls of Fame, with hands on Simulation Fun' which I would have liked, well at least some 'learn about how it all works here in ... read more

After a good night sleep I finally got my energy back and I felt ready to finally see the city of Oslo. We took the trikk (which is what they call to their trams) and got off at Brugata. And then we (my aunt and I) went inside the mall called Oslo City and met up with her friend. I was first confused about 'Oslo City' but it wasn't long until I realized that Oslo City refers to the mall and not the city of Oslo itself. This mall is not hard to find and you can find it near the Oslo Central Station in Jernbanetorget. After having some coffee and drinks in Oslo City, me and my aunt left and walked to Karljohan which is the main street of Oslo. I really had no idea ... read more

After packing my stuff for several weeks until the very last minute before I leave for my flight to Oslo (from Manila via Amsterdam), the time finally came for me to hop on the plane and start the first of a series of my travels. I only had a couple hours of sleep the night before but that didn't help me sleep on the plane at all. For the whole thirteen hours of flight from Manila to Amsterdam I was awake though really sleepy. I watched three movies (I was gonna go for four but my eyes gave up on me) and spent the rest of my time on the plane watching the view outside. We flew over China, Russia and all the way from Eastern Europe to Amsterdam. I took lots of pictures of eveything ... read more

The Viking Museum - A must see…..as Scott says “It was Cool!”. Three actual Viking ships built in the 800’s were discovered in burial mounds in the Oslo area. The Oseberg and the Gokstad ships were almost fully preserved, while the Tune ship was badly deteriorated. The jewels and other valuables had been robbed centuries ago. All three ships were actually used but when prominent people died during that era, they were buried with a real ship and all the necessities to take them to the afterlife. The necessities consisted of everything they would have needed during a lifetime voyages such as food, clothing, horses, dogs, slaves, pots, camping gear, etc. There were sleds and a wagon on display that had very ornate carvings. The only surviving chair and full saddle from the Viking era were ... read more

Our overall impression of Oslo is favorable. It has the wonderful open air walking streets that almost every city we have been to has had. We love the patio dining as we people watch. Akershus Castle and Fortress - King Hakon had the castle built in 1300, in the 1600’s it was converted into a renaissance castle. During this time the city wall was also constructed creating the fortress, the city had burned and the king decided he wanted it to be rebuilt inside fortified walls. We were unable to view the inside of the castle but the grounds and outside of the buildings were phenomenal. The photos will not be able to give the magnitude of the depth and height of the walls. It contained a drawbridge but no moat. The buildings are now used ... read more

Well as some of you guys may already know I have started my first job here in Norway. I drive around outside of Oslo for 10 hours a day, collecting petrol prices. Just what I needed, a pretty relaxed job after RMIT. The toughest parts are that I have to wake up at 5am or be forced to listen to Norwegian radio in the car when Lars’s Ipod runs out of battery. I work part time. I only get paid the minimum wage, but what can I expect when I’m only really using my brain power to remain on the right side of the road and interpret the weird road signs. Things I have noticed since I have started working: Birds/Fugler: In Norway the term “bird brain” gives a new meaning. The birds here are either ... read more
