After our overnight flight poor Kevin had to adjust to driving stick on the opposite side of the road through downtown Dublin. Luckily he had some practice while we were in South Africa so after only one minor mishap we made it safely to our hotel. We decided to splurge for the beginning of our trip and stayed in the Westin at College Green which is directly across from Trinity college and pretty close to Temple Bar. After quickly checking in and ditching our bags we decided to start our trip with a tour on one of those double-decker hop-on/hop-off buses. Since we were only in Dublin for one day this proved to be an easy and quick way to see a lot of the city. Our favorite stop was the Guiness Factory. We also explored ... read more

so we arrived in dublin yesterday morning after a 12 hour bus trip. the bus was terrible! what a horrible idea. i'm not sure why we didn't check about flying, i suppose we just didn't think about it. our hostel is interesting. the room is tiny and there is only one bathroom for the entire floor of about 10 rooms. we are sharing a room with another girl and a guy. the girl is really nice and from australia. we have met so many people in the hostel thanks to a huge common room where the computers are. we haven't seen much yet because we were so tired when we got in yesterday. we walked around alot and all the sights seem to be in walking distance, which is awesome...we'll save some money on transportation in ... read more

Again another quick blog but in some more pics to put up. Don’t have much time to write heaps of info (which most of you will be pleased with) but I'll give a brief description. Monday I went and visited the place where my Great Grand Mother grew up in a small town called Howth on the coast of Ireland. There is still same family in that house, the MaKennas who have been in that one house for around 350 years now. It was great to actually spend the afternoon in the house and even got to have a roast lamb and cheesecake :) Myra MaKenna is the name of my Great Grand Mother her name and married Geoffrey Martin then I think moved to Aus from there. The MaKennas have been living in that ... read more

Travel Period: 14 - 16 Apr 2007 A short trip to Dublin. Me and a friend got on Ryanair fly from Stansted (London) to Dublin. Not too far, just an hour journey. The airport of Dublin, surprisingly, was quite small. We then took a bus to Dublin city bus station (40min). Isaacs Hostel is just next to it, quite handy. I have booked it beforehand, £13/night for a mix dorm bed. Issacs is definitely impressive compared to other guesthouses. Not only was it the biggest of its kind that I've ever seen, it also has the most comprehensive facilities (by the standards of a guesthouse). The only downside is probably it's too busy, too many people. It has 200+ beds and I would say more than half of the travellers are Spanish (at least Spanish speaking)! ... read more

Its as easy as ABC.. Thats right Another Bloody Castle! Once you seen one castle you seen em all! haha no not really, every castle is that little bit different and all have their own special features.. Not sure what Dublin Castles are though, this was a rather boring castle I must admit, very big as many people lived inside its walls at one time but yeh not much to see.. I've seen better castles! From Dublin Castle I went off the City Hall which houses an exhibition about the history of the city, this didnt thrill me either or maybe I just really wasnt in a "tourist" mood today.. After City Hall wondered down to the Museum of Archealogy and History.. and yes this bored me too! haha must have been the mood I was ... read more

Tourist trap, the only way I can do justice to describe the Guiness Storehouse, maybe if you had a huge interest in Guiness or something and the process of making it it would be good, but otherwise this would be something I would skip, even though it is an Irish Instution. You do receive a complimentary pint of Guiness, which is great if you can stomach the stuff, personally YUCK! Cant stand it hehe, the view however from the 7th floor is FANTASTIC, You can a 360 degree view of the city and its just sensational. Almost worth paying the entrance fee just for that, but does get extremely crowded.. Something that is equally a tourist trap but that I would actually recommend is the Kilmainham Gaol, this is the biggest unused gaol in the UK ... read more

Didnt work with me but he kept getting these 4 American ladies it was hilarious! have some photos of this tour which i will upload as soon as I can.. Definately something I would recommend doing though.. Then today I went on an all day tour to Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains, words cannot do justice to just how beautful this really was, have got photos, again will upload when possible, the scenary was ... read more

THURSDAY: We visited Ingersoll Rand (IR) this morning, whose Irish office focuses specifically on shared services/back-room office duties for all IR offices worldwide. Our speaker was good, and it was interesting to hear how they manage these services from one office across their diversified line of businesses - plus we got free hats!! (I think the hats are becoming the highlight of our trip!! Doesn't take much to get us excited, huh?) Next, we visited Cooley Distillery in Kilbeggan. Cooley is the only independent Irish-owned whiskey distillery in Ireland. They served us a soup & sandwich lunch then walked us through the original distillery and showed us how they used to make whiskey. The machinery was powered by a water wheel and steam engine. We discussed the history of the company and how whiskey is ... read more
