Today we had interviews and auditions for dance and singing. I signed up for the dance audition to stretch me. It sure did! I now have a newfound respect for dancers. It is so much harder than it looks. I thought I had rhythm but in the middle of learning the choreography, I just started laughing at myself in the mirror because I am far from being a dancer! It was fun and if by some strange reason I was chosen, I would love to try to become a dancer but I am not a natural dancer at all. During the interview, I was asked what I would like to do, my greatest strength and weakness, as well as my experiences. We should know by next week which team we will be in and then we ... read more

I ended up spending about 2.5 hrs at the police station but now I have a very colorful Norwegian work permit visa on my passport. One of the second year girls went with me so we were able to get to know each other better. We arrived back at the house in time for PT and then had a really awesome praise and worship time. Then we had lunch and had a teaching entitled “You are a soldier.” It was discussing what it means to be a part of the Jesus Revolution Army. The leader went into the background on the Salvation Army - it was really pretty cool. Then he went on to say as soldiers for Christ we must 1. live an unselfish lifestyle 2. don’t just wait around to find out what your ... read more

After our personal time with God we all tore down and packed up camp. Then we drove 10 minutes to another mountain for a 4 hour hike. This hike was shorter in duration but actually harder physical (although that could also be b/c I was very tired from lack of sleep and the hike from the previous day). We stayed with our groups on the way up because there were some pretty steep parts. Once we all made it to the top we had lunch and then were able to go down at our own pace. Some people practically ran down the mountain - I don’t know where they get their energy! I wasn’t with that group but ended up going mostly by my own because I started increasing my speed in order to get ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 23. Norway/Sweden June 2005 Oslo, Norway, and on into Sweden To the best of my knowledge, I have never seen a photograph of Oslo, so I had little by way of expectations when we arrived at the campsite overlooking the city, mid-morning. The E18 motorway runs straight into the City, through the tunnel under the centre and out the other side. Consequently, there is little traffic in the centre and it has a peaceful air, with wide streets and green parks everywhere. The pedestrianised main street, Carl Johans Gate, runs straight as an arrow about one and a half km from the railway station to the Palace, between smart shops, cafes and restaurants. Nothing like our chaotic Oxford Street! We left Smiley at the campsite and took the bus into town, planning ... read more

Motorhome News from Europe 22 Norway June 2005 From Norfolk to the outskirts of Oslo in a week. Yesterday, the last day of May, we ‘cast a final clout’, looked forward to a June, ‘bursting out all over’ and planned our departure from Norfolk for phase three of our motorhome tour of places that previous European holidays have failed to reach. Our unplanned return home in April offered us the chance to review our immediate options for our travels and, with just seven months before our departure for North America, our hearts and compass were finally set on Scandinavia. Fine English drizzle accompanied us for a leisurely 200 mile drive to get a quick glance at the puffins at Bempton Cliffs in East Yorkshire before leaving for far away places. A few puffins sheltered from the ... read more

Well, a year later here I am back in Norway. After last time, I really wanted to return, see more sights and of course see more A-Ha! So I headed back to Oslo - different hotel, different season, but same old me! June was so warm in Norway, leaving the rain back in London didn't bother me atall! Our hotel this time was in the town itself, next to some bars and a seven elven - I shall find one everywhere I go! We met Emma and Steve again, and agreed to meet up the next day for the Afternoon High concert at Ullevaal Stadion. - We decided to meet in the evening, skipping the suport acts and hold out for A-Ha only! We spent our first night in Oslo checking some old places before .. ... read more

So. We've finally made it Norway! We nearly missed our flight due to Heathrow being so so huge, we were at gate 1, and our gate was 53 .. *le siigh* Anyhoo .. Norway is so beautiful, although we were more hyped about seeing A-ha the next day we really didnt take many views in, but I soon learnt to USE the new camera I had brought. We met many a good people at the airport .. Brigitte, Karen, Mark, Steve and Emma, who helped us with our Norwegian and train to the hotel. London underground is easy compared to this! We spent the first evening exploring Oslo, trying not to forget where our hotel was, and visited Steve's hotel - the very posh 5 star directly in Oslo town, oohh! :D Anyhoo, we had pizza ... read more

Today in the hostel I woke up with the alarm of the man in the bunk below me. I think he was German, but at 7:30 in the morning, 6:30 Irish time, I didn't care where he was from. I lay awake trying to collect my thoughts. Ahead of me lay the promise of my first day in Norway and the daunting challenge of my first full day ever of solo traveling. I really had no idea what to expect. My first challenge was working the hostel shower. After thoroghly spraying my medicine bag and my clothes I enjoyed a surprisingly, bordering on painfully, hot shower. I then rolled down to the famed Norweigen breakfast where I picked myself up some juice, some ham and cheese, and some bread. I also picked myself up some cornflakes. ... read more

The guy has a theory. ”There are no fiords”. Even though the cruise ship gracefully sails up the fiord leading to Oslo, the Swedish guy is convinced. He tries to convince some American tourists to accept his statement. It’s all just a conspiracy. Maybe by the Norwegian government, in order to attract tourists. Maybe it’s just an illusion. Many of the passengers are spending the morning observing the fantastic sight. So does the guy with the theory. Yet he claims that this is not a fiord. It is something else. It could be anything else, but not a fiord. Nobody is buying his argument, although it is a very interesting one. Maybe by the time of his return trip home the young lad had sobered up and established new theories that are easier to support. ... read more
