It was a beautiful drive from Launceston to Hobart in the Land Rover, it really does remind me a lot of Scotland. I love being able to pull up on the side of the road and get a proper meat pie... gosh the things you miss! Seeing the boats coming in at the end of the Sydney to Hobart race was thrilling, their joy and exhaustion written all over their faces on arrival followed by celebrations, it's definitely not a race for the faint hearted. We spent a few days in Hobart and joined in some of their celebrations which was fun, the harbour front in particular I did enjoy and the markets were good fun, all the food and drinks available were mouth watering after living in Asia for so long. We travelled back up ... read more

We flew out to Tasmania to spend Christmas and New year with Ashok the owner of the Windrose and his family in Launceston. His home is beautiful and I loved meeting all his family and his parents, plus in laws. They own the Iron Pot Bay vineyard in the Taymar Valley which his wife Julieanne runs which is stunning, fabulous location and interesting to see the process they go through to make their wine. We had a great time exploring the area in Ashok's Land Rover which is brand new although old style and the classic racing green. Christmas Celebrations was good fun with Julieanne's family and the BBQ was a very different experience for Christmas, but we're in Oz now so you go with the flow. Scott and I did our fair share of cooking ... read more

Geo: 8.1605, 98.3382I was looking forward to a few days off to spend time with Scott in Phuket for a friends wedding. Steve was to be married on board Sailing Vessel Dallinghoo which is based in Yacht Haven Marina and I was looking forward to seeing some old friends from here too. On arrival we all met up in the Proud Hotel at Nai Yang Beach and would have a bit of a bux/hen party before the wedding. Here's to a few days of fun! On checking into the hotel there was something missing... erm... doors on the toilet/bathroom area... although he tried, Scott wasn't happy with this and we ended up changing rooms to a much fancier suite!!We gathered in the evening and went down to Patong for dinner and drinks with the plan to meet ... read more

Geo: 6.65494, 99.978Finally, our shipment from the UK has arrived. The container is sealed on leaving the UK, and cannot be opened until customs are here to check the integrity of the seal and open. Paperwork must be completed and checked and customs allowed to see what is being unloaded. All the boys are excited, something new and are all keen to help.We go through all the procedures and unload what we can until we need to call a local fork lift guy to come to the yard to help with the rest. Pallets of anchor chain, batteries to name but a few, extremely heavy and awkward stuff. The guys keep working away unloading while Scott and I check off goods and what's being delivered, but the customs guys wander off... anything could have came off while ... read more

Geo: 55.8656, -4.25722And boy is it a quick week!! Now the word has got out that I'm home, it's great to get in touch with other friends too for a quick meet up!As Dad is just ready to hand over the keys to our family home, it also means that it is perfect timing that I am home to say my farewells to the place we all grew up, shared many many wonderful happy times but also saw sad times. I wandered around each empty room, randomly touching things, randomly remembering all sorts of fun and mischief, ah those growing up days! I cut the grass, talked to some neighbours plus I also met the new owner who is due to move in next week, he was with his mum and dad who stay nearby and ... read more
