We got up early on Friday morning, and caught the bus down to Paddington Station. We grabbed a few supplies for the trip and found Beth plus the rest of our tour group, bumping into Klaus on the way (on a different tour). We started on our journey to Holyhead in Wales, picking up Nicola (friend from our Edinburgh trip) and some others. We only just caught the 2.15pm ferry sailing to Dublin Port, which if we had missed, we would have had to wait for the next sailing in the morning!. The boat trip took about 3.5 - 4 hours, which we spent eating, watching cricket and wandering around the large ship, and bumped into Klaus a few times. We arrived in Ireland without any passport control (!?), and drove into central Dublin to our ... read more

so we finally made it to Dublin. it's bloody freezing here. it's actually snowing on us. we went straight to the pub across the road from the hostel as soon as we got there. after the flight we so deserved it. so went in the pub and the first person we meet is a guy from melbourne, crazy! him and his girlfriend were their for St Pat's as well and it turns out that they actually work in the hostel that we are staying at in London. so we went out for drinks with them... next day we went for a little walk around to try and do some sight seeing. of course we got lost and ended up in the ghetto. we later found out that it is the oldest part of Dublin and ... read more

Steve (Flint) here- Finally, the day has come. We head to LAX very early, no screwing this up. We get our tickets, eat at Daily Gril, and have pint or two in the airport bar. The plane trip is excrutiating, humans aren't meant to sit for such a long period of time. Prescription sleeping pills would have been nice. The flight is otherwise unremarkable, and we arrive in one piece. We are in Ireland! This is so awesome, everything is going to be amazing...right? Ok, we have a small problem. We can't find our hotel, and nobody wants to help us. We ask a few folks, and they say, "go down this street and turn right." But they are lying! We eventually figure out that everyone hates George Bush and that "right" means "left." We now ... read more

So the second leg of the journey consisted of travelling to London and meeting up with Michelle. Since Lauren and I already spent a full weekend in London, we arranged it so that we would only be there for a day. We missed out on Westminster Abbey the 1st time around, so we did that Monday afternoon. It was so big, tons of dead famous people buried there. We saw the cornation chair, which we later learned more about in Scotland which was pretty cool. After the Abbey we went looking for Abbey road, where the famous beatles picture is taken. We found the road, but we weren't quite sure which intersection it was. We figured there would be some type of marker or shrine to the beatles there, but we didn't find either. After walking ... read more

Flight was delayed heading over. So we were stuck in bristol airport waiting for the incoming flight when a guy from boston started talking to us. What a weird freakin accent! Anyway got in about midnight and got a taxi straight to steffs. Bit o food, bit o smoke, bit o wine. grand job. Pottered into the city on saturday - down to keatings at the bottom of henry street near the Jervis centre. Night place, food pretty decent - upper class pub food. Fairly expensive, but then everything looks more expensive in euros. When will those animals accept the queens head? Afternoon, we just chilled around dublin. Popped into a few shops - pennys and dunnes mostly. The city is so manic even just on what should be a fairly quiet saturday. People must look ... read more

So first day in a 4 month tour... after a great send off in good old Perth, and a weekend in Edinburgh we finally began with a 4.30am start from Kev´s flat in the Boro and arrived in Dublin in the morning weary and gagging for a Guiness! Wandered around to find a pub, but Ally had to sleep...(awwww) and supose it was only about 11am! After headed off to see the Temple Bar, oldest Pub in Ireland (apparently, don´t hold me to that) As we didn´t have much time to see everything, agreed our obvious priority and headed off to St James´s Gate to see the how they make the fabulous black stuff! Good tour, and a panaromic pint at the top of the brewery... definately the finest place for a Guiness! Then back to ... read more

I’m tired of typing. Oh well, I’m pushing through the pain! We got up good and early on Friday and headed out to see Dublin, after checking out and storing our luggage for the day. That is one really nice thing about most hostels…they provided luggage storage for the day fro about 1 euro or so, which is definitely worth it. Lugging luggage all day is not much fun! So, we got a map, a recommendation of what we should try to see and set off. Now, Laura’s not great with directions and maps, so I was the navigator for this trip. But, luckily we found everything pretty easily. We went to Dublin Castle first. There they had a neat little gift shop, which Laura and I picked up little souvenirs in, to remember our ... read more

Laura and I were up and at breakfast right when it started at 8:00, after eating quickly we checked out and headed to the train station to find out about the train/ferry to Dublin. We found out there was a train leaving a different station at 9:10, if we got a cab we could just make it. So, we bought the tickets and took off for the London Euston Train Station. We made it with about five minutes to spare. So, we were on our way to Dublin. The train got into Holyhead, Wales at about 1:30 pm. We boarded the Ferry and were headed to Ireland at about 2:15. Arrival in Dublin was around 5:00pm. After checking into the Isaccs Hostel for 18euros each we headed out to see what we could do before ... read more

Question time! What is the one thing you would imagine that I would get confiscated from me at an airport? I'm sure that you are probably thinking right now that I got caught with a razor, fingernail clippers, some makeup, a water bottle maybe....Wrong! We arrived at the Granada Airport around 6:30 all packed and ready for our flight to London. So far on this trip, I had been 4 for 4 in getting through security without a problem. Today was a little different. We waited in line to get our tickets, then headed through security. I put everything on the conveyor and stepped through. Nothing..."5 for 5!" I thought to myself right before a nice Spanish lady asked if she could escort me somewhere private with my bag. Not a good sign...I asked her what ... read more

So . . . I think that by the time I leave this glorious island I'm going to be a master of the Dublin day trip. This weekend one of my best friends, Pulkit, came to visit me in Galway. Despite how obscenely well-traveled Pulkit is he had never been to Ireland, so I was excited to introduce him to the country. We spent most of our time poking around Galway, but Sunday we woke up mighty early to catch a bus to Dublin. I'm getting quite good at taking up twice my allotted amount of room and catching some sleep on these buses, so we managed to have a fair amount of energy upon arriving in Dublin. Of course, when we got off the bus it was raining (all the more Irish), so we ... read more
