In Thailand every year they have a water festival called Sonkran. This involves huge buckets filled with ice water being thrown at every passer by... this year I experienced it in both Satun and then Chang Mai. Ha ha the pictures say it all!... read more

Geo: 6.32381, 99.8481You've got to luv'it! Since Royal Langkawi Yacht Club has had a make-over it now attracts all sorts of events and this weekend was no different. A young couple getting married with all their friends and family gathered. All the round tables were set up down by the pool area, white table linen and name places all set up, pale blue balloons tied to decorations and ribbons on the chairs, it felt young and modern and so were the clientele. The young couple got married at sea out on one of the boats with their closest family, best men and bridesmaids and it was lovely seeing the set up and the couple arriving back at the club. Here's a few pictures of the event, it's certainly a different way of life out here in the hot ... read more

Geo: 5.41833, 100.32Instead of coming to Malaysia for 3 months, the Cowie's ended up with 6 weeks to spend, although we don't quite know how that happened ! Anyway that gives them limited time to visit places of interest but I'm delighted they've arrived. They started out in KL, visiting many sites and staying in an Air BNB apartment which looked fab, visiting Batu Caves, Petronas Towers, Mosques, Chinatown and lots more before heading to Melacca. I really like Melacca and had great times there with friends although I stayed too long really!Once again, they visited the main sights Sultan's Palace, cruising the canal, Jongklar St before heading to Singapore which they thought was sensational, the Marine Bay Sands area, Chinese New Year celebrations, before heading to Penang, which is the closest place to where I am ... read more

Aww... what a lovely time I had in Melbourne. I wanted to come and visit my friends Jamie and Julie who live in Point Lonsdale but while I am here I also managed to meet up with my young cousin Jacqueline and her family, my friend from travelling in Vietnam Michelle and a friend from Langkawi, Dean. It was fabulous catching up with so many friends, I can't believe the friends you meet while on the road and the amount that you stay in touch with, it really is extraordinery, and touching the people go out their way to come and see you... The scenery in point lonsdale is stunning, and further up the coast, we're staying with Jamie and Julie and they are just such fun that I enjoy every second and enjoy meeting all ... read more

It was a beautiful drive from Launceston to Hobart in the Land Rover, it really does remind me a lot of Scotland. I love being able to pull up on the side of the road and get a proper meat pie... gosh the things you miss! Seeing the boats coming in at the end of the Sydney to Hobart race was thrilling, their joy and exhaustion written all over their faces on arrival followed by celebrations, it's definitely not a race for the faint hearted. We spent a few days in Hobart and joined in some of their celebrations which was fun, the harbour front in particular I did enjoy and the markets were good fun, all the food and drinks available were mouth watering after living in Asia for so long. We travelled back up ... read more

We flew out to Tasmania to spend Christmas and New year with Ashok the owner of the Windrose and his family in Launceston. His home is beautiful and I loved meeting all his family and his parents, plus in laws. They own the Iron Pot Bay vineyard in the Taymar Valley which his wife Julieanne runs which is stunning, fabulous location and interesting to see the process they go through to make their wine. We had a great time exploring the area in Ashok's Land Rover which is brand new although old style and the classic racing green. Christmas Celebrations was good fun with Julieanne's family and the BBQ was a very different experience for Christmas, but we're in Oz now so you go with the flow. Scott and I did our fair share of cooking ... read more
