Just can't seem to go to bed. At least not while there's still good daylight - which is at least until midnight or 1am. Then it starts getting bright again around 3am... Oh, of course, yesterday was the solstice.... About 6 pm we leave (Christer driving Trine's Golf) and head for Hemsedal where we stay in the cabin after a good evening meal. There is snow on the tops but the ski slopes are now grass.... read more

After a dust-up with a snotty vaporetto driver, six of us get deposited at the airport. After a long delay we get to check in for SAS to Copenhagen - running now - only 45 minutes layover until our connection to Oslo. Even so we just make it, and the flight makes up lost time - arrive almost as scheduled then have an hour delay while we queue to find out which country Jo's back-pack might be in. Walk out and see one person - ZOE... SAS will deliver Jo's clothes tomorrow afternoon.... read more

Yep, 13 airports for the trip so far. This brings us to the end of our flights. From here it is overland and sea. Anyway since it was 3 countries ago that I last did an update I have a lot of stories to tell. After leaving Essaouira we headed to Marrakesh for a couple of days before returning to Spain. The medina in Marrakesh, although not as old worldy as Fes contained some amazing sights. Snake charmers, monkeys, acrobats, fortune tellers, kids boxing fights, story tellers, musicians, bellydancers....the list goes on. It was just awesome, although we did get sick of someone asking for money everyway we looked. At the Marrakesh airport our flight was delayed 2 hours and there were families fighting and crying and generally losing it everywhere. Morocco tested my patience, but ... read more

The Norwegian in front of us on the train to Trondheim has some sort of bacon paste in a tube that she's squeezing onto a cracker and it's about to make Kathleen vomit just thinking about it. Personally, I find it outrageously amusing, yuck!... read more

The day was started out with the purchase of banana mango yogurt and musli which I'm beginning to really get used to and love. We then hopped on a ferry and went cruising across the ocean to Byg Doy, a peninsula with Norway's biggest museums. It wsa a beautiful out today--sun and bright blue sky and the water was gorgeous! We also saw a lighthouse in the water which I really liked because I've never seen one in real life before. Once we got there, weate our yogurt on the dock then headed for the Folk Museum. It's located in the middle of a residential area and I liked walking through there because the houses were enormous and had amazing architecture. I'm really interested in real estate so I was curious as to how much ... read more

Today in Oslo we met up with Kathleen's 2nd cousin, Elise (pronounced Elisa) and her friend Hilde. That was so fun because they're both 19 and go to a prestigious school of dance, Bardar, here in Oslo. I enjoyed our meeting because they were fun and we became friends fast. We walked around the city and went to Peppe's pizza for dinner. It was great pizza, especially the crust which had cheese baked into it, yum. The combinations were a little strange though--beef, peppers, and pineapple on one of them and the other had canadian bacon, parsley, and red onions. We had a sour cream sauce that we poured on top which was a nice touch. I think we ordered too much pizza, but that made us feel less gluttonous when we overate because there ... read more

Yesterday Kathleen and I spent SO long at the grocery store trying to find bottled water! You'd think it would be a very straightforward mission, but it was not! All of the water is sparkling mineral water. ALL of it. Even the bottles that were labeled, "Natural Spring Water." (in Norwegian, ofcourse) had "HydroKarbonat HCO3" in them. We searched and searched, shaking every candidate to test for bubbles, but we only found one bottle we could put our trust in. So I made the purchase, for our final test. This particular choice was called, "Natural," no bubbles, no reported HCO3 in the ingredients, but when the seal was broken, the sound of fizzy bubbles shattered my hopes. No water! Now don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of sparkling water and normally, I would be happy ... read more

So I have just over 2 weeks left of work and I'm actually off sick right now so I thought it'd be a good time to set up my new travel diary for all those trips I still have ahead of me. Today I decided that I will do my little Euro road trip after all, the decision was something of a no brainer anyway after I discovered that the ferry home from Norway has jumped up from the £130 I paid on the way over here to £320 to get home... summer prices are a bitch. I'm actually really excited by the idea now though and I've already bought my lonely planet guide to Europe and requested anyone on facebook to join me if they dare!! I should get home for around the 17th ... read more

I can't believe how much stuff I packed into one day. They say you can do Oslo in 2 days, and I just made it. This was the second of my 2 non-consecutive Oslo days and I still had most of the chapter left. I set out early to what I thought was the City Hall for a tour (sounds odd but Rick Steve gave it 2 stars out of 3). Where I actually ended up was the Parliament building. I ran inside and looked around -- they were in session but there were like 5 people. Looked just like C-span. That kind of blew my timeline, but I wandered over towards the ferry to do the museum tour. On my way, I walked by the Akerhaus fortress -- a complex that used to house ... read more

No time to blog last night, so now I sit in my "new" hostel in Bergen, Norway. The day in Oslo was a fun, relaxing adventure. Even though we really got started at noon (after I finished my last blog), we got in a whole day's worth of activities. (It helps when the sun is up until 10 and it really never gets dark). We started off with a walk down Karl Johans Gate, a main street in the heart of Oslo. It runs from the main train station to the Royal Palace. (I have some great pics but unfortunately can't upload on this computer. :( The weather was BEAUTIFUL! Probably the best in Scandanavia so far! It was warm and sunny, but not too hot, and perfect in the shade. Our walk took us ... read more
