Round the World in 46 days
a trip by Newlands
From: August 11th 2010
Until: September 26th 2010
After a Skype conversation with my sister on Christmas Day 2009 with the fantastic news that she and her husband were expecting their first baby in July 2010 - I decided there and then to head out to Christchurch in New Zealand to visit after baby was due. What a Christmas present!!!
So on my return to work in January, I started planning my visit, I had to submit a request in writing for an extended holiday and I managed to get 6.5 weeks leave to head out authorised, I was delighted.
After looking into flights, it turned out that I would be far cheaper
buying a round the world ticket, instead of a return to New Zealand, and after talking to my sis, decided to combine my visit with an extended holiday adventure. I decided to visit Thailand and Australia on the way to New Zealand and USA on the way home. So I started looking at maps, prices, areas etc. and decided on Bangkok, Cairns and Brisbane, Christchurch and Auckland then San Francisco.
My travel companion Raymie was fantastic at making arrangements, as he has a wealth of experience of traveling, and I was looking forward to his company on my first ever, round the world adventure. He made all the flight and hotel arrangements look so easy, and everything was in place in no time.
I sent on a handmade crocheted shawl which I made for the new baby and was delighted that it had arrived, meanwhile Amber Rose arrived safe and sound being born on 29 Jul, a healthy, beautiful baby girl that I couldn't wait to meet in only a few weeks time. This allowed a few weeks of family time and to adjust to their new arrival before the onset of visitors.
So let the adventures, and the meeting of a new family member, begin 😊
