Well, I’m in Dublin, Ireland now and a lot has happened since I last left you. I flew out on Monday from Edin-bra (people keep pronouncing Edinburgh different ways, so I like to switch it up myself) and I had a lay over in London before coming here. When I landed in London I followed the signs to “International Departures”… pretty logical considering the Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK. I get to the first checkpoint and this English man looks at my tickets and says, “Where are you heading?” I respond “Dublin”, and then he looks at me skeptically and says, “Where are you coming from?” I say “Edinburgh (pronouncing the ‘G’ at the end)”. He looks at me and says “Edin-BRE?” and I say “yes, Edin-bur-eh”. Well after he so kindly ... read more

So I was in Dublin on St. Paddy's Day. Was a cool time. Had a few pints in a pub with a friend from home and his friends whilst watching the big big big rugby match. Ireland won their match which was very good because it meant that everyone was in a good mood, but they lost overall. Either way, I'm sure the copious amounts of Guinness helped ;) Then I met up with one of my best friends, her boyfriend and another friend and we walked everywhere we possibly could and found tasty meals. Wandering and eating...the best type of vacation, really. We spent the afternoon at the Guinness plant which was really really interesting. There was a massive line up that day but it moved really quickly and once we were inside it ... read more

Tammy here- We're currently back in the car on our way back to Dublin. None of us can remember the name of the castle where they took the cover shot for the Unforgettable Fire so we'll be skipping that side trip and heading back into town. Steve here- We make one stop on the way, at Tyrrells Pass Castle Restaurant. Very good food, and also cool that we are eating in a building that used to be a castle...at least we think it used to be a castle. We get to Dublin safe and sound, check into the hotel and try to return the car to rental agency. Turns out that when I talked to the customer service person at Europcar on the phone earlier in the day and she told me that they closed ... read more

Before going to catch the plane home, we went to look around Croke Park. The hardest part was actually finding the entrance, we must have walked around each side of the park before working out how to get in - I hope its easier for the fans on match days! Again it wasn't a guided tour, so we spent the morning leisurely browsing the displays which included several visitors. for an extra fee you can take a guided tour which includes going out on to the pitch and into the players dressing rooms. The place is steeped in so much history, it's fascinating to read about and again if we had more time, i could have spent a few more hours wandering around the displays. Unfortunately, at this point, my camera's battery had died so i ... read more

One of the first things I spotted on the guide we were using was The Oscar Wilde house. after walking around we managed to find it, but was disappointed to see if was only a plaque on a house rather than an actually museum. So after admiring the plaque and the statue in the park opposite we went to have a look around the National Gallery. The exhibits here were very varied and i could have spent hours looking around it properly. We then had a couple of drinks in a lovely pub we found called the Hairy Lemon, which claims to cater to all sporting needs. However, when we asked if they showed England matches, the bar man almost died laughing. Then it was a look round the shops in the hope of finding ... read more

Wicklow and Glendelough Europe » Ireland » Dublin By Ames and PrudeyMarch 20th 2007Amy & Prue today we went outside of dublin and into the mountain areas of Wicklow and Glendelough. it was pretty amazing country. first we drove through to wicklow and the area where they filmed braveheart, we had lunch at this really cute restuarant in the mountain and then onto glendelough where we went to an old graveyard.# our tour guide was the funniest man ever and he loved the fact that we were auzzies and continued to rip us of all day, but don't you worry, we gave it back. now he wants us to contact him when we go back so he can drive us around! on... read more

The next day we set of to explore explore Dublin. We left the bus on O'Connell street and started our Irish adventure with a look around Carroll's gift shop - Rupert is still amazed at the amount of tat I buy, but at least I can claim to have a magnet to remember each holiday by and we needed some oven gloves anyway! We stopped for lunch at a pub on the side of the River Liffey. The smoking ban had already kicked in in Ireland, so we were amused to see how the different pubs had been adapted. In this one at the back of the pub there was a door which led downstairs to the toilets. The balcony had the roof removed and replaced with a fabric cover leaving room around the sides, ... read more
