The flight from Manchester toIreland was scarily quick. by the time we'd sat down and read the paper, it was over! We took a taxi from the airport to the hotel and were scared that the taxi driver knew the hotel name straight away. We were staying at The Regency Airport Hotel, which is about half way between the airport and the town centre. Both were only a short bus ride away. After checking in, we spent the rest of the day lounging in the bar area and ate in the hotel restaurant. The restaurant wasn't very busy so the service was quick and there was an impressive choice of veggie food on the menu to keep me happy! :-) Afterwards we had a wander down the main road and came across a bar with a ... read more

My longest weekend away from Bilbao was this past weekend, where I spent 5 days in Ireland. I left after class on Thursday morning and met Ryan, who had been there the whole week for his spring break, in Dublin. We stayed with some of his distant relatives who were kind enough to house us and feed us and sit down with us for more afternoon teas than I've ever had before! My first full day in Ireland was Friday. We had an early start every day to see as much as possible. Today, we went took a train to the city center from where we stayed in Booterstown, and went walking from there. Our first stop was Dublin Castle, which we didn't have time to take a tour of, so we just admired the ... read more

Sunday started with a city tour around Dublin by a proper Irish guy, accent and all. We had a look at the Garden of Remembrance, General Post Office and Phoenix Park. He taught us about the Irish Flag: Orange = Protestants, Green = Ireland and White = peace between the two people - kinda cool; as well as Irish folk song about Molly Malone - Alive, Alive oh! We went to the Guinness Factory for a tour. They had spared no money on their displays! It felt like we were walking through an adventure park, not a factory. After looking at all the interactive displays, we made our way to the top of their tower to the ‘Gravity Bar’ to get out free pint of Guinness and 360º views over Dublin. We were surprised at the ... read more

St Paddy’s was yesterday as really feeling the effect of the night at the moment, well actually feeling the effects of the whole 5 days I've been here. I have found out it really is true, it is impossible to walk past an Irish pub and not feel the welcome feeling they give out. And with a pub every twenty meters or so can take a long time to get from a to b. The luck of the Irish has rubbed of on me the past few days I think as well been very lucky with the time I have been here! It started over in London when I was checking in for my flight over here to Dublin and for some reason they couldn't find my ticket on the screen so that was a disaster ... read more

ok, so we know we are pretty slack. but too much to see and soo little time. now everyone will have heaps to look at... anyways, the morning after St Pat's day was pretty quite. had a great sleep in, the went for a little hair of the dog at our local. then it was time for the guiness brewery. we walked, hungover and getting rained on, to the guiness storehouse. it really is just a brick building on the outside, then you walk inside and it is huge. we walked around and learnt how to make guiness and looked at all the old pictures and stuff on show. but then time for lunch, we sat in this huge room that overlooked dublin and had a meal of soup and yep, you guessed it, guiness ... read more

To DublinRachel Elizabeth We flew into Dublin late on Saturday. It was raining and the cold bit right through the hat to my ears. It didn't help that one of my two travelling companions was not in the best of moods due to the fact that the wine he had bought at a gift shop earlier that day in Leeds had broken in his luggage and soaked all his clothes. The stewardess on the ryanair had also been a bit pissy and had made sure for the ten minutes that I was not asleep that I knew she was unhappy. The hotel staff didn't seem overly aggiated though. That is, until my aforementioned travelling companion made his laundry problem their problem. I'm not sure how many dry cleaners they called and how many house keepers they ... read more

Ohhhh my goodness what a buzz to be in Ireland to celebrate St Patrick's Day. It has been a huge two weeks of work organising paddy's day tours for about 150 people, so it was great to kick back Saturday arvo and enjoy the festivities. The last week has consisted of camera crews and interviews with a TV program called a Life without Me, its where they send the boss away and see how thing travel while he is gone. It screens on air in may so that should be interesting to say the least...mum is going to be distraught when she sees I was not wearing a stitch of makeup and foot wear consisting of a pair of pluggers.....opps, sorry mum but the days of the suits and lipstick are over.... St Paddy’s day started ... read more

what a massive day in Ireland. there are so many people here! we are totally hung over and tired after our big one in temple bar, but we made it uo in time to head down to the parade. but, couldn't see a thing. all the streets are blocked off and no one is allowed through for any reason. so we did it like the locals and went to the pub to watch it on the big screen. the parade was huge and went for about 2 hours, there was floats about the vikings and the celts and irish dancers and everything. it really was fantastic to watch. then we went to a pub called The Arlington. this pub was massive! it was two levels and the bottom had irish music and dancers, while upstairs ... read more
