Our overall impression of Oslo is favorable. It has the wonderful open air walking streets that almost every city we have been to has had. We love the patio dining as we people watch.
Akershus Castle and Fortress - King Hakon had the castle built in 1300, in the 1600’s it was converted into a renaissance castle. During this time the city wall was also constructed creating the fortress, the city had burned and the king decided he wanted it to be rebuilt inside fortified walls. We were unable to view the inside of the castle but the grounds and outside of the buildings were phenomenal. The photos will not be able to give the magnitude of the depth and height of the walls. It contained a drawbridge but no moat. The buildings are now used for political offices and the armed military service.
