Hello Hello, OSLO-NORWAY 3/9/06-4/9/06 Having escaped the infamous troll encounters so far (the Aussie equivalent is the Drop Bears!) , we are on a mission into the wilds of Scandinavia. Crossing the SwedenNorwegian border yesterday, hassle free, we headed onto Oslo the capital. This is the first area we've hit that actually begins to look like what you would expect the Scandinavian country side to look like. Heaps and Heaps and Heaps of lakes . Soooo much water its unbelieveable and they are all those crystal clear glassy water that reflects the surrounding pine forest mountains. Stunning The air up here smells of the freshness of pine, a bit like home does with the eucalypt. Pine forrests surround our camp site. We are shacked up in a red wood chalet so typical of the area. And ... read more

Visited the Frogner park with the newfound local friend. It houses the Vigeland's sculptures created by the famous Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland himself. The centerpiece is the 14 meter high column, the Monolith, carved out from a single block of stone. Surrounding the park is numerous bronze, grandnite sculptures depiting various human activities and interactions between man and woman, man and children, or one gender itself in different actions: holding hands, running, thinking, dancing, ... Back to Oslo in the evening just in time for dinner. Stopped by the train station to reserve my seat for the trip to Bergen. By a chance in a zillion ones, I met a fellow countrymen who waited on me at the Norwegian railway office when I need to book my seat reservation for my train ride to Bergen in the next few days. We talked a bit and we said to meet back after he finished his shift for coffee. We clicked and I was so happy to find a company to talk to. What an extremely nice guy who made me feel so welcomed and I was so thankful to meet such a person to enhance my experience on this trip. I was so alone and down and so glad to have a ... read more

August 16, 2006 & August 18, 2006 I arrived in Oslo around noon on Wednesday. I kicked off my trip in Oslo with an $11 McDonald’s extra value meal. Oddly enough, it tasted pretty much the same as the $5 value meal I’m used to getting back in the states. Welcome to Scandinavia. Finally fed, I headed to my hotel, The Thon Astoria Hotel. I booked a single room, which you can see from the picture was extremely small. Given the cost of hotels throughout Oslo, I was satisfied with my “budget” hotel. The room was kept clean, and the staff at the hotel was extremely friendly. Unknown to me until I arrived, the hotel was definitely in a seedy part of the city. The travel book I brought along claimed the area was known as ... read more

I love it when God speaks so loudly to us it’s like He is sitting right there in the flesh again. Last night was one of those experiences. It was the final night of the JR Army and we had a celebration at the Jesus Church. We performed three songs from the concert for the congregation then different people gave testimonies and finally at the end Pastor Rouse (Lauren’s dad) shared a message for all of us. When he was speaking, it was almost as if every word he was saying, God had been saying to me the past few months and God was giving me the confirmation He knew I needed. I love moments like those because there is just too much going on for that to be considered a coincidence. His sermon revolved around ... read more

During the last few days in the Jesus House we continued to wash windows and said goodbye to more of our team. Dina left early because she is starting her studies on the 14th of August. Dora left early as well to start her studies. Before Dora left we surprised her to celebrate her birthday (which is at the end of August) and wish her farewell, along the dock at Aker Brygge. Jesus Revolution also rented a boat for everyone to enjoy a tour of the fjords. It was a really nice way to end a wonderful year with all you can eat shrimp. Down to 4 people on Team East... So sad... :( ... read more

Bad weather at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam and an oil leak from one of the airplane engines resulted in a different day than we had anticipated. We arrived at Oslo Gardermoen Airport 15.30. Nice and early for the 17.20 KL1148 flight to Amsterdam. Smooth check-in on one of the self service terminals, but once inside the international departures area we noticed there was a delay. Take-off was estimated at 18.00. We took our time in the tax-free shops buying a some cosmetics and looking at some electronic stuff. I think it would be handy to have a camera connector for my iPod in order to be able to download from camera or card reader directly on to the iPod. They did not have the item. Once inside the aircraft (a Boeing 737 named Marco Polo PH-BDU) ... read more

What do you bring on a trip to Kenya? We are going through the agony of deciding what to bring and what to leave. We don’t want to leave home with items we will need. At the same time we do not want to bring clothes and items that will never be used. We have nice summer weather in Oslo, Norway. Temperatures in Nairobi is supposedly somewhat lower. We will see. We are set to take the night flight with KLM from Amsterdam tomorrow, arriving in Nairobi early in the morning. Better get some good sleep now before the long flight. ... read more
