Phydie and I
in front of the Oslo Sentralstasjon (Central Station) My friend Phydie, who now lives in Hamburg Germany, visited me in Oslo. I toured her around the city for three days and we had a great time. She arrived at October 26 in Oslo and I picked her up at the Central Station (she took a train from the airport). It was our first meeting since we only got to know each other from the internet and good thing there wasn't even any akwardness between us at all. I was just a bit worried that she will realize that i *cough* don't really look good in person as i do in the pictures I've posted on the internet. But I gotta do what I gotta do and just had to show up. LoL.
Day 1 // October 27 2006
We left the house at around noon already on this cold rainy day. It wasn't a good time to tour around at all but we don't really have a lot of time so we went anyway. We first went to Karljohan but we didn't walk all the way to the Royal Palace because it was almost freezing and it started to rain more. The one umbrella we
Aker Brygge
the port in Oslo.. it was cold and rainy brought wasn't even helping because the wind kept blowing to our face. Instead of having the umbrella above our heads, we held it in front of us and used it as a shield from the rain. I am an awful writer so please bear with my story telling. ^^
Halfway through Karljohan we went our way back and went inside the Oslo Central Station and then to Oslo City (mall). We went to some shops and looked around until we finally realized that staying there wouldn't do us anything good for we don't have enough money to go shopping, so we left. We went outside and took some pictures in front of the Central Station and then left for Aker Brygge.
In Aker Brygge, there are also some sculptures and huge stone figures (whatever you will call them) scattered in the area. And there's also the Akershus Festning (Fortress) but we didn't go there that day. Instead of going inside the hundred years old fortress we chose to hang out at McDonald's. It was cold and we couldn't stay out too long plus it was still raining a bit! ^^ But the view from inside Mcdo was nice
Holmenkollen
the ski jump (especially if it would be a nice sunny day!). We could still see the fortress from where we were sitting.
And then we walked some more until it started to get dark.
Day 2 // October 28 2006
It was an amazing day. All nice and sunny. We left at noon again (we really couldn't wake up early hehe) and took the trikk (tram) and then t-bahn (subway/train) to Holmenkollen. Holmenkollen is in a higher elevation (on the hills). I have been their before but we took a car and that time it was really foggy so I had no idea what panomaric view of Oslo i missed to see. Holmenkollen is just outside the city of Oslo but not very far. You will find a ski jump there that has been used in the 2nd oldest ski jump competition ever.
Since I thought that going there would be easy if only I would find that tall ski jump and walk our way there then there's gonna be no problem. I was wrong. We got off the Holmenkollen station and found no signs of the ski jump. It was hard to see from all
Holmenkollen
must-see in Oslo the trees so we walked around the area until I finally gave up and asked a school boy where the way to the ski jump is. We walked back to the station and finally found our way.
I'm telling you, the view is amazing from up there. The sky was clear, and the color of the aumtumn leaves is magnificent! Holmenkollen ski jump is another must-see when going to Oslo! There weren't more than 15 tourists when we got there so too bad only a few us saw the beautiful scenery.
There was a souvenir shop there and Phydie bought some postcards and keychains. We tried to go inside the museum but our wallets told us that we couldn't afford the entrance fee *sigh*. (You might be thinking now that I'm poor, eh? hehe)..
We left Holmenkollen and headed back to the city. Phydie asked me where the best place is to eat Norwegian delicacies but I really had no idea so I suggested eating something else. We ate pizza. LoL. Then Phydie wanted to eat outside the restaurant so we moved out. Not a very good idea since it was cold but we hanged on to
amazing view from Holmenkollen
if you really want to see the whole city of Oslo, go to Holmenkollen!! ^^ it. Phydie couldn't help but notice the two girls kissing from the next table. But it wasn't a big deal at all. The pizza got cold immediately and we weren't able to finish them all.
After eating, we walked to the Royal Palace which was just nearby the restaurant we ate at. The guards were marching again and I asked Phydie to take a video of me marching behind the guards while they have their back on me. I wanted to take a picture beside one of the guards but I was shy and really couldn't stop from laughing. I did get one picture with the guard but he was still marching so that wasn't a good shot.
We spent the rest of the afternoon until night time at the city center. I tried to buy a memory card for my camera but the store I went to only sells Memory Stick. My camera also uses memory stick aside from SD but I don't know why it wouldn't work on my camera. I had already bought the card but i changed it back and thankfully got a refund.
Anyway, we went clubbing that night but it didn't
go so well. We only had been there for an hour when we were all asked to leave the club. We were so clueless since it was still early for the club to close. We still waited outside to see if we could come back but the club didn't let us in anymore. What happened? Some stupid drunk guy at the next disco club smoked in the cr and have put on the smoke alarm. Some people thought (I couldn't say everyone since most of us were totally clueless) there was a fire and the fire department even came. Bummer. Hehe.
Day 3 // October 29 2006
We went to the Vigelands Park on the third day and last day of touring with Phydie. We took pictures and had fun poses with the sculptures. I loved all the fallen leaves scattered in the park since autumn is my favorite season of all.
It was already starting to get dark when we left and we took the trikk to the Akershus Fortress in Aker Brygge. We walked around the fortress at night and also finally had the urge to pose with a royal guard.
As
Akershus Festning
the Akershus Fortress at night we got back to the gate we entered we saw that it was already locked. It was my 2nd time there but I didn't know any other gates so I just thought to myself, "We're screwed".. Phydie said that she's close to crying but we still somehow had some hopes. We were thinking of maybe squeezing ourselves at the small opening at the bottom of the gate but that was too small for us. We also had some bad ideas of climbing over the walls but the worst idea for me was to spend the night there in the freezing cold. Thank goodnes we weren't so stupid to do any of those thing so we did what any normal people would do in times like this. We searched for other gates and it wasn't long until we saw some life forms. But those people, probably rich, were having some party and we didn't want to ask any of them. We finally saw a couple at the parking lot and they showed us the way out.
Phydie went back to Germany the next morning and we were both tired and slept almost the whole day after.
I really had
me and phydie
at the Akershus Fortress tons of fun! It's nice to be a tour guide (though not very helpful at some times) and at the same time exploring the city once again.
P.S. If you are able to see the date of our pictures here please ignore them. They are not correct because it shows August instead of October.. Blame it on Phydie's camera. It doesn't know how to put on the right date by itself. LoL.
