Geo: -7.83075, 112.697I arrived in Medan and got a local bus out to my hostel in town which took around one hour, I've stayed here before so I know the owners and some others that are around. I contacted my friend Elly who has been looking after my bike in her home in Bukit Lawang and I'm pleased that she will be down in Medan in the morning so I do the return trip with her back to the jungle. The journey takes around 5 hours so it's great having some company along the way, I explained to her my change of plans and that I'm going to take the bike back over to Thailand and meet back up with Drew and Malmuirie. We have a great catch up along the way and it is nice to ... read more

Geo: 5.36904, 100.264As my visa is due to expire, this time I will go back to Sumatra. I've booked my flight and arranged to be in Penang around 5 days beforehand to get my Indonesian visa. Drew's visa expires the same day and his plan in to head into Thailand and try and get to Myanmar. After saying farewell's to friend's around Langkawi, Drew saw me down to the ferry terminal and I set off once again. On arrival in Penang I checked into my usual guest house and applied for for Indonesian visa next morning. I feel really sad now that I'm here, Sumatra isn't sitting well with me, it was the most dangerous roads that I had cycled plus I'm missing Drew. I've a few days to wait around for my visa and flight ... read more

Geo: 5.36904, 100.264Once in Kuah Drew got round to installing the day tank, losing power in the narrow channel in Telaga was pretty stressful to say the least. We keep on eye on the weather and finally start the journey out to Penang but first time round it wasn't meant to be. We didn't even get out past the islands in Langkawi before Drew made the decision to turn back, it was way to rough. My plan at this stage was to get my Indonesian visa sorted out in Penang and get back over to my bike in Sumatra before Christmas, but that didn't quite go as planned. Because of the weather I took the ferry over to Penang and didn't know if Drew would make it over or not. Unfortunately I ended up with a problem ... read more

Geo: 6.3663, 99.6838So after hanging out in Kuah we head off sailing once more, it was great catching up with everyone again, we've made some great friends. From Kuah we headed to Tengah Beach which is close to Pantai Cenang and hung out for a few days.Only problem with this anchor is you have all the para gliders and jet skis in the area, we end up waving at them from the boat but they don't cause us any problems thankfully, we seem to be far enough out their routes. There's nice resorts on this beach so Drew decided to set up his metal detector and hit the beach at night to have a scan about, you could be lucky and find all sorts of treasures. We wander up and down the beach, we set up ... read more

Geo: 6.32, 99.85At last we're out of the marina, Drew and I are high as kites, so much hard work completed, now it's time to get out exploring and actually use the boat the way we should. However I have to say after such a smooth entry to the marina, the exit was the complete opposite.Drew may not like this being in my blog but it's just my memories and stories of my traveling. All was set, everything stored away, the engine running beautifully, Tony and Neil came to give us a hand throwing the lines off the dock and there the trouble began! I got the lines in, we were in reverse, Drew put her into forward and... Nothing... We're still going back and I can tell you with a 47ft boat there's not a ... read more

Geo: 6.32, 99.85I do love life at the yacht club, we've made so many great friends here it truly is a home from home. After our coffee in the morning there are always jobs to do on Malmuirie which I love, she is such a beautiful boat.I thought I'd show you general photos of what we get up to from Drew doing a bit of diving to clean his prop or scrub the bottom, or look for lost items... we managed to spin off one of the winch handles once the new windless was set up! To sail folding and storing, some pictures of the inside of Malmuirie, some of the exterior and of the cutest dinghy ever! There are always boats coming and going from the marina and there are some fabulous boats here from ... read more

Geo: 6.32381, 99.8481This entry is really just photographs of one of my friends Jeff's boat being launched at the boat yard and a few boats around the yard in Langkawi. It's a fascinating process which I was pleased to be invited along to see, after a whole refurb which took a few years to do, the boat is now ready for the sea. Neil, Johno, John and I all went along to give Jeff a hand in the last preparation before we saw him and Johno off. After a slight problem with the engine once they were in, thankfully they managed away OK.Here's wishing you luck Jeff, you'll be glad to get back in the water!... read more

Geo: 8.01056, 98.8394Drew and I decided to head to Krabi for a few days to get away from working on the boat and for a bit of chill time, we've been hard at it so time for a break. From Langkawi we arrange the ferry and bus which saves us any hassle getting to the bus station when we arrive in Thailand. It's an easy enough journey although it takes a bit of time, once at Krabi we jump a tuktuk down to the town and manage to find a cheap room for the night. It wasn't an exciting night in Krabi, a quick bite to eat and a couple beers then back to the digs, but in the morning we went round a beautiful white temple in the town. We caught a local bus down ... read more

Geo: 6.29742, 99.6973Rebak Island is and off Pantai Cenang in Langkawi, this is the island where the sun sets behind and despite all my time in Langkawi I had never visited before.Drew and Tony were going over to one of the yacht chandlery's to see about an AIS system for their yachts as apparently Thailand is making this system compulsory, so I decided to join them. We caught a ferry from Cenang beach which only takes around 20 minutes to the island, and in fact was a lovely ride out passing jungle and beaches. The only reason I'm writing this entry is because of the guidelines printed out for the staff of the resort at their sign in desk which I found hilarious. We only saw these because as guests to the island, we are required to ... read more

Geo: 6.32649, 99.8432Ooo the gossip of it all... Boat on A dock seized by Customs...Everyone was talking about the drama that unfolded at the marina, one of the boats on A dock was swarmed by Customs officials who sped in on their inflatable rib to search the boat for alleged gun running. Neighbouring boats detailed the seize and search with the skipper 'Julius' (a regular at Charlie's Bar) being held at gunpoint while the boat was searched, police were also involved and another person on the boat who was also detained. The search lasted over an hour and neighbours talked about the drama and shouting involved until the guns were drawn and Julius was handcuffed. Although you'll never really know the in's and out's of what happened, Customs impounded the boat making the skipper take the boat ... read more
