Geo: 3.12433, 101.684Steve and I left Langkawi together and headed to Penang for a couple of days before venturing on to Kuala Lumpur. I managed to pick up another computer while I'm here, and get reports etc. confirming my last computer was flooded and irreparable for the insurance company which they asked for however it looks like they won't pay out for anything again, it's a losing battle and actually they owe me for all my hospital treatment too which they're trying to get out of... bah, rant over! I show Steve around Penang which he seems to enjoy but realistically I only give him pointers as I need to get cycling down to KL and I'm cutting it fine. The bike has a quick going over and repack and everything seems in order and I'm ... read more

Geo: 6.30052, 99.7207 I returned to Langkawi via speedboat from Koh Lipe in Thailand which was a great journey, we docked and crossed through Immigration which was a very low key affair as there were only four of us. I've had post it's over the back four pages of my passport now for months and months, trying to get Immigration stamps on other pages but actually my passport isn't going to last much longer!! After Immigration we're put in a minivan and taken to Cenang Patai which was extremely convenient, dropping us just on the main road at the Rainbow Lodge where I've stayed now a few times. I'm glad they have room and can accomodate us and I'm pleased to hear that my friend Robert and his other half Azar should be here in a ... read more

Geo: 6.4893, 99.3051 So after Danny left for India I planned on getting back to Malaysia although I had a few days left on my visa which I had to extend (yet again). I met up with Steve again who Danny and I spent a few days with before Chiang Mai, and we decided to travel south together for a few weeks on a mini adventure, I think Danny and I sold the whole Langkawi experience to him! Steve and I decided bizarrely enough to go from Bangkok to Langkawi via Koh Lipe... we booked an overnight bus to Satun and started finding our way out to the islands which then entailed a local bus for 30 km, a song hew out to the port, then a speed boat which stopped at various islands on the ... read more

Geo: 19.91, 99.83 It was lovely meeting Catherine and Janice again, it had been a while since I was last here and I was all broken from my motorbike accident, they're delighted to see me back to my old self as I really was a sight for sore eyes last time and, they're pleased to meet Danny. Janice has a meditation retreat near Chiang Rai and is planning to open up again soon for the start of the season although she is aware there's a lot of work to be done before she would be ready. Danny suggested us going to give her a hand for a few days and she was delighted by the idea and grateful for our support and company, so we arranged to leave the next day and get moving again. Geo: 18.8, 98.98 So from GU Bay, Danny and I made our way back to Bangkok and had fun hanging out in the Kho San Road area for a couple of days before heading onwards. Thankfully we've both done the scorpion/cricket eating stuff so we don't revisit that side of the Kho San, I enjoy seeing more new places in Bangkok which Danny knows better than I do and even though it is mayhem, it's so completely fascinating that it's hard not to love the madness. Surprising, I spotted a familiar figure and ran up to surprise my friend Steve who I last saw in Kathmandu over a year and a half ago... it's a small world. He comes to join Danny and I for a few beers and it's a fun night, it's nice that ... read more

Geo: 11.9909, 102.297 So new adventures await... Addy from Rainbow organises my trip to Bangkok starting with an uplift from Hostel to Kuah Ferry Terminal, a ferry to Satun in Thailand which only takes one hour and an overnight 15hr bus journey into Bangkok. Thankfully I managed to get some sleep and I didn't even mind the Chinese bloke resting his head on my shoulder when I woke up in the middle of the night!! I can't believe I've arrived back in Bangkok... this wasn't in my plans but neither was meeting Danny and Robert I suppose. Luckily I arrived in the same bus station for Koh Chang and managed to arrange a connection on arrival although it wasn't as straight forward as that! Everyone tries their scams and initially I had a tuk tuk driver ... read more

Geo: 5.45768, 100.293 Although I love Langkawi it was time to move on and get cycling again, Danny was heading to Thailand anyway and I was extremely grateful to him changing his trip down to Kuala Lumpur to make sure I arrived in Penang okay. My last trip to Penang was the worst ferry crossing I had ever experienced and I wasn't looking forward to it but with his support and some gentler weather I was relieved when I arrived safe and sound. I booked back into Rainbow2 before walking down with Danny to book his overnight bus and I have to admit I'm sad to see him go, we've become great friends and he is lovely company, but all good things and all that and we say our farewells for now, maybe we'll meet again. ... read more

Geo: 6.32, 99.85 Honestly I had only popped to the loo in Tammy's Bar Langkawi, on my return I was not only married but on my honeymoon with the lovely Danny Brown'... quick work there Mr Brown!! So, I had heard all about the sunset cruises which are expensive affairs, but while I was away Danny got talking to Jamie who turned out to be the owner of the Crystal Cruise Company and before I knew it he's passed over his telephone number and told us to give him a call him in the morning for a free 'Honeymoon Sunset Cruise'... Although mortified initially because we're obviously not on honeymoon, it was too good an opportunity to pass up, so after speaking to Danny I braved it and gave Jamie a call. It turns out the ... read more

Geo: 6.32, 99.85 I returned to Langkawi with Emma but once again the ferry crossing was terrible and although this time we were in the catamarang which I found much better, poor Emma was sick the whole way but she wasn't alone! The projectile vomit was all around and the smell... horrendous. Thankfully the closer we got to the island the sickness seemed to stop and I think everyone breathed a sigh of relief on our departure... On our return we checked into Cenang Rest House however they don't have rooms available our whole stay so we moved to the Rainbow Lodge which was far better option and worked out cheaper too. I'm really glad I returned with Emma, Langkawi is a beautiful place and I enjoyed all the people I met previously, I love the ... read more

Geo: 5.41123, 100.335 The ferry crossing from Langkawi was horrendous, it felt so unstable that everyone onboard was on edge. I met a lovely guy onboard that was my rock and really helped to calm me and although I'm not seasick I keep jumping out my skin, and was completely relieved getting off and back onto dry land! On arrival I found the Rainbow Hostel, checked in and went out exploring, it's does look a lovely place but George Town is just a big city! I did tour around the many Colonial buildings, mosques, churches, the floating mosque etc. and it is lovely so I spend a couple of days looking around. I did a lot of cycling here and was delighted one day to end up in an island road race which was fun. All ... read more
