Geo: 6.62, 100.07I caught the ferry from Kuah to Satun where Jamie and Julie came to pick me up, it's lovely going back to the shipyard to see them and Thea and see how she's looking. They very kindly let me stay on board in one of their cabins, the boat really is a home from home, full of character and really stunning. Jamie and Julie are extremely generous and kind to me, looking after me, making meals, sharing drinks and strangely enough it feels like visiting family. The work on the boat is going well but I know they are keen to get her launched again and get out of the shipyard. I love the buzz of the shipyard, watching the boats being hauled out, worked on and put in again, it's a real hive of activity ... read more

Geo: 6.32, 99.85Back to Langkawi once more...Drew, Tommy and I headed round to the Royal Langkawi Yacht Club on arrival but it's all changed, tey've been knocking down buildings since we left and our favorite 'Charlie's Bar' is rubble. The Club has created another small bar at the swimming pool and although not bad, it's just not the same. Many of our friends have all left but one or two are still around so we have a quick beer and a catch up before heading into town for a room. This ended up an interesting night at the Nga Goya Hotel and nearby lady boy bars... ha ha the 'girls' were all over Drew who was absolutely loving it (I think he was really keen) although I can't say the same for Tommy... We pretty much had ... read more

Geo: 8.03722, 98.8332After our return from Phang Nga Bay, Drew took Malmuirie back into the Yacht Maven marina... looks like his sailing is over for the monsoon season which is kicking in, and it makes it easier with three of us on board. We decided to head to Railey Beach for a few days which was beautiful as always, leaving the marina we got a lift out the main road and caught a local bus to Krabi followed by a songhew to Ao Nang. From Ao Nang we jumped on a long tail boat which takes us round to the bay as it's inaccessible by road.Drew, Tommy and I checked into a guest house on the east of the island and headed out to explore. As Drew and I have been here before we knew a few ... read more

Geo: 8.45, 98.53Finally...back out sailing. We've spent too long working on the boat, and it was great to finally be back out sailing and I mean properly sailing... no engine and the boys managed to get four of the sails up,the gib, fore sail, main and mizen, what a great experience. Our friend Tommy came to visit and was a great help to Drew on the boat, he has his own boat in Langkawi but it's getting repairs done so it's out of action for a while. We motored out of our anchorage at the Yacht Club and managed to get the sails up fairly soon after and headed down the channel and round to Phang Nga Bay which is just stunning, I mean incredibly stunning. The sailing was very relaxing with perfect conditions, a light wind of maybe ... read more

Geo: 9.98238, 98.5503What a great trip...I left Yacht Haven for the day and headed up to Ranong in Thailand before crossing into Myanmar (Burma), it was a bit of a trawl. Drive to Khao Lak, bus to Ranong, songtheaw to the pier, check out at Immigration and jumped on a long tail boat to over to Burma with 12 other Thai/Burmese passengers, and the same back... what an experience, it'll be it almost 16 hours!Drew kindly lent me his hired car for the day and although my plan way to drive to Ranong it looks like it would take around 5 hours to drive only 360km or thereabouts. So instead I took the car north of Phuket to Khao Lak and caught a bus to Ranong. Drew gave me loads of good info on where to ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515I never thought in a million years I would be living on a William Gardiner designed 47ft vagabond yacht, she is really stunning... traditional in style and looks like a wooden boat even though she's fiberglass. Built in Taiwan she has one previous owner who lived on her for years and is a real classic but does need a lot of work. There is always plenty to do from the basic living on board stuff, cleaning, polishing, varnishing, stocking etc. to all the main safety and seaworthy jobs and we've got our work cut out. Although it wasn't my intention to stay on the boat once my passport arrived I guess Drew and I were having way too much fun and there was always something to do and he's really appreciated my help, you ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515When Drew arrived in the marina poor Malmuirie was looking all a bit wrecked, he had 5 people on board for 10 days and the weather had taken it's toll. The rigging had taken a battering with the bow rod splitting which meant he had to take the foresail off altogether. A spreader had bust off the mizen mast and all the cap rails where just about threadbare, so once again we knuckled down and set about putting her back together.Caring for Malmuirie is a labour of love, we started off ordering a new rod made to be made up for the bow sprit but unfortunately it will take a number of days. Drew had a couple of workers on board to clean and polish all the stainless stanchions etc. which came up fab, ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515A friend from the Yacht Club was taking his boat from Phuket to Antwerp on a cargo ship, Sangtong and I ended up sailing to the ship with him to give him a hand with the ropes but I didn't realise what I was letting myself in for.We got on board at the marina, unfortunately Drew and Tony couldn't come as they had to sort out visas to remain in Thailand, so we wave them off and set off on 'Colonel' a stunning schooner and head south. The weather conditions were perfect but because Roel has packed all his boat up to be shipped there's no sailing involved but it's only a few hours journey to the ship anyway. On route there are lots of local fishermen in their long tail boats, they are scooping ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515It all started with a few pictures on Facebook of Yacht Haven Marina in Phuket with Malmuirie and my brother Tony's comment 'tempted' which started the ball rolling. I spoke to Drew about Tony coming out and he was delighted, absolutely no problem to stay on the boat and we would try and get out sailing. So I contacted Tony who had started looking at flights and trying to talk my young sister Diane into coming but with no cash or holidays left it looks like Tony is on his own. Within a couple of days he confirmed flight details and would arrive for 10 days in less than one weeks time... ha ha brilliant, I couldn't wait.I borrowed Roel's car and headed out to the airport to collect him, the flight was half an ... read more

Geo: 7.97501, 98.3515Yacht Haven is a beautiful marina situated in the north of Phuket, it's well protected with surrounding mainland and limestone islands and is close to Phang Nga bay which is stunning. The best thing about this marina is that they actually answer their radio... we get assistance coming in with someone showing us the berth and men at the dock to tie us off when we arrive, you never got that in Langkawi! Every dock has fire safety equipment, ladders to get back onto the dock and recycling bins, ahh it's the little things.A few friends from Langkawi are here too, Jim, Roel, Tony & Sangtong, John & Judy and it good catching up. They have chandelier shops, a local shop and coffee shop, the Haven rest bar, a gym and swimming pool, facilities and ... read more
